“Today, an American security delegation arrived quickly in Amman, and from the military airport immediately met with Prince Hussein II, the Viceroy, and discussed with him the peaceful transition or other matters, after it was categorically confirmed the death of King Abdullah II.”

This has been confirmed to me. Also that it signals the end of the Hashemite Kingdom.

As he approaches the age his father and grandfather passed away, King Abdullah II of Jordan is preparing his son, Hussein, to take his place. The problem is that if nothing changes, his son will receive a country in profound crisis.

King Abdullah of Jordan, 60, is all too familiar with his predecessors’ gloomy medical history. His father passed at the age of 63 after a struggle with cancer. His grandfather, Talal, also died when he was 63 after being overthrown and exiled, in addition to mental health issues with which he struggled.

Health problems have also befallen Abdullah, who flew to Germany on April 10 for spine surgery due to a herniated disc.

Matthew Continetti, writing in Commentary, credits leading neoconservatives, such as Irving Kristol and his son Bill Kristol, with “modernizing” conservatism so that the Republican Party — which neoconservatives reluctantly joined after they lost influence with the Democrat party — could suitably govern a modern democracy.  And he laments the fact that since the rise of the Tea Party movement, neoconservatives have gradually lost influence with a populist-nationalist Republican Party.  Leading neoconservatives like Bill Kristol and Jonah Goldberg (then at National Review) publicly opposed Donald Trump in 2016 and 2020.  As a result, neoconservatism is now a movement without a political party.

Moscow on Friday lashed out at Foreign Minister Yair Lapid over a week after Israel joined with other countries to suspend Russia from the UN Human Rights Council over its invasion of Ukraine.

A Russian Foreign Ministry statement accused Lapid of an “anti-Russian attack” with his comments after the General Assembly vote last week, which marked only the second time a country has been stripped of its membership rights on the council.

Politically, in a highly consequential congressional election year, a confrontation with the current administration is bound to be used by the Republicans to denounce the Biden administration – and would drag Israel once again into the American political vortex.

It would also rule out the diplomatic option and could trigger US military involvement. Such involvement could undermine the special relationship, rooted in an understanding that Israel does not need American troops to fight on its behalf. This could also feed anti-Israel voices on the far-left.

To me, neither of these caveats have merit. The days of bipartianship are over and Israel is not asking the US to do it for them.

In practice, this means a transition from a defensive strategy based on the “Iron Dome approach” to an offensive approach that places an “iron wall”¹ against Iran’s ambitions.

Russia’s invasion of Ukraine poses one of the biggest challenges to the post-World War II order, and it could portend further problems ahead if the conflict is protracted, as General Mark Milley recently warned.

Shortly after the invasion began, the United States and its NATO allies invoked sanctions against Russia that a VOX CEPR report called “the most powerful and costly punishments imposed on a major economy at least since the Cold War.” The actions included freezing Russia’s foreign exchange reserves that resulted in an initial plunge of the ruble. They forced Russia to impose capital controls, hike the central bank’s policy rate to 20 percent and close the stock market while Russia’s sovereign credit rating was lowered to junk status.

T. Belman. Survivors in Mariupol accused the Ukrainian army (Ukrops) of systematically bombing the houses and shooting at civilians.  In my opinion, this accords with logic. The Ukraine soldiers knew that Russia would take over the city and they wanted to lay waste to it before they did. Like a scorched earth policy. In addition they could blame Russia for all the destruction and the deaths..

Making fun of a black woman a week after we saw Ketanji Brown Jackson’s ambush” proves that “racism always finds a way,” wrote columnist Jeneé Osterheldt.

WASHINGTON — The Biden administration wants the Palestinian Authority to be included in regional cooperation schemes being developed between Israel and several of its Arab neighbors, Middle Eastern diplomats have told The Times of Israel.

The goal has been vocalized by senior US officials publicly since US President Joe Biden took office, but last month’s Negev Summit provided Washington with an opportunity to take practical steps toward that end. Palestinians, however, insist that any effort to integrate them be decoupled from the Abraham Accords, which formed the basis of the agreements.

Clashes broke out on the Temple Mount early Friday morning, after hundreds of Arab rioters armed with rocks barricaded themselves inside the Al-Aqsa Mosque.

Police said that dozens of young people, some of them masked, started a procession in the Temple Mount area, with Hamas and Palestinian Authority flags. The suspects began collecting rocks and planks with the intention of disturbing the order.

T. Belman. I agree that the US should bomb Iran, the sooner the better. But I don’t agree with much else. I argue that Russia should be integrated into Europe to make certain that it doesn’t become an ally of China. The US should also side with Israel and the Gulf states to form a ME NATO’

The US should also end the Mullah regime and return Iran to its pro-western stance.

After the Afghanistan and Ukraine debacles, the West must show strength to save the world.
