GoFundMe says it won’t be giving the C$10 million ($8 million USD) raised to support the truckers protesting COVID-19 mandates to the organizers anymore, saying it will instead work with the organizers to send the funds to “established charities verified by GoFundMe.”

“To ensure GoFundMe remains a trusted platform, we work with local authorities to ensure we have a detailed, factual understanding of events taking place on the ground,” the fundraising platform said in a statement on Feb. 4.

T. Belman. I decided to post this article because Melanie covers the subject broadly where my comments just focused on Whoopi saying “not a race”. Her arguments are always worth reading carefully.  She wrote “The signature characteristic of German Nazism was that it set out to exterminate Jews as a race, identifying them as targets for annihilation on the basis of even a tenuous ancestral connection with Judaism.”  Hitler defined you as a Jew if at a minimum one of your grandparents was Jewish.  Calling that “a tenuous connection with Judaism” is odd.

She also made the case that the message of the Holocaust was being universalized as I did.

Dennis Prager took a different tack and said the Whoopi was right, the Jews were not a race. He also cited the Torah in support.

(JNS) Whoopi Goldberg has got herself into a terrible mess. She was suspended from her role as co-host of ABC’s “The View” talk show after saying that the Holocaust wasn’t about race. It was instead, she said, about “man’s inhumanity to man” involving “white people doing it to white people.”

She insisted: “It’s about how people treat each other. It’s a problem. It doesn’t matter if you’re black or white, Jews … everybody eats each other.”

Ben & Jerry’s is circling the drain due to its decision to join the anti-Israel Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement. VINnews reports that Ben & Jerry’s parent Unilever has lost $26 billion in value (down more than 20%, it seems to have recovered a bit since then) and has laid off 1500 workers partly due to backlash, including invocation of state anti-boycott laws, against Ben & Jerry’s.

BDS supporters believe prices must be paid by everybody but themselves, for the Cause. They will fight to the last Unilever stockholder, the last Unilever employee, the last Ben & Jerry’s franchisee, the last tax-exempt professional organization such as the American Studies Association, and the last tax-exempt union to harm Israel and therefore, by necessity, advance the cause of Hamas.

Britain joins US and Germany in denouncing findings of British organization that accused Israel of internationally oppressing Palestinians

The United Kingdom on Thursday rejected an Amnesty International report accusing Israel of apartheid.

“We do not agree with the use of this terminology,” a spokesperson for the UK’s Foreign and Commonwealth Development Office told The Times of Israel.

“Any judgment on whether serious crimes under international law have occurred is a matter for judicial decision, rather than for governments or non-judicial bodies,” they said.

Did Nouripoor, born in Tehran in 1975, say that he was part of the German-Palestinian Society (DPG) which openly supported the boycott of Israel? The Biden administration expects a restored nuclear deal would leave Iran capable of amassing enough nuclear fuel for a bomb in significantly less than a year, a shorter time frame than the one that underpinned the 2015 agreement, U.S. officials familiar with the matter said.

Administration officials concluded late last year that Iran’s nuclear program had advanced too far to re-create the roughly 12-month so-called breakout period of the 2015 pact, the U.S. officials said.

The new laser defense system is no answer to the threats posed by Hezbollah, and is a delayed response to Hamas.

Those who read carefully Prime Minister Naftali Bennett’s speech about a new laser defense system will realize that less was promised than some of the loud headlines the speech produced.

Besides the positive value of trying to attract additional investment into these systems, much of the headlines to the speech was a bluff because lasers are not predicted to provide real defense against Hezbollah and Hamas for several years, more than the one or two years that were tossed around.

The crisis on the Russian-Ukrainian border has been a surreal spectacle for some weeks. This is not how invasions occur and wars begin. The potential aggressor does not mass large forces on the border of a possible target country before full international view and issue continuous statements to the international media about its intentions. And the senior military officials of great powers do not—as Chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff General Mark Milley ( leading man of the Afghan debacle) and some of his colleagues have done—publicly speculate on the psychology and likely intentions of the leader of the country implicitly threatening to start a war. Whatever Milley’s talents may be, there is no reason to believe that mind-reading is among them. It is, in any case, not part of his brief to give regular bulletins on what he thinks Russian President Vladimir Putin’s intentions may be.

No, Amnesty International. Israel is not practicing apartheid against the Palestinians — not, as ridiculously alleged in Amnesty’s malicious new report, in Israel itself, not in Hamas-run Gaza, and not in the profoundly troubling reality of the West Bank either. (The report also accuses Israel of enforcing apartheid “outside” these territories as well; words fail.)

In fact, Israel’s own Arab minority — a little over a fifth of the population — enjoys full rights in the Middle East’s only democracy, including equality before the law, equal political representation, free press and freedom of speech.

I still follow the rabbi of the largest (Reform) synagogue in the small California city where I lived before returning to Israel some 8 years ago. Yesterday, I saw that he wrote on his Facebook page that he and his institution, and I presume others of good will, “stand together,” against racial, religious, and anti-LGBTQ+ hatred, and “against all those who seek to divide us…all those who make people into ‘others.’”

He wrote this in response to a news report that several historically black colleges had received bomb threats for the past two days.

T. Belman. As Alex rightly points out the Holocaust was an attack against a people, the Jews. Hitler tried to label us a race.  But “a people” is not synonymous with “a race.”

Whoopi tried to make the case that the Holocaust was ‘not about race”.  In a very narrow sense it wasn’t about race.  It was an attempt to exterminate the Jewish people, not a race. But it was about race insofar as the Nazis thought of the Jews as a race.. Whoopi made the point that the Jews were not a race. i.e they couldn’t be identified by their physical characteristics e.g. the colour of their skin.

As a result of the Holocaust, genocide became a unique international crime “Genocide is an internationally recognized crime where acts are committed with the intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnic, racial, or religious group.“

Thus genocide is an attempt to kill a group be it distinguished by national, ethnic, racial or religious characteristics.

So Whoopi begged the issue. The Holocaust was about the killing of a group (extermination) rather than a race.

While I am at it, I would be remiss if I didn’t decry the Left, of which Whoopi and the Jewish establishment are  certainly a part, because it tries to universalize the Holocaust into an attempt to exterminate any group. While the left is right to see a genocide in this light, it is wrong to see the Holocaust as merely a genocide.

The Holocaust was an attempt to kill the Jews,  It should not be construed as a Genocide although it was that too. Holocaust museums also fall into this trap and universalize their message against any and all genocides. This is a betrayal against all the Jews who were killed, not because they were members of a group but because they were Jews.

The unconstrained, ideological drive to murder every Jew distinguishes the Holocaust from prior and later ethnocide and mass murder.

Art II of the Convention : “the term “the crime of apartheid”, which shall include similar policies and practices of racial segregation and discrimination as practised in southern Africa, shall apply to the following inhuman acts committed for the purpose of establishing and maintaining domination by one racial group of persons over any other racial group of persons and systematically oppressing them: “

Fifty percent of Jewish Israelis are Semites. The Arabs referred to as Palestinians are all Semites. Thus to separate the Arabs from the Israelis can in no way be construed as racial segregation.

Amnesty International all but says the Jewish state shouldn’t exist.

Perhaps you thought Israel had long ago established its right to exist as a Jewish state. Guess again. Hamas, Hezbollah and Iran want to eliminate Israel as we know it, but who would have thought they’d find allies in Amnesty International?

Perhaps we should have known this given some of Amnesty’s sympathies with the global left. But the nonprofit advocate for political prisoners is going far beyond that with its 211-page report labeling Israel an “apartheid” state that deserves the world’s opprobrium and sanction. The report is embargoed until Tuesday, but we’ve obtained the draft from a source other than Amnesty. It deserves condemnation for its bias and lack of understanding about why Israel survives amid hostile neighbors.

Israeli authorities must be held accountable for committing the crime of apartheid against Palestinians, Amnesty International said today in a damning new report. The investigation details how Israel enforces a system of oppression and domination against the Palestinian people wherever it has control over their rights. This includes Palestinians living in Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories (OPT), as well as displaced refugees in other countries.

The comprehensive report, Israel’s Apartheid against Palestinians: Cruel System of Domination and Crime against Humanity, sets out how massive seizures of Palestinian land and property, unlawful killings, forcible transfer, drastic movement restrictions, and the denial of nationality and citizenship to Palestinians are all components of a system which amounts to apartheid under international law. This system is maintained by violations which Amnesty International found to constitute apartheid as a crime against humanity, as defined in the Rome Statute and Apartheid Convention.
