Report says negotiations to start Thursday over ‘unprecedented’ program; 21 arrested in 2nd night of riots over official tree-planting in Negev, which has sparked coalition turmoil

Amid Bedouin riots and a major coalition crisis over controversial tree-planting in disputed parts of the Negev Desert, a report said Wednesday that the government was advancing a comprehensive plan to recognize some unrecognized villages.

For the second night in a row, residents of southern Bedouin communities clashed violently with police Wednesday night over the three-day Jewish National Fund planting in the region, seen by the Bedouin communities as part of a government effort to expel them from their unrecognized hamlets.

Police said Thursday morning that 21 rioters were arrested during the night in Tel Sheva, Segev Shalom and Rahat. On the previous night, 18 people were arrested.

Mossad Director David Barnea and Libyan prime minister Abdulhamid Mohammed Al-Dabaiba recently met in Jordan to discuss normalization and security cooperation, Saudi and Libyan media outlets reported Wednesday night.

The reports said that Al-Dabaiba’s office denied the meeting occurred.

In November, Haaretz reported that Saddam Haftar, son of Libyan warlord Gen. Khalifa Haftar, flew to Ben Gurion Airport for meetings with Israeli officials regarding potential normalization.

In 2021, relations between Jews and Arabs within Israel deteriorated markedly as evidenced by the extreme violence in mixed-population cities during the war in May last year and the continued stoning of cars owned by Jewish Israelis in Arab Jerusalem.

However, outside of Israel, there seems to be a very promising revolution in relations between the Jewish state and Arab countries, including those at the micro-level.

T. Belman. This article ignores the fact that 30% of Syria lies east of the Euphrates River and is controlled by the US. It has most of the oil in Syria and fertile agriculture lands. Russia can’t afford to rebuild Syria. Only the US can do this.

That aside, I am sure the price of reconciliation with the Gulf States will be the ouster of Iran and Hezbollah.

In any event nothing should induce Israel to return the Golan.

A senior diplomatic official reportedly said Tuesday that Israel was taking a positive view of reconciliation between Syria and Gulf states, predicting it could help curb Iranian influence in the country.

The unnamed source, quoted by the Ynet news site, said that by drawing closer to Sunni countries, Syria may be indicating it wants to oust Iranian and other Shiite entities from within its borders.

Right-wing lawmakers in the Opposition are poised to help the Bennett government pass an extension to a law strictly limiting Palestinian Arab requests for family reunification in Israel, according to a report by Israel Hayom.

The report, published Wednesday morning, claimed that months after the coalition failed to pass a bill renewing the 2003 version of Israel’s Citizenship Law, Opposition lawmakers are preparing to work with the government to prevent a wave of family reunification requests by Palestinian Authority residents.

Renowned Russian academic Sergey Karaganov describes Russian President Vladimir Putin’s speech at the latest October Valdai Forum[1] as the “first major and strong call for reinventing Russian ideology for Russia and the world.”[2] Indeed, Putin’s speech can be viewed as an ideological manifesto that tries to put Russia back in the center of the world’s political map.

Karaganov, who has been the Kremlin’s advisor on foreign policy for twelve years, explains that for many years the economy was the central factor for countries and societies (“it is the economy, stupid”). However, history proves something else. “Yes, people are driven by economic interests, but when they are partially satisfied, when at the bare minimum no one starves, they turn to other interests like security, national pride, ideological views, cultural stereotypes and needs – that is, phenomena and values of a higher order,” Karaganov states.[3]

In fact, the US pays more than 20% of the UN budget, an organization that has chosen Israel as the worst country in the world, or at least the worst that it pays attention to.

In 2021, the General Assembly of UN passed 14 resolutions against Israel. The number of resolutions passed against all the other member states totaled 5. In addition, the General Assembly recently passed an unlimited and open-ended probe of alleged war crimes against Israel, by a vote of 125 for, 8 against, and 34 abstentions. The Algemeiner, a Jewish publication I highly respect, published a column about Judaism that is not merely wrong; it actually advances a thesis that is the opposite of what Judaism teaches.That fact alone would not have prompted me to write a rebuttal. What prompts me is that the column was written by an Orthodox rabbi. It is sad enough that many non-Orthodox rabbis have been influenced more by their secular/Left educations than by the Torah. But when a rabbi identified as “centrist Orthodox” distorts one of the most important and normative ideas in Judaism, and is published in a major Jewish journal, we might be in trouble. Of course, he might be an outlier. But I don’t think he is unique. Though certainly not yet dominant, secular values have entered parts of modern Orthodox life just as they have traditional Catholic and Protestant Christian life.

I’ve just completed a marathon of listening to six hours of Joe Rogan interviewing two doctors — first Peter McCullough, then Robert Malone.  Both, uncensored on Gettr and Spotify, are worth your time.  Listening certainly furthered my education.

The two doctors collaborate and are friends, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t a few contradictions between them.  Dr. McCullough said Moronic (AKA omicron) is only four times more contagious than alpha was, but Dr. Malone said omicron is much more contagious.

Also, at Dr. McCullough’s request, Dr. Malone corrected Dr. McCullough’s statement that one can’t get the virus more than once.  Apparently, they’ve been finding that, while people who had alpha didn’t get delta, omicron is sufficiently different in its structure that it’s infecting even those who’ve had COVID previously.  The good news is that, symptomatically, it’s still not much worse than a cold, and yeah, it will provide antibodies that will keep you from getting COVID again, or so it seems.

Change by statistics bureau to affect over 400,000 Israelis, most of them Russian-speakers not defined as Jewish and non-Arab Christians, who were previously categorized as ‘other’

Changes to Israel’s census bureau means that citizens will only be classified as Jews or Arabs, with all non-Jews who are not Arab being counted under a new “extended Jewish population” rubric.

The change will see the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) eliminate the separate category of “others” in official publications on demographics, after a request from a Yesh Atid minister who worried the word could put off those included in it.

The “extended Jewish” category will include any citizen who is not Arab and not Jewish according to Jewish religious law. The CBS said it would also classify groups that are neither culturally Jewish nor Arab in the “extended” category.
