A reader tipped me to this fascinating paper in a peer-reviewed journal about a Covid outbreak in Israel that began in mid-July, just as vaccine failure was accelerating there.

A vaccinated dialysis patient was admitted to Meir Medical Center – a large Israeli hospital near Tel Aviv – with fever and cough. He remained on the dialysis unit for days, as his condition worsened. (One of many problems with overselling the vaccines is that it led to mistakes like this.)

Everyone in Israel is talking about the explosion of violent crime among Arab citizens. As of today there have been 95 murders of Israeli Arabs in 2021. Extrapolated to 12 months and divided by the Arab population of Israel, this comes out to an annual rate of 6 murders per 100,000 people. This does not approach Chicago’s murder rate of 29 per 100,000 (in Chicago’s black community this number rises to 66!), or El Salvador’s 84, but it is still 12 times greater than the 0.5 per 100,000 rate among Israel’s Jews.

Nevertheless, the illusory ideas of economic equality transcend time and appeal to people of all colors and races. If the supporters of economic equality, including Marxist graduates of American universities, absorb human history, they may realize that the only historical datum that points to economic equality goes back to the era of primitive communism. Ten thousand years ago, before farming, people were forced to obtain food collectively. Everything that was produced was immediately consumed. This primitive society produced no surplus and created no wealth. Under such arrangement, the private property was limited to personal articles of clothing, hunting tools, etc. resulting in total economic equality — in absolute poverty. Ironically, this is the only way economic equality can be achieved — economic equality and wealth are mutually exclusive.

It’s time to stop bad-mouthing those dubious about the vaccines

Describing people who decline the Covid-19 vaccines as anti-vaxxers is, at best, a misnomer or, at its worst, bigotry. It draws no distinction between those opposed to vaccines in general and those opposed to Covid vaccines.

Nevertheless, governments and the media use this descriptor to villainize those who suspect that these actors have less than good motives to justify destroying businesses, wiping out jobs, crippling the global supply chain, overseeing mounting collateral deaths, and suppressing civil, legal, and human rights—among other fallout from the effort to combat a bronchial virus with astonishingly high recovery rates and low mortality rates. Moreover, let’s not forget how these same efforts have led to massively expanding the command-and-control government.

For two generations this conservative storyteller brought us the news, and established a repository of witty observations that defined his expressive and always eloquent style. Among his frequently quoted quips was this gem: “If there is a 50-50 chance that something can go wrong, then 9 times out of ten it will.”

Perspicacious observers of Israeli political affairs would concur with Harvey’s wisecrack and readily recall how often that has been the case; in fact, as often as every time one finds reason to be optimistic about finding some détente with an adversary still dedicated to your demise.
