On September 27, 1996, the State Department was very surprised when the Taliban took Kabul.

All of the official reports stated that the Taliban were not likely to take the capital. A lone memo, which never reached Bill Clinton’s Secretary of State, warned it could happen, but was mostly ignored until nine days later when the Taliban “unexpectedly” marched into the city. Read more…

As of now, Israel’s 36th government seems to be divided into two distinct camps with contradictory approaches to the peace process with the Palestinians. Each is advancing its own agenda, but both appear to be okay and even comfortable with the situation.

The right-wing camp is led by Prime Minister Naftali Bennett; the left-wing one by Defense Minister Benny Gantz. Nevertheless, the two leaders have a good relationship, despite the occasional tensions.

T. Belman. This article is a warning. Unless the IDF is as motivated to defeat Hamas as Hamas is to defeat it, its superiority of arms will not suffice.  To put it another way, Hamas must be utterly defeated and expelled if Israel is to survive.  Wars should be fought to win, utterly, and should not be undermined with the desire not to offend the Arabs or the international community.

When referring to the “national cause”, I am sure he is not referring to the survival of Israel as the state of all its citizens  but to the embrace of  the Torah of Israel, the land of Israel (Eretz Yisroel) and the people of Israel (Um Yisroel).

Israel could start by referring to the IDF as the IVF (Israel Victory Force).

The American defeat in Afghanistan will have a direct impact on Israel. Like the pseudo-government foisted by the Americans on Kabul, which, despite massive investment, proved a broken reed, the PA and its security mechanisms will collapse in time against its Islamist adversaries, notably Hamas. Protests against Critical Race Theory (CRT) are breaking out all over America.  It may even be shaping up as a major election issue next year.  Parents are protesting against CRT at school board meetings and with their local school administrations.  It has become such a heated issue that even state and local governments are getting involved — and they’re not coming down on the side of CRT.

But CRT supporters are telling opponents that they simply don’t understand what it is.  They claim they’re fighting racism by giving  children a complete and well-rounded picture of the issue.  They assert that opponents are denying the reality of history by not supporting CRT.  But is that really the case?  Are opponents just a bunch of ignorant rubes that don’t get it?

For generations, antisemites have justified their hatred by blaming Jews for bringing it upon themselves. In medieval Europe, blood libel and host desecration accusations precipitated crusades and massacres while in the Muslim world charges of blasphemy and undue influence instigated persecution and slaughter.

With the Enlightenment came claims of Jewish particularism, global control, and economic deviancy, which further demonized Jews and paved the way for mass extermination. And since 1948, Israel has been blamed for enabling Jew-hatred, a sentiment seemingly reinforced by Foreign Minister Yair Lapid’s recent comments implicating Israeli public relations failures under former PM Netanyahu for the current spike in global antisemitism and diminishing its singularity by comparison to other hatreds.

T. Belman.  We must remain forever vigilant. We must not succumb to the idea that there are two narratives here and both must be respected. There is only one truth.

The Philadelphia Free Library said that it would be auditing its social-media posts, which with all its branches was going to be time-consuming; update its blog guidelines and social-media policy; and meet with members of the Jewish community to help guide the library in the future.

(August 30, 2021 / JNS) A public library system in Philadelphia is promising to make operational changes after drawing criticism for what some community members are considering an effort to indoctrinate children and parents against Israel through books, videos and resource links that show a biased pro-Palestinian agenda.

The issues were first discovered by members of the Jewish community, who contacted the Philadelphia Chapter of the Zionist Organization of America (ZOA) to express their concerns. ZOA Philadelphia’s executive director, Steve Feldman, a former reporter for The Jewish Exponent, looked into the concerns and said that he was disturbed by what he found on the website of the Free Library of Philadelphia—the country’s 13th-largest system of public libraries.

Recently, one of Canada’s best-known rabbis (an American by birth and a graduate of prestigious colleges in the USA) asked me bluntly and simply to explain the essence of Critical Race Theory. This is what I told him.

Critical Race Theory is the latest version of Marxism, except it has gone racial. This means that unlike traditional Marxist theory, which used to focus on the injustices experienced by working men and women in industrial and industrializing societies around the world and preached violent revolution to overthrow the capitalist democracy that persecutes them, the new victims are any kind of minority, usually people of color, but not exclusively. The “white” working class no longer counts.

Reeling from 264 deaths from Islamist terrorism since 2015, France has embarked on a far more wide-ranging response to the threat than any other Western country. Whereas successive American administrations have regarded jihadi violence as a policing matter, while ignoring or even accommodating lawful Islamist groups, French President Emmanuel Macron and most of the French political establishment understand “that Islamist terrorism can’t be entirely separate from lawful Islamism.”

During an interview regarding the recent suicide attack on Kabul airport, a former Navy SEAL quipped that no one making military decisions for the United States seems to have read a history book. Lack of knowledge, he implied, is partly why America is suffering a humiliating and unconscionable defeat in Afghanistan.

Here, then, is a short skeletal history of Muslim-Christian relations beginning with Islam’s founding in 622 AD by Muhammad, an Arab military leader intent on unifying the Arab world and conquering the rest. The lessons learned might put us on the right path forward.
