In a stunning statement last Friday in which he defended his withdrawal decision, President Joe Biden claimed that Al-Qaida was “gone” from Afghanistan. The glaring problem with that claim is that Biden did not have the backing of the American security establishment to make it. An hour after Biden spoke, Defense Department Press Secretary John Kirby stated, “We know Al-Qaida is a presence in Afghanistan.”

A Defense Department report to Congress issued on Aug. 17 plainly states, “The Taliban continued to maintain its relationship with Al-Qaida, providing safe haven for the terrorist group in Afghanistan.” Roughly at the same time, the Taliban released 5,000 prisoners from Bagram airbase, which included Al-Qaida and Islamic State operatives.

Defense Minister Benny Gantz met with PA head Mahmoud Abbas last night, which represents the first high ranking and face to face meeting between Israel and the PA in a decade. On today’s Israel Uncensored with Josh Hasten, Josh says that the gathering, on the heels of Friday’s meeting between Prime Minister Naftali Bennett and US President Joe Biden in Washington, is disturbing. Despite the fact that the PA continues to pay terrorists and their families for the murder of Israelis though their “pay for slay” program, it seems that Israel is once again trying to legitimize and bolster the PA, which has been a failed policy since the Oslo Accords in the mid-1990’s.

But no amount of wishful thinking or meaningless creations like over-the-horizon capabilities will deny the reality that the loss of Afghanistan has implications for the conflict with radical Islam far beyond Afghanistan’s geographic borders.

Culture is the primary context in which statecraft takes place. It is a concept that runs through the works of the late Professor Adda Bozeman, who understood that diplomats often talk past each other because the culture and linguistic context in which they operate mean different things.

T. Belman.  I have no trouble having such widows being given Israeli citizenship under the Law of Return. But such a law is for the Knesset to pass and not for the High Court to interpret.

Supreme Court ruled that the non-Jewish widow of someone entitled to citizenship may claim citizenship for herself.

The ruling was made by two of the three judges on the court (Justices Yitzhak Amit and Anat Baron); the third judge, Justice David Mintz, dissented.

What feminists in the West easily take for granted—Afghan feminists have to die for. If they don’t want to wear a burqa, marry their first cousin, be battered for the rest of their lives; if they want a higher education, do not want to marry, are determined to help other women—they are endangered, targeted, tortured, and executed. Their own families might honor kill them. Now, they may be forced into sex slavery by the Taliban in order to breed a new generation of warriors.

These Afghan feminist women are heroic, fearless, and are fighting for universal values. Some are still in hiding in Afghanistan, others are at the airport in Kabul, some are in the air. The lucky ones are in overcrowded temporary camps in the Middle East or dispersed throughout Europe. They rely on us because they have no one else left.

It was, for Israel, a painful awakening, served up by those who are supposed to be its dearest friends. The 100 names at the bottom of the letter published during the latest round of fighting between Israel and Gaza aren’t well known in Israel or the United States, but they are the future leadership of the American Jewish community: Reform and Conservative rabbinical students, those attending seminaries in the hopes of being ordained or becoming a cantor.

“So many of us ignore the day-to-day indignity that the Israeli military and police forces enact on Palestinians, and sit idly by as Israel upholds two separate legal systems for the same region,” the aspiring Jewish leaders wrote in their “Rabbinical and Cantorial Students Appeal to the Heart of the Jewish Community.”

On Thursday, the Virginia Department of Education published a video entitled, “Culturally Responsive and Inclusive 9/11 Commemoration,” detailing how Virginia public school teachers should handle the upcoming twentieth anniversary of the September 11, 2001 jihad terror attacks that killed nearly 3,000 Americans. The emphasis on that day and thereafter must not be on the ideology of the attackers or the ongoing jihad terror threat; rather, the focus is entirely on acknowledging and eradicating what the video calls “anti-Muslim racism.”

Prime Minister Naftali Bennett touted his “warm” and “successful” meeting with President Joe Biden on Friday, saying all of his goals had been achieved during his trip.

“We’re about to take off from a successful visit to Washington — the peak of which was meeting Biden,” Bennett said in a statement shortly before leaving the US capital. “We had a particularly warm and helpful meeting. Biden and I have developed a direct and personal relationship built on trust.”

This outcome was foreshadowed at the start by a statement from Director of National Intelligence, Avril Haines: “We’re hoping to find a smoking gun . . . it’s challenging to do that. It might happen, but it might not.” Why indeed is it so “challenging” to find a “smoking gun” and forge a consensus? Given her criminal metaphor, it is clear she believed the CCP was going to continue its obstinate refusal to assist the investigations of the United States or any international agency, (including ones it dominates, such as the World Health Organization) into the pandemic’s origin.

Asked by Americans for Peace Now CEO Hadar Susskind whether Biden raised the two issues during his meeting with Bennett, US National Security Council director for the Middle East Barbara Leaf responded, “Yes and Yes,” according to two participants on the call.

Among the tens of thousands of documents that were found in the 19th century in the Cairo Geniza, a collection of ancient Hebrew manuscripts, the largest and most important of their kind were two copies of a puzzling, handwritten manuscript that was labeled the Damascus Document.

This manuscript was believed to have been written in the 10th century C.E. and includes divine warnings, apocalyptic descriptions and religious rites. Some of the fog around this manuscript was dispersed 70 years later with the finding of . One of the scrolls that was found in the Qumran caves was the Damascus Document. In other words, this text originated with the sect that lived beside the Dead Sea.
