EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: The May riots raise essential questions about the fate of the paradigm that formed the basis of Jewish-Arab relations in Israel over the past decade.

The Jewish public and political discourse in Israel has viewed the riots that occurred in May through a starkly dichotomous prism. Right-wingers saw Israeli Arabs’ attacks on their Jewish compatriots in terms of “the 1948 discourse”—that is, a further example of the irresolvable struggle between Arabs and Jews in the land between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea. Left-wingers, for their part, preferred to see the eruption of violence as acts of extremist groups from both sides that need not disrupt Jewish-Arab coexistence in Israel.

The prospective unity government plans to implement a currently frozen deal to expand the pluralistic prayer pavilion at the Western Wall, members of the nascent coalition told American Jewish leaders last week.

One of those Jewish community leaders told The Times of Israel Monday that lawmakers from Yesh Atid, Labor and Meretz highlighted their intention to reinstitute the plan, which was frozen by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in 2016 due to pressure from his ultra-Orthodox coalition partners, who refused any move that could be seen as legitimizing pluralistic Judaism.

54 years ago today as I write this, the Six Day War between Israel and her Arab neighbors was underway.  In one of the most stunning military campaigns of the post-WW2 era, Israel confounded her adversaries and changed the course of history in the Middle East, establishing herself as a regional power to be reckoned with.  While Israel has fought many engagements since that time, none have had the singular impact of that conflict…perhaps until now.  The recent operations against Hamas in Gaza, known in Israel as “Operation Guardian of the Walls”, while not involving any seizure of new territory nor involving the totality of the IDF in the way that was seen in 1967, nonetheless may represent a watershed event in the history of modern Israel of no less significance.  The parallels between the two wars are striking in terms of both the political and military dynamics of the conflict.

Temple Mount Loyalists Society v. Police Commander of the Jerusalem Region   Decided: May 18, 1984

The petition concerned the Respondent’s refusal to permit the Petitioners to pray beside the western entrance to the Temple Mount (the Mughrabi Gate) on Jerusalem Day, out of concern that conducting prayer at that particular site would lead to a breach of public order.

The High Court of Justice held:

A.        (1)        The right to assemble and demonstrate is a basic human right in Israel. It is not an absolute right, but rather a relative right, and when it comes into conflict with other rights or interests, it must, at times, retreat in accordance with an appropriate balancing formula.

High Court rejects petition against Temple Mount ban for Jews on Jerusalem Day  May 2019

The Court put the Police in charge of whether to permit them.  This was not the first time they deferred to the police. The problem is that the only concern of the police is maintaining peace and they don’t factor in the need to assert Jewish rights OR INTERESTS according to the law.

The organizers of a planned right-wing march in Jerusalem said on Monday they had decided to cancel the event, set for Thursday, after Israeli police announced they wouldn’t allow the Flag March to pass through the OId City’s Muslim Quarter, citing security concerns.

The march was scheduled for Jerusalem Day last month, and was initially diverted due to security concerns as clashes between police and Palestinians in the city intensified, and dispersed after Hamas fired rockets at Jerusalem from Gaza as tensions peaked. This resulted in an 11-day flare-up between Israel and Gaza.

In a contentious America whose resentments are played out publicly in the name of race, sex, social status, and political affiliation, it is perhaps not surprising that one’s choice to wear or discard a mask has also given rise to controversy.

The article of faith that unites all who condemn Israel’s response to Hamas rockets in the latest escalation with Gaza, from the most rabid Islamists to the hyper-sophisticated (or so they think) pundits from the New York Times and dwellers of the ivory tower of academia, is captured by a single word “occupation.” We keep hearing from them that Gaza is occupied, that Gaza is an open-air prison, that Gaza is a “penal colony.” Gazans are oppressed, the theory goes, and Israel is the oppressor.

But let’s take a closer look at the occupation of Gaza: like so much else, the term “occupation” is very relative. While under occupation, Gaza’s rulers — Hamas — managed to amass huge military infrastructure, complete with weapons manufacturies, with thousands of trained soldiers, with a vast network of underground tunnels hundreds of miles long which the Israelis dubbed “the metro” to allow for undetected movement of weaponry and soldiers, with a huge arsenal of rockets, and even with a navy commando unit. Hamas’ police control the day-to-life of Gazans. It levies taxes and pays salaries to its followers.

1. The new Government is to be voted on in Knesset either on June 9 or 14.
2. 24 hours before voting the coalition agreements will all be released.
3. All parties have a veto power over anything not in the agreements.
4. Bibi did not build in J&S because of a freeze.
5. Bennett may be able to build within the settlement borders. Meretz has suggested it will go along with such building, If so there will be a building boom.
6. Bennett has the right to invite Shas and UTJ into the government.  If they join, Meretz and Ra’am will no longer be able to hold the government hostage.
7. As PM, there are many things he can do not requiring Knesset approval.
8. The Security Cabinet is dominated by rightists.

But no way Beijing will end Tehran ties.

China is one of the few actors which could potentially save Israel from Iran in favor of stability, a new report by the Institute for National Security Studies exclusively first obtained by The Jerusalem Post.

According to the report, with Dr. Kevjn Lim as lead author on behalf of INSS, China has started to try harder to portray itself as a “more responsible global power.”

“Gantz’s position—that Israel must publicly back Washington’s approach to Iran’s nuclear program—is shared by many in the upper echelons of the IDF and in the media. It is also shared by Yair Lapid and Naftali Bennett. In an interview with Israel’s Channel 20 in April, Bennett expressed full faith in the Biden administration. He referred to President Joe Biden as “a true lover of Israel.” He argued, “We need to work with the administration to craft the conditions for a return to the [2015 nuclear] deal.””

I thought everybody was on board with Bibi’s hard line.  I am very disturbed.

Leaders whose most important goal is maintaining friendly ties with Biden will be less willing to approve operations that can anger it.

As Naftali Bennett and Ayelet Shaked’s voters watch in shock as they betray every single thing that they claimed to stand for and form a government that gives unprecedented powers not only to post-Zionist parties but to the anti-Zionist Islamist party, it is hard to think about larger issues—like how Israel’s posture on Iran is about to change and what it means for the country.

But on Tuesday, in the midst of everything, the key strategic difference between Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and members of the camp defined by hatred of him came into full view.

Hitler’s Brown Shirts are alive and well, trolling the streets of America in keffiyehs, harassing and assaulting Jews, painting swastikas on walls, and vandalizing synagogues and Jewish-owned property.  This is the image that comes to mind, a comparison between the activities of the Nazi Party’s para-military troops of the 1930s who attacked Jewish citizens of Germany and vandalized Jewish-owned property, and the swarms of pro-Palestinian ruffians who have literally been hunting Jews in order to harass and assault them.<

This sudden explosion of violent physical antisemitic behavior witnessed in recent days in a number of large American cities, but also in Toronto and London, was not a spontaneous expression of mass rage.  It was almost certainly an orchestrated campaign emanating from somewhere within the Gaza-based Hamas terrorist organization.
