The latest election and its results have paralyzed Israel, stagnating the dynamism of its policies in the Middle East in recent years. Our region, alas, never stands still, nor is it waiting for Israel to get back on track. A series of initiatives are poised to change the reality in our region and will also affect Israel, which is failing to pay them the proper attention or prepare.

For instance, we recently learned about the rapprochement between Turkey and Egypt, two adversaries whose animosity seemed irrevocable. Several months ago, the two countries appeared to be on the verge of a clash at sea or in Libya, but based on numerous reports recently, Ankara and Cairo are reaching understandings and bridging the gaps between them.

There are 10 new ideas that are changing America, maybe permanently.

1) Money is a construct. It can be created from thin air. Annual deficits and aggregate national debt no longer matter much.

Prior presidents ran up huge annual deficits, but at least there were some concessions that the money was real and had to be paid back. Not now. As we near $30 trillion in national debt and 110 percent of annual GDP, our elites either believe permanent zero interest rates make the cascading obligation irrelevant, or the larger the debt, the more likely we will be forced to address needed income redistribution.

2) Laws are not necessarily binding anymore. Joe Biden took an oath to “take care that the laws be faithfully executed.” But he has willfully rendered federal immigration laws null and void. Some rioters are prosecuted for violating federal laws, others not so much. Arrests, prosecutions and trials are all fluid. Ideology governs when a law is still considered a law.

In an event covered in a variety of regional media outlets but largely ignored further afield, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov met on March 15 in Moscow with a delegation from the Lebanese Hezbollah organization. The delegation was led by Mohammad Raad, who heads the Hezbollah bloc in the Lebanese Parliament. This was the first official Hezbollah delegation to visit Moscow since October 2011, and the second in total. Also on the trip was Ammar al-Moussawi, who heads the movement’s foreign relations desk. A report by Russian analyst Anton Mardasov at Al-Monitor noted that the visit immediately preceded Foreign Minister Gabi Ashkenazi’s trip to Moscow on March 17, possibly leading to some logistical challenges for the Russian airport and other authorities.

T. Belman. These results justify vaccination or do they. But two issues come to mind. 1. What is the long term affect, if any.  2. Do these results justify penalizing people who refuse to be vaccinated?

A case control study, which has been peer reviewed and published in the New England Journal of Medicine, compared 596?618 people who were newly vaccinated in Israel and matched them to unvaccinated controls.1

Two doses of the mRNA vaccine reduced symptomatic cases by 94%, hospitalisation by 87%, and severe covid-19 by 92%, according to the data from the Clalit Institute for Research which is Israel’s biggest healthcare provider.

Instead of letting such a meritocracy prevail and deliver the best to the nation, the Left wants to impose a system that obsesses over race, gender, sexuality, and perceived inequities associated with these identities. Leftists seek proportional quotas to reward targeted minorities for arbitrary criteria of identity and dismiss effort and talent as “privilege.”
