The Palestinian Authority refused to speak to the Trump administration for years because of anger over the moving of the U.S. embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, pressure on them to cease funding terror and because of what they felt were the unacceptable terms of the “Peace to Prosperity” Mideast plan unveiled a year ago. President Joe Biden has already said that he intends to resume aid to the Palestinian Authority and rekindle the broken-off relationship. But it’s telling that the conversation between Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Israeli and Palestinian Affairs Hady Amr took place even before Biden found the time to speak with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

I stayed around in DC for the next several days. Flynn and Sidney left to their own worlds for a few days, but before Mike left we had a conversation. I will use this opportunity to share a bit about Mike Flynn.

I knew from people who had worked in the field what Flynn had done to make himself an enemy of the Swamp. When he arrived in Iraq, materials gained in raids were being bundled up in bags, shipped back to Virgina to be “exploited” and analyzed and, a month or two later, useful information sent back to the troops on the front lines. Flynn sees the world like an entrepreneur, and set about to redesign the process, so that exploitation and analysis was done on-base in Iraq, the entire loop condensed into 18 hours, so that the next night when people went out raiding, they already had the benefit of insights gained from the previous night’s work. Eventually the loop was so tightened that a raid early in the evening in one location was generating materials that were studied through the night, and informing raids that were still being conducted at dawn.

• So, where was the constituency for allowing the Chinese access to the market for providing critical equipment to run and manage the US power grid? Who was clamoring to undo protections from cyber-warfare directed against America’s power system?

But all of those reporters and politicos have lost a bit of credibility, shall we say, over the past four years.

The Joint List has chalked up significant achievements benefiting the Arab population, first and foremost the de facto recognition of the Arabs as an ethnic group, even by those who have denied the existence of a Palestinian nation. Even during the tough days when their people in the occupied territories and the refugee camps were confronting Israeli aggression, they stood alongside them without hesitation, at the cost of oppression and arrests and even incitement. To be a proud Palestinian in a country that alienates you is no simple thing.

Next week, the political center-stage will be occupied by the ill-fated charade of the impeachment trial. This must be the last gasp of the notorious Democratic inability to focus for long on any political activity except hatred of the ex-president.

For five years, it has been their substitute for policy and for politics itself, and it motivated the Democrats to jam through an impeachment vote with no due process, no witnesses, or evidence, with only 10 of 207 Republicans joining them.

The former president is charged with inciting an insurrection. He urged “peaceful and patriotic” representations to the Congress, no violence, and certainly no violent overthrow of the government (which is what insurrection means).

On the evening of Friday, December 18, Sidney Powell, Mike Flynn, a sharp female attorney on Sydney’s team (whom I will call “Alyssa”), and myself decided to call an SUV and get driven to the entrance that serves the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, which is on the grounds of (and connects to) the White House.  We had a vague plan regarding how we were going to get through all the rings of Capitol Police, Secret Service, and Marines without any invitation: Sidney and Mike were the center of global attention, and we were going to try to use that to bullshit our way past them all and get to the Oval Office. Beyond that, we’d be playing it by ear (I did say the plan was “vague”). There was a fine young NSC staffer whom I had gotten to know who, a real mensch, and I called him and left a message that I was accepting the open offer he had extended to drop by his office anytime, and was coming over … right then. At 6:15 PM. Not knowing if he would play ball, I may have been less than clear that there would be some people with me. Read more…
