Praise For Ambassador Tammy Bruce’s UN Remarks Challenging Double Standards Targeting Israel

Peloni:  Once again the United Nations succeeds in exposing itself as a center of Jew Hatred bias which has been too long tolerated and promoted as if it were a legitimately impartial body.  Notorious for its lack of impartiality, the UN never fails to demonstrate that it can not fulfill its mandate as a source from which honest debate towards useful solutions might be sought, specifically and consistently when Israel is in any way related to the topic at hand.

NEW YORK — A leading pro-Israel advocacy organization has publicly praised recent remarks by Tammy Bruce, following her address to an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council, where she criticized what she described as persistent double standards targeting Israel.

The December 29 emergency session was convened in response to Israel’s recognition of the Republic of Somaliland, a move that drew sharp criticism from several UN member states. Bruce used her remarks to challenge what she characterized as a disproportionate and inconsistent focus on Israel by the Security Council and other UN bodies.

Americans For A Safe Israel, also known as AFSI, said Bruce’s intervention was both necessary and overdue. In a statement released following the meeting, AFSI described her comments as a straightforward and honest assessment of long-standing UN practices related to Israel.

“Perversely, the UN has long viewed Israel as wrong no matter what it does,” said Moshe Phillips, chairman of Americans For A Safe Israel, according to the organization’s statement. “Ambassador Tammy Bruce’s decision to call out the hypocrisy and outrageous focus on criticizing Israel that happens at the UN year after year was a much-needed moment of honesty too rarely seen at the Security Council.”

During her remarks, Bruce drew a comparison between the response to Israel’s recognition of Somaliland and the lack of similar scrutiny when several countries recognized what she described as a nonexistent Palestinian state earlier this year. She argued that the disparity highlights a broader pattern of selective outrage that undermines the UN’s credibility.

“Israel has the same right to conduct diplomatic relations as any other sovereign state,” Bruce told the Council, according to prepared remarks released by the U.S. mission. “Earlier this year, several countries, including members of this Council, made the unilateral decision to recognize a nonexistent Palestinian state. And yet, no emergency meeting was called to express this Council’s outrage.”

She added that the Council’s repeated focus on Israel distracts from its core mandate. “This Council’s persistent double standards and misdirection of focus distract from its mission of maintaining international peace and security,” Bruce said.

AFSI echoed that assessment, arguing that Israel is routinely treated differently from other democracies. Phillips said Israel is frequently singled out for condemnation across UN institutions while hostile actors face comparatively limited scrutiny.

“Israel, a democracy, is regularly singled out for criticism by every UN body while its enemies are welcomed,” Phillips said. “We cannot thank Ambassador Bruce enough for speaking out on behalf of Israel.”

The organization also stated that the need for such remarks illustrates a deeper institutional problem within the United Nations. According to AFSI, the fact that a U.S. ambassador must publicly challenge what it views as entrenched bias demonstrates how far the UN has strayed from its original mandate.

“That the ambassador’s comments were necessary to make in the first place shows just how far the UN has strayed from its mandate and purpose,” Phillips said.

Israeli officials defended Israel’s recognition of Somaliland as a legitimate diplomatic decision rooted in strategic and regional considerations, including stability in the Horn of Africa and shared security interests. Critics at the UN, however, argued that the move complicates existing international frameworks, prompting the emergency meeting.

Supporters of Bruce’s remarks say the controversy underscores a broader pattern in which Israel’s actions are met with heightened scrutiny compared to those of other states. Jewish and pro-Israel organizations have long argued that such treatment fuels antisemitism by portraying Israel as uniquely illegitimate.

While the Security Council session did not result in any binding resolution, the debate highlighted ongoing divisions within the UN over Israel-related issues, including recognition, diplomacy, and regional legitimacy. Observers note that U.S. interventions of this nature have become increasingly rare in tone, making Bruce’s remarks stand out.

Americans For A Safe Israel said it will continue to support diplomatic efforts that challenge what it views as systemic bias against Israel at international forums. The organization emphasized that confronting double standards is essential not only for Israel’s standing but also for the integrity of global institutions.

Founded in 1970, Americans For A Safe Israel is one of the oldest pro-Israel organizations in the United States. The group describes its mission as advocacy and education aimed at countering anti-Israel narratives. AFSI is not affiliated with any political party in either the United States or Israel.

As debates over Israel’s diplomatic decisions continue at the United Nations, pro-Israel groups say they will be watching closely to see whether Bruce’s remarks mark a broader shift in how Israel is defended on the international stage.
