Putin warns Israel off targeting Iranian targets in Syria

Russian President Vladimir Putin is concerned about Israel’s repeated attacks in Syria, he said, after  talking for an hour and-a-half with President Barack Obama early Tuesday, Sept. 29, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York. Putin agreed that Israel’s security concerns must be taken into account in Syria, but he was worried by the IDF’s periodic strikes on positions in the embattled territory.

Sunday night, the IDF hit Syrian military targets with powerful Tamuz artillery rockets after two errant Syrian rockets landed on the Golan.

DEBKAfile’s military sources report that they hit the artillery command post of the Syrian army’s 90th Brigade, which is stationed outside Quneitra. Syrian and Lebanese sources say the Syrian deputy commander was injured.

The message the Russian president issued, straight after his meeting with Obama, was that Moscow would not put up with Israeli strikes in Syria, even in response to an attack.

This comment and the events leading up to it raise four questions:

1.  Why did Putin take the trouble to respond in person to a trivial incident like a cross-border exchange of fire on the Golan directly after his highly-important talks with Obama?

2.  Why was he so concerned by this incident? It occurred just a week after the Russian president and Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu had agreed in Moscow to set up a coordination mechanism to prevent clashes between IDF and Russian forces. And in any case Russian forces were not involved.

3. What was behind statement issued by Israel’s Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon after the incident, in which he stressed with unusual emphasis Israel’s zero tolerance of Syrian rocket infractions of its sovereignty?

4. The two highly-charged statements were obviously occasioned by much more than errant cross-border fire from the Syrian side of the Golan.

DEBKAfile’s military and intelligence sources report that the answers to these conundrums are embodied in one individual, Brig. Gen. Saeed Azadi, of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards, whose presence and operations in Syria are a closely guarded secret.

Or at least they were until Netanyahu let the cat out of the bag at his meeting with Putin last week at the Russian presidential residence outside Moscow. The prime minister disclosed his knowledge that Gen. Azadi had come to replace Gen. Ali Allah Dadi, who died on Jan 18 in an Israeli air strike against a convoy carrying Iranian Guards and Hizballah commanders traveling near Quneitra. They were there to survey a site for mounting a terrorist campaign inside Israel.

The Israeli air strike nipped this plan in the bud. But Iran and Hizballah never gave up, and Gen. Azadi was assigned to finish setting up the terror machine and getting it up and running.

A week ago, Netanyahu gave Putin notice that Israel would not let this happen – even if this meant disposing of another Iranian general.

The Russian leader explained that Israel’s attacks on Iranian military targets presented a problem because they weakened Bashar Assad.

As matter stand therefore, Russia and Israel are on a collision course: While Israel views Gen. Azadi as a menacing adversary, Putin regards him as part of the Russian-Iranian axis in Syria and wants Israel to keep its hands off him. This point is of such paramount importance to the Russian leader’s plans for Syria that he made a big deal of it at the highest international forum – almost as a sequel to his first meeting with President Obama in more than a year.

He was signaling strongly that the arrangement for the Russian and Israeli armies to coordinate their operations in Syria is unworkable and he was losing patience with Israel’s “security concerns” in so far as they impeded his plans with Iran for Syria.

DEBKAfile’s military sources add: The Syrian rocket fire Friday and Saturday was not in fact “errant” as the IDF spokesman maintained. The rockets were fired on the orders of Iranian Brig. Azadi as a demonstration that Israel’s warning to Putin was a waste of time and he meant to go forward with his operation regardless. Netanyahu and Ya’alon conveyed their message of resistance to this operation by instructing the IDF to hit back with the Tamuz rocket, a system powerful enough to give the other side pause and present Putin with an unforeseen complication in his Syrian venture.

  1. Some here in recent years have been suggesting Russia could be an ally of Israel.

And not a single one of them has family from Russia. If they did, they would know that Mother Russia is a cesspool of Jew hatred and always has been. The Russians hate Jews so much that they ushered their best scientific minds into Israel just to be rid of the Yids they despise. Russia is toxic, except for End-Times Christians like Curious who are eagerly anticipating that the Russkys will attack Israel and bring forth the Rapture.

Personally, I can do without the Rapture.

  2. Some here in recent years have been suggesting Russia could be an ally of Israel. These latest moves and threats by closeted fag dictator Putin should put that notion to rest.

  3. Eze 39 goes further

Therefore, thou son of man, prophesy against Gog, and say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against thee, O Gog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal:

And I will turn thee back, and leave but the sixth part of thee, and will cause thee to come up from the north parts, and will bring thee upon the mountains of Israel:

Again. Magog = Eastern European peoples. Meshech = Moscow Tubal = Tobolsk/Sibera

Meschera Forest just East of Moscow

    In Modern English

Therefore, thou son of man, prophesy against Gog, and say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against thee, O Gog, the [Russian] prince of Moscow and Siberia/Tobolsk:

nd I will turn thee back, and leave but the sixth part of thee, and will cause thee to come up from the north parts, and will bring thee upon the mountains of Israel:

This nation will come from the North parts.

Draw a line from Jerusalem due north and you will hit Moscow. Check it out. Seriously.

13 Sheba and Dedan and the merchants of Tarshish and all her [young lions] will say to you, “Have you come to plunder? Have you gathered your hordes to loot, to carry off silver and gold, to take away livestock and goods and to seize much plunder?”’

Sheba and Dedan may be Saudi Arabia and Yemen, who are so disgusted with Iran that they will do nothing against Israel.

The interesting thing is Tarshish. Tarshish used to be in Spain. However, around the first millenium B.C. there was a large migration of Celts to the British Isles from Spain.

Yes, before the invasion of the Moors, Spain was a lot whiter and much more Celtic. Lusitanian and Galiacian Celts and Basques migrated to the British Isles when the Romans came in.

Tarshish is Britain. So where is the USA?

The young lion which came out of Britain.

What will they do?! NOTHING! But ask questions.

But apparently, Russia will be destroyed.

I will execute judgment on him with plague and bloodshed; I will pour down torrents of rain, hailstones and burning sulfur on him and on his troops and on the many nations with him. 23 And so I will show my greatness and my holiness, and I will make myself known in the sight of many nations. Then they will know that I am the Lord.’

There is more to this, but Christianity and Judaism diverge on what happens afterward.

I have seen one Jewish source claim the Moishach will make his appearance during or after this.

Christian sources believe than an imposter Moshiach will emerge after this to set up a false peace; but after 3-1/2 years, it will only get more violent and worse until Christ returns.

Whatever you feel about the end, both Christians and Jews agree that Russia will intervene in the Mideast and be destroyed for it.

  4. Israel is going to be drawn into a war with Russia and Iran very, very soon.

    Ezekiel 38
The word of the Lord came to me: 2 “Son of man, set your face against Gog, of the land of Magog, the chief prince of Meshek and Tubal; prophesy against him 3 and say: ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: I am against you, Gog, chief prince of Meshek and Tubal. 4 I will turn you around, put hooks in your jaws and bring you out with your whole army—your horses, your horsemen fully armed, and a great horde with large and small shields, all of them brandishing their swords. 5 Persia, Cush and Put will be with them, all with shields and helmets, 6 also Gomer with all its troops, and Beth Togarmah from the far north with all its troops—the many nations with you.

    Let’s break it down:

    The word of the Lord came to me: 2 “Son of man, set your face against Gog, of the land of Magog, the chief prince of Meshek and Tubal;

Magog is the historic name of a historical people, originally from the Caucuses, but now found in Eastern Europe and Russia.

For ex: Hungarian for Hungarian is Magyar.

The word for chief is “rosh”. Similar to Russian?! Cognate?!

Meshek. The area outside Moscow is called Meschera Forest.

Eastern Russia has a Siberian Capital called Tobolsk.

So in modern English it would be

    The word of the Lord came to me: 2 “Son of man, set your face against Gog, of the land of [Eastern Europe], the [Russian] leader of Moscow and Tobolsk/Siberia;

    Now for the next verses:

4 I will turn you around, put hooks in your jaws and bring you out with your whole army—your horses, your horsemen fully armed, and a great horde with large and small shields, all of them brandishing their swords. 5 Persia, Cush and Put will be with them, all with shields and helmets, 6 also Gomer with all its troops, and Beth Togarmah from the far north with all its troops—the many nations with you.

    Persia = Iran.
Cush = Descendants of Ham, and is mistranlated as Ethiopia (which is still majority Christian). Probably Sudan, which is Muslim and arms the Arabs is more accurate.

Libya. Much of Al-Qaeda comes from Libya.

Russia will be brought in by a hook which means unwillingly.

In other words, Russia will be drawn into a war to support Iran against Israel.

The War of Gog and Magog (Gog U Magog) is about to happen.

But first … Damascus has to be destroyed.

Isa 17:1 An oracle concerning Damascus. Behold, Damascus will cease to be a city and will become a heap of ruins.

This will happen very rapidly, very soon.

Ezekiel, Daniel, and Isaiah are now more up-to-date than the news. The Book of Revelations, too … if you are willing to read a Christian sacred text.

  5. Another important question is what obstacle the RF Syrian presence plays in an Israeli mission against the Iranian nuclear weapons program.

Putin is on the record at his last UN speech as claiming that Islam is a religion of peace and that ISIS is a perversion of Islam. He went out of his way to make this claim.

There is also the concern that the presence of the RF in Syria might play a role in momentum for the fraud of Palestinian Nationalism. Perhaps it is significant that Putin did not bring up the subject in his speech.

  6. If we understand what is important for Putin, we may be able to give it to him, or something better that that.
And he may turn to be our ally, instead of enemy.

  7. Putin would represent a nominal threat to Israel if not for Obama’s complicity. The vacuum created by the American withdrawal from the Middle East is a strategic attempt to realign what our communist friend Felix would call the “correlation of forces”. Obama instinctively defers to evil, and as a result Israel is the target of pincer movement. It is therefore imperative for the IDF to obliterate Hamas so that attention can be focused on the growing northern threat, which is existential. Otherwise, the next attack on Israel is likely to be coming from multiple fronts.

In the absence of vigilance on Obama’s part, Putin is free to run wild. He is an old style Russian czar, the former head of the Soviet Gestapo. This is one bad dude, and Israel might as well forego its neurotic concerns about world public opinion because it will soon be time to play extremely rough.

  8. @ bernard ross:
They are all our enemies. Israel has one side Israel. Israel has a tacit understanding with some of the Syrian jihadis on our border. Israel can help them with medical needs. They are to make sure they do not shoot near Israel or approach Israel violently. Some of these Jihadi’s are influenced perhaps by the GCC but not ISIS.

ISIS is everyone’s enemy. They from time to time have understandings with some of the other Jihadis (Al Nusra – “Syrian Al Quida”) but at times get into battles with them.

ISIS is not by the Israel border because they are aware that Israel is much more than they can handle at this point in time and would be routed in quick order.

  9. I guess this answers Felix question as to who Israel should side with, if anyone. Iran, Hezbullah, assad and Russia are the prime danger to Israel without a doubt.. the ragtag rebels and IS are no match. In fact IS does not come to Israels borders likely on instructions from the GCC. Putin is now defining himself clearly and overtly as the existential enemy of Israel and the Jews. If he were not the enemy he would reign in Iran and hezbullah from the syrian golan.
However, anything from Debka must be viewed as potential disinformation. But it appears as if Putin is not behaving satisfactorily regarding Israeli concerns.

  10. Iran setting up on Israel’s border is a highly dangerous development and can not be allowed. The only language Iran will understand is the death of their soldiers and officers.
