Random thoughts on recent events

By Ted Belman

The latest poll puts Likud ahead of Labor/Livni. That’s a good thing. It is suggested by JPOST that that rise is due to Bibi’s handling of hostilities to the north. I am not so sure. In any event the poll didn’t reflect the last minute list changes, one of which is that Benny Begin will now be in a realistic spot on Likud’s list.

Leiberman took Bibi to task over his weak response. Once again Bibi’s timid policy of quiet for quiet rules the day.

Eli Uishai submitted his list yesterday leaving Ben Ari out and Baruch Marzel in. Yishai’s party is expected to get 7 seats in this election only one of which is set aside for Otzma. After the election, Marzel will split off and go into the opposition while Yishai supports Bibi with his remaining 6 seats. Marzel in opposition will fight for not releasing terrorists, not freezing construction, not holding negotiations with the Palestinian Authority (PA), and not letting Hamas survive another operation. Works for me.

Marzel Refuses to Shake Hand of ‘Anti-Israel’ Judge and for very good reason.

Portugal Offers Citizenship to Descendants of Expelled Jews. Who cares?

France Implores Jews Not To Leave, Offers Military Protection But Phyllis Chesler reminds us:

What have we here? The country of Dreyfus– the country of Vichy and Drancy, Nobel Peace Prize winner Yasser Arafat’s home away from home, the country in which “Death to the Jews” has been yelled by mobs in the nineteenth, twentieth, and twenty-first centuries—is this country actually waking up?

As my colleague Dr. Richard Landes has noted, somewhat bitterly, these very vocal French leaders and the French media have been entirely missing in action for the last fourteen years when French Jewish-only blood was spilled: In Marseilles, Toulouse, and Paris, in a series of torture-murders, beatings, stabbings, shootings, and attacks against synagogues and Jewish schools—anyone who cried out “anti-Semitism” or Intifada was considered an alarmist and an annoyance. Philippe Karsenty was sued by France’s Channel 2 for his righteous challenge regarding the Al-Dura Blood Libel.

Egypt again under attack in Sinai. Army and police targeted leaving 26 killed.. Just imagine if the terrorists targeted Israel instead. Egypt is in a long battle against these terrorist but isn’t bound by the Geneva Conventions or “international law” or human rights groups. It will do what has to be done.

Paul Weston, the controversial British politician, formed the Liberty GB Party this year. he complains in a 5 minute video that The Floodgates on Immigration are still Open. He wants to moratorium on immigration for five years. In another video (8 minutes). his colleague, Jack Buckby, says multiculturalism is impossible and I agree. I hope that this party will do well in future elections. He is definitely Britain’s Ghert Wilders.

China and Israel signed a three-year action plan on innovation cooperation Good.

So dweller, how does one prove he or she is Jewish online?
Is that in the JfJ guide to the perplexed?

You weren’t branded. In Texas were branded J [for Jewish] T [for Texas] etc.

  2. mrg3105 Said:

And, totalitarian regimes also evolve and morph.

That is foolish ignorance and the projection of one cultural experience on another cultural existence you cannot even imagine. You, like Yamit, live in a shoebox and don’t know what is outside the shoe store.

It doesn’t matter though as for your concerns, nothing to bother further about.

  3. mrg3105 Said:

Max, you are the World expert on Chinese and totalitarian regimes?

Because of my experience and recognizing the lack of effect of experience here, I know I am the only expert here. This I know for a certainty as I can see your reply, which is typical, is not borne of direct experience but of intellectual politicking.
When someone knows something you need to recognize it and to listen instead of resent what you don’t know, pontificate, imagine and invent.

  4. @ mrg3105:

“how does one prove he or she is Jewish online?”

Never experienced such a need. Who would want to offer ‘proof’?

“Is that in the JfJ guide to the perplexed?”

i’ve no idea. Sounds like you should be asking that of the JFJ people.

    @ mrg3105:

“What Israel has is that they are most closest to resemble Adam HaRishon, who was made in the image of God”

    Got some evidence for that?

“(dweller, you can have a go at your IDOL accusation again)”

I’ve no idea what you’re referring to. I’m afraid you’ll have to reference the specific comment & context.

  5. Max, you are the World expert on Chinese and totalitarian regimes?

The United States continued to expand exponentially “from sea to shining sea”, using aggression. Totalitarian?

The British Empire, the cradle of Western democracy, expanded until “the Sun never sets on the empire”, mostly because “Britannia rules the waves”. Totalitarian?

And, totalitarian regimes also evolve and morph. Largely because on the inside there are people, and people change. The change from Lenin to Stalin to Khruschev, to Brezhnev to Gorbachev…

The change from Washington, to Jackson, to Lincoln, to Wilson, to Roosevelt, to Truman, to Kennedy, to Reagan until today when the United States is unrecognisable as intended in 1784.

China, nay, the Chinese Communist Party too has evolved into less ideological, more economically pragmatic, and culturally nationalistic entity than originally envisaged in the 1930s. It does not make it less dangerous, perhaps more so, but it should be evaluated as a dynamic process.

If you belong to the CCP elite, you are MORE free than any Israeli would ever hope to be 🙂
What Israel has is that they are most closest to resemble Adam HaRishon, who was made in the image of God 🙂 (dweller, you can have a go at your IDOL accusation again 🙂 )

What happened in 1979 was pride and cultural history. Had nothing to do with warfare.

I have news for you. There have been according to one assertion no less than 23 ‘Tiananmen squares’ across China since the 1980s in various cities.

So what? People get the leaders they deserve 🙂

Ignorant because you don’t know the world from a shoe box, Totalitarian regimes have a built in need to aggress outwards – you would know that if you attended any public event in China or talked to economic expats in China studying China (as I have) – if you ever left the shoebox.
Also as a Russian expat told me – “If the communists are in charge of the desert – they will lose the sand” – look what they did to Shanghai.

    .. freedom – duh

    mrg3105 Said:

Change is a fact of life. The Chinese Communist Party recognizes this also, and are far more pragmatic about their capability and capacity to deal with unplanned and counter-systemic changes

ha ha this is one of the perpetual absurd misconceptions I hear over and over again for decades from people who simply haven’t experienced totalitarian regimes. They don’t do what is logical like you would – they do what it takes to rule even if that means taking the country back to 1950 and/or killing 80 percent or declaring unnecessary wars – nothing matters but power.
Remember the Sino-Vietnamese War of 1979? …of course you do. …pointless destruction and loss of life.
And in the build up to support it China prepared for fulls scale war against the Soviet Union – Defcon 2 style.
    ..
Shortly before Tiananmen II (Yes, oh ye ones sheltered by the Western Media – the second Tiananmen massacre) I saw a Western TV crew interview an old man in Temple of Heaven Park. They asked him what he thought of the “New China” He told them the more things change the more things remain the same.
    They laughed at him.
The massacre was two months later – no laughing from Western TV crews as they were rounded up pushed in unmarked vans by plainclothes security beaten up, roughed up, equipment smashed and expelled.
    ..
The system of rule doesn’t change , hasn’t changed will not change under the Chicoms – it has been the same since 1949. Power does what power needs.

“This guy is one of those JEWS FOR JESUS nut who uses the chit chat for proselytizing. He is a propaganda machine for the yeshu crap.”

As usual, you don’t know your arse from your elbow in these matters.

“This guy” has never had anything to do with the JEWS FOR JESUS crowd or any other such outfit.

They subscribe to the ‘divinity’ of Jesus — the one & ONLY doctrine to which a Jew may not hold.

“This guy” has never subscribed to the ‘divinity’ notion, and have pointedly & consistently rejected the proposition in, quite literally, HUNDREDS of posts on this blogsite. The archives are unambiguously clear.

But significant details like this don’t matter to you anyway, as you’re just an office assistant around here for Capt Huff’n’puff’s clique — one who occasionally puts in an appearance as a character assassin on his behalf, as a means of paying her dues. . . .

  8. @ yamit82:

    “He ain’t no Jew!”

    Oh, yes he is.

    — Not so sure about you though, Huff’n’puff. Being Jewish is too much of a shtick with you.

    @ dove:

“Not anymore….but he WAS according to what he says. Born Jewish. Raised Jewish….then chose to leave the Jewish fold by becoming a Paul clone.”

Never chose anything of the sort.

What I chose was to do my own thinking

    — a discipline I got from the Jews who raised & taught me.

    “Paul clone”? — LSHMSFOAIDMT.

    Never been anybody’s clone.

Unlike yourself, I have no use for clones of any kind.

  9. @ dove:

No. Actually he’s just not very respectful of Jew-wannabe’s; sees them for what they are.

  10. @ mrg3105:

If they do attempt to stab us in the back we have a plan B. We will put all the xtians on the front lines protecting Israels borders and convince them they must do this and then Jesus will come back………lol

Half time show at the Superbowl was good…….guys are still watching the game.

  11. @honeybee…there isn’t much point in having a product when one can’t sell it for a price above production cost, is there?
Yawls are small sailing boats by the way 🙂

@Dove, Why was it that Ahashveirosh change his mind when he realised Haman was plotting to destroy the Jews?

Fortunately no one can take from Jews what they need and stab us in the back 🙂
Consider that the Greek ‘civilisation’ only ‘flourished’ after their coastal colonies reached Israel. They took as much as they could from us, then stabbed us in the back. Hanukkah.

    We are our worst enemies.
    Tesha b’Av – our fault
The exile of the other tribes – our fault.
Destruction of both batei mikdash – our fault

Perhaps the Chinese due to their studiousness will finally see the Bereishit 12:3 And I will bless them that bless thee, and him that curseth thee will I curse; and in thee shall all the families of the earth be blessed.’

I suspect this is why all of a sudden xtians want to be known as an ‘Abrahamic religion’? They don’t know what a blessing is, but they realise that if everything fails, “change your name, change your mazal” 🙂

Of course the Chinese could become the Abrahamic Communist Party 🙂

  12. @ mrg3105:

Dove, I recollect other slaughters also.

so 2 wrongs or 5 wrongs or 10 wrongs make it right? Don’t say I didn’t warn you. They will be like all the others – take from us what they need then stab us in the back.

  13. @ mrg3105:

Texas has enough oil reserves to supply the energy of Texas and USA for net 50 years and beyond. If succeed from the Union again yawl are on yawls own.

  14. Dove, I recollect other slaughters also.

Change is a fact of life. The Chinese Communist Party recognises this also, and are far more pragmatic about their capability and capacity to deal with unplanned and counter-systemic changes than the Soviet Communist Party ever was.

However, the Chinese cultural underlay is far less susceptible to change than that of the Russian culture. The intensity and frequency of Chinese social change is on a different wavelength.
I think this is hard to accept for Americans in particular who virtually demand change as a daily ‘serving’.

Never the less we do see change happening. China today is a vastly different country to that of 1948. As a society accumulates resources, their utility and distribution offers more ‘energy’ for those who would contest leadership. The Chinese recognise this, and therefore seek to a) provide outlets of such energies via commercial enterprise, and b) incorporate such potential challengers into its organisation as ‘talent’. They learned something from both the Soviet Union and the United States.

And now consider what a student protest would look like in the USA today with 230 million firearms in private hands. Kent State University was a mere whimper of social discontent.

It is for this reason that the US Government continues to allow the arming of its population contrary to the 2nd Amendment of the US Constitution, ensuring that an annual death toll of 30,000 prevents any really forceful popular protest by promoting firearm insecurity.

Soviet Union achieved this through the labour camp network.

For this reason the Occupy Movement achieved nothing, because they had learned nothing from the founding fathers. Radical change requires radical measures, usually involving the spilling of blood.

    Its the Greco-Roman way 🙂

  15. Bernard, The Chinese for some time engaged in a one-child policy which actually changed the normal cycle of social wealth-building. This aside from the prolific urbanisation and delay in first childbirth as has occurred in developed countries. This was the result of a deterministic economic philosophy adopted in Western Europe during the late-19th century which optimistically sought technological remedies for human problems. This philosophy continues to ignore the evidence for cyclical behaviour of social wealth-building. Breaking down this cycle also demolishes the social systems required to build wealth. This is the reason we see extreme accumulation of capital in a very small percentage of the population – the breakdown in the savings-investment cycle has created a risk-averse wealth ‘drift’. As an example, though the number of billionaires in the USA is getting larger, the USA as a whole is actually becoming poorer.

Fracking however is only a temporary ‘cushion’. Chinese demands for energy are going to continue escalating, as will those of India and rest of South and South East Asia, and to a lesser extent, South America. The Europeans have already reached a ceiling which forces them to be beholden to Russian supply.

These energy demands can not be met with fossil fuels past the next three generations (75 years).

For this reason Putin has directed substantial funding towards research in geothermal energy in Kamchatka, and into superconductivity required to enable creating a new energy grid that would encompass the Russian Far East ad Asia (all of it). The achievement of tapping the magma would enable obsolescence of the entire fossil fuel industry market. This is the reason for the economic warfare being waged by the US today, and the record low petrol prices. The hope is that Russia will go bankrupt before it achieves this result.
    Hope is not a strategy.

    The better question is why?
The answer is that the US political system has sunk up to its neck in petrodollars, and there is no leadership will to make the same commitment to science and research to tap USA’s own and more accessible geothermal resource. After all, what would gas stations sell if everyone is driving electric vehicles? Oil, gas, coal and nuclear sectors would become obsolete, but they are significant contributors to both major parties.

So one has to ask the question – is the USA much better than any other nation in the World if the desire to retain political power by individuals is greater than the desire of hose individuals to exercise this power for the good of “We the People…” AS THEY WERE ELECTED FOR?

This is why I advocate that Israel’s political leadership should significantly diversify their investment in global allegiances.

And, this is why Russia and China are increasingly seeking closer ties with Israel, particularly in areas of science and technology. Ted’s regular ‘good news’ updates provide the answer to that 🙂

  16. @ mrg3105:

I personally would not get into bed with a regime like China….I believe it would and could backfire.

  20. @ yamit82:
    bernard ross Said:

they can do what western market economies cannot: invest in providing solutions for the inevitable outcomes of current policies.

while the Chinese are building cities and planning ahead for their 30 year plus expansion intentionally implemented by the west the western economies have made NO provision for the economic dislocation which every economist must have known would occur as a result of the west exporting their jobs, production and capital to Asia over a 30 year period. They don’t even tell the truth that this is the major cause of our economic dislocations because they know that this truth mean slow growth for many years until china starts importing from the west. Therefore, the dislocation is portrayed as random, or cyclical natural cycles. The cushion which hides this fact is fracking and the production of oil and gas in the US which hides the severe dislocation born of those policies.

  21. dove Said:

Maybe with China aligning with Israel some of the Jewish way will rub off on them.

all Israel will need from China is a drop in chinas bucket. As China grows whatever China does with Israel will carry the effect of the worlds largest economy.

  22. yamit82 Said:

All the Chinese need do is to redirect they production to their own people and it will solve all there problems now that they have their own industrial and production base.

I believe this is the process they are following very cautiously and slowly: morphing from an export driven economy to a consumer driven economy (like the west) I believe that the last 30 years whereby the west has exported its jobs, capital and production to asia was based upon using the West’s consumer engine to build china(Asia’s) economy. I thin the idea behind this is that when china with its billions becomes a consumer economy they will be the biggest consumption engine in the world and the worlds corporations will be geared to primarily servicing their imports. For globalist corporations this is a desirable goal because they will be able to continue to evade taxes etc by being internationally based nad they will manipulate economic international agreements to guarantee their autonomy. They probably hope to replace nations as the prime influence.

I believe that with the first cold war exchange with the soviet union that pepsico understood how efficacious it was to do business with communist and totalitarian govs. Those govs could guarantee stable agreements and labor. there are no unions in communist nations so when the gov agrees the workers must go along. oodles of cash goes into foreign banks to those who are in control of the decision-making in those govs.

the building of empty cities in china, i believe, is an investment towards the demands of the projected consumer driven society. they can do what western market economies cannot: invest in providing solutions for the inevitable outcomes of current policies. Market economies can only be reactive whereas centrally planned economies can be pro active. It is interesting that western capitalist entities have been making a centrally planned economy the current most successfully growing economy.

For those who don’t watch the game (that would be myself) refrain from chit chatting around serious ball watchers. I like seeing the new commercials and watching the half time show.

Maybe with China aligning with Israel some of the Jewish way will rub off on them. They do need a moral compass.

  24. @ dove:
I’m not a Superbowl watcher. My granddaughter’s father trained her since she was about three. Now I have a sweet 8 years old who goes taking about football and predicting who is going to win. Her call: NE Patriots.
She looks sweet but she can catch a football also. She told us at about five: I’m not one of this girls who like all that princess stuff. I do not like all the silly dresses. I like regular people mom. She told my daughter.
Not to worry I buy a lot of wooden toys and many things but believe me I hate all that promotional Disney crap.

I lived and worked in Communist China and interacted with the grass roots culture. Many ordinary people shared with me their secret narratives. The system is evil. Our leaders are glossing it over and fobbing us off because they are doing business hand over fist with them. In fact I suspect our Western business leaders admire their techniques and are emulating them. (Just look at the horror story about Apple) The truth about totalitarian systems round the world is being hidden to us because of business interests but these chickens too will come come home to roost.
Just attend a national sponsored “music concert” anywhere in China – the fanatical rabid nationalism drummed up there is frightening. One day their internal pressures to feed and supply energy for their population will turn that ferocity outwards.

  30. mrg3105 Said:

‘Humour’ is in fact a symptom of insecurity

Obviously you have no sense of humour. You can’t take a joke about Sarah Silverman then you are far too uptight – very similar psychology to Islamic fundamentalists – all fundamentalists have their inner censor working overtime and they are all violent and dangerous…
because of course their first victim was their own sense of humour.
    ..
Sarah is upfracked in her leftist self-hating Islamist appeasing brain about politics ..but she is funny. She offends uptight fundamentalists (she’s your Charlie Hebdo) and I do appreciate that – that’s the job of humor – it’s usefulness.
    ..
Jack Buckby did a very good job of defining indigenous British culture – just about the same definition can be made for North America, (Canada and America) – and he pointed out quite clearly has that culture which is disavowed by the pro-Islamist immigration culture is being destroyed. Those ideas he presented are new to me and quite useful -these are key ideas.

  31. omne fidei est falsific?re

As to the origins of Jewish humour,

You may also find this interesting

And since we are swapping Latin, note that the Latin source umor refers to body fluid, and what did Sarah laugh about? “…man is not fashioned from all the drop but only from its purest part.” (Niddah 31a)

It seems the Latins too thought that humour was based in the event which combined the hopelessness and seeming improbability of the suggestion. Since most humour requires the unstated hint to the improbable, perhaps its true etymology is in the ramuz, with the zayin being ‘lost’ over time.

  32. mrg3105 Said:

‘Humour’ is in fact a symptom of insecurity

I think that would depend on the type of humor and who is the audience.

It’s not exactly one size fits all. Humor does reflect what passes for culture otherwise it wouldn’t be accepted.

    Credo Quia Absurdum …

  33. @ Max:

A deal with the devil – China is an totalitarian state as dangerous and evil as Iran, Hezbollah and Hamas – I think their strategy may be to let Islam fight the West and pick up the pieces after the Islamocolapse.

I agree with this estament. All of the communst totqalitarian regimes cannot be trusted. They never keep their agreements or keep any promises. Came to San Jose California and rented part of a building where advance electronic research was taking place. The upper floor was out of bounds for the Chinese. Guess where they found them trying to break in? It is true that the West has been totally indoctrinated to believe the enemy. Any totalitarian system is our enemy.Under this Administration we are arming and training the enemy with our taxpayers money. The very people who are going to attack us if we allow them; and betraying our friends. We keep antagonizing our and allies. We must work as if everything depends on us and pray as if everything depends on G-d. When the times come I’m sure we will not be abandoned. Thank you Max.
I have been sick for more than a month. Still cannot see very well. I have been watching mrg3105 and I’m delighted with the very smart and to the pint commentary.

Grandaughter know the prayer to light the Hanukkah Candles and has a very beautiful and sweet voice. Ben the bug tried to blow the candles every time he had a chance. He sings off key anyway. Glad to see you back.

  34. Max, I doubt very much that there are many Americans who can define American culture, and those least able to do so are Americans involved in the entertainment industry, and of all these, the comedians are the LEAST aware of culture.

By definition a purportedly Jewish comedienne is the least of the LEAST culturally aware since she has no idea of her own culture or that of her host country.

Culture is self-identity, but most American Jews have lost that, and Sarah Silverman seems to be one of these. Lack of self-identity would produce a sense of insecurity.

‘Humour’ is in fact a symptom of insecurity

Which is perhaps why in the Torah only one person laughs…Sarah.

  35. Good videos from Jack Buckby and Paul Weston – though I doubt anything can save UK from the coming apocalyptic civil war with their Muslims.

  36. China and Israel signed a three-year action plan on innovation cooperation Good.

A deal with the devil – China is an totalitarian state as dangerous and evil as Iran, Hezbollah and Hamas – I think their strategy may be to let Islam fight the West and pick up the pieces after the Islamopocalpse.

Perhaps the fatal flaw of Westerners is that they are so overrun , penetrated and indoctrinated with the evil of totalitarianism such as in the system of economic fascism and political opportunism that they have lost all sense of morality of the basic difference between good and evil.

  37. My forecast in the end Likud will form a coalition with:
Bayit HaYehudi, Koolanu, UTJ, Shas, Yisrael Betenyu and maybe Yishai’s new party if they pass the 4 seat minimun

  38. As we reported for weeks. Now the “pollsters” join the facts, at least for now.
They now report Likud with 27. Not so.
    LIKUD 26
    Livni & Hertzog: 19- Predicted 17
    Jewish Home: 17 Predicted 18
Based on our data base history we predict that Mr. Bennett may well match the Livni-Hertzog aggregate.

  39. The Livni-Hertzog aggregate was never ahead Ted.
Likud is 26, the renegades are now in second place with 19 mandates and falling again.
Bennett badly erred and lost two mandates with 17.
    The rest is the rest.
