The latest developments in Syria challenge the validity of the doctrine of Political Islam that has guided Western diplomacy during the ‘Arab Spring’ and has triggered the fall of secular, pro-Western Arab regimes, which have been replaced by Muslim Brotherhood offshoots. The doctrine rested on the assumption that the West and the Muslim Brotherhood were united against al-Qaeda as their common enemy. Political Islam called for cooperation to defeat al-Qaeda’s brand of terror, which could only be done together with forces within the Islamic world.
Today, however, there are visible cracks in the Obama administration’s belief in the doctrine. President Obama formally proclaimed his support for the Muslim Brotherhood-led coalition of Syrian oppositional forces, headed by Muaz Khatib, as the officially representative body of the Syrian people. And, true to the doctrine, the US president made a distinction between the Brotherhood-led coalition and the group led by the Nusra group affiliated with al-Qaeda, which the United States has classified as a terrorist organization.
While Western diplomats labored to create a coalition that would exclude Salafist elements, which were present in the now defunct Syrian National Council, the Muslim Brotherhood gave its assent and agreed with the West.
At the Doha Conference, Muslim Brotherhood representatives showed a lot of goodwill and excluded al-Qaeda affiliated groups from the new coalition. However, they promptly rejected Obama’s distinction between the coalition and al-Qaeda at the ‘Friends of Syria’ conference in Marrakesh last week and emphasized that the Nusra group is part and parcel of the opposition to Assad and a brother in arms. Worse still, al-Qaeda appears to be the dominant faction among Syrian rebels.
According to al-Quds al-Arabi’s Friday’s edition, the emir of the Nusra group is a relative of the notorious al-Qaeda leader in Iraq Abu Musab al-Zarqawi from Zarqa, Jordan. Another former leader from Zarqa, Abu Jailabid Tubassi, was of Palestinian heritage, as his name would indicate, while the organization’s full name is ‘Jabhat a-Nusra li-Ahl a-Sham’ – ‘the Front for the rescue of the people of Greater Syria’.
It is likely then that its leaders’ roots in Jordan and their Palestinian heritage, along with the organization’s name, indicate an intention to “liberate” Palestine and impose Salafist rule in Jordan and Lebanon.
Syria itself will then likely become a failed state like Somalia. It appears that Political Islam has brought terrorism to the doorstep to Europe.

(When you find out what is really real let me know.)
and so say we all.
Well, it’s been real!
DanS. Said:
There will be no Dhiminnis. If the Arabs ever get past the IDF almost everybody will be slaughtered immediately along with the burning and blowing up of almost every building. A few might escape by boat or airplane. I wonder? Maybe some could make it out through friends in Jordan ?
A lot will be tortured before being killed. There will be some groups of Jews taken prisoner in the general mêlée, but some Jihadist leader will come along, take charge and have them executed somewhere.
Some other country like America might try to deal for the release of a few prisoners if there is time – but it would be very hard for any Arab group to protect such prisoners in the general blood lust.
…
No, no Jewish Dhiminnis.
I suppose in your sci-fi scenario, Obama’s last step would be to so something with the nuclear suitcase and a few conspirators to disable America’s nuclear defense and blow up about 10 American cities.
Shades of Baltar for Battlestar Galactica
Now who are the seven cylons?
posit this: MObama really IS a Sunni. He gets the Ikhwan their Sunni Khilafah, he then goes after Shiite Iran, using Sunnis AND Israel – Israel gets taken out in the war or significantly diminished to the point of HAVING to make a “one state solution” to avoid annihilation and slowly but surely Isratine goes Islam with Jews as dhimmis again in our own land (if any survive).
Back to the future.
Oh, and the Sunnis defeat the Shiites and establish a world wide khilafah.
Itbah al-Yahud! Allahu Ahkbar!!
MObama IS the Mahdi.
audioboo – The conflict between the Secular and Jihadist rebels where a secular anti-Islamist leader, unfortunately now killed in combat , says he was forced to ‘dance with the devil’
It’s clear the US policy or Obama policy let the Jihadis into Syria by not helping the Secular nationalists in their hour of need or YEAR of need.

But then again, ther is another side to the story.
Perhaps, the view below will prevail, perhaps not – it remains to be seen.
I know for others there is no good or even better case scenario if Muslims are involved but this is not my view.
In moderation – links to FSA new military command profile.
As per what Mao said as per ‘political power’ the people in the picture in the first link here might control the future in Libya. I think this excludes the Al Nusra.
It’s a mixed bag including secular leaders – the final outcome might depend on how much vital territory each group controls – and then they will struggle with each other for control. Unfortunately, we know secular intellectuals don’t do so well under these circumstances – they are always the ‘martyrs’ to the revolution.
I haven’t found a political profile on General Idris.
That doesn’t look so good but it would be even worse if we hadn’t been there with any influence at all in my opinion. Obama dropped the ball on this a year ago.
The situation is still very fluid as per who will emerge in the leadership.
As for Assad, note in the second article the timeline is 2-3 months to the end (by deduction – unless Assad’s air-power can be suppressed or overrun in which case it’s one month- which is unlikely).

The opposition Free Syrian Army elected a new military command, replacing Colonel Riad al-Asaad with Brigadier General Salim Idris, Al Arabiya television reported early on Monday
Idris told Al Arabiya in a telephone interview that the new command was elected by hundreds of rebels. Because they “are the real fighters on the ground, they decided to choose who leads them in the battle against Bashar al-Assad.”
The unified command includes many with ties to the Muslim Brotherhood and to Salafists, who follow a puritanical interpretation of Islam. It excludes the most senior officers who have defected from Assad’s military, according to Reuters.

Gen. Salim Idris, … a 55-year-old German-trained electronics professor, was chosen earlier this month as chief of staff by several hundred commanders of rebel units meeting in Turkey
With the election of Idris and a 30-member military command center, Syria’s opposition hopes to transform largely autonomous groups of fighters into a unified force. The reorganization came after Syria’s political opposition won international recognition this month as the sole representative of the Syrian people.

Gloom and Doom.
Obama waited far too long to help the rebels.
He waited a year long and 40,000 dead to pass.
He might as well have given Al queda a Golden ticket into Syria with his inaction. In too late with too little.
It’s gonna get crazy very soon. Fingers crossed!
the only good thing certain is the death of Assad and scores of his goons. Even if we then have to take out the next set of goons, it is still the righteous path and I find it an extremely satisfying one.
Every time a dictator goes to Hell, an Angel gets it’s wings.
A ridiculous assertion!
that’s because the saudis fund them, and sent them, as they always have.
a red herring for public consumption to obfuscate the continuing relationship (which likely never ended) beteween sauds/jihadists/US. the money likely flows from the same sources.
Got to keep those saudi funded and controlled mercenaries busy.
