Sometimes crassness rather than gentility is needed to get the point across

By Ted Belman

Just as the GOP convention to nominate a candidate for President looms, David Suissa, President  of the Jewish Journal, counselled, Republicans must dump TrumpAnd why?

“What we’re seeing now is Trump becoming more and more Trumpish, a man so hypnotized by his own success that he can’t see himself unraveling (with a 70 percent disapproval rating). He can hire and fire advisers, but it won’t help, because he can’t help himself.

“If Trump pulls off a miracle and wins the White House, we will have an unhinged leader of the free world, intoxicated by his greatness, prone to even more recklessness. “

He argues that,

“Among the many fallouts of this cringe-inducing year is how Trump’s crassness has overshadowed some genuine grievances among his working-class voters. Many of them feel, rightfully, that the economic recovery has left them behind and the Washington establishment has ignored them.

“Some Trump voters also are tired of seeing their country getting ripped off, whether by a badly run war in Iraq that squandered $3 trillion, a badly negotiated nuclear deal that empowered a terror-sponsoring Iran, or unfair trade agreements that have cost American jobs.

“The great GOP tragedy of 2016 is that it was a vulgar and divisive circus clown who figured out how to tap into many of those grievances.”

No, his crassness has highlighted these grievances rather than “overshadowed” them. Without his cringe inducing statements, Republicans may not have risen to the occasion and recognized them. Some people need a slap in the face to wake up to reality. Trump served that purpose like no other.  That’s why he won.

Suissa leaves out another accomplishment of Trump’s cringe inducing statements, namely the severing of the bonds of political correction. In his wake we are now free to tell the truth.  Previously these bonds were so tight and supported by so many, that very few had the courage to say that the emperor had no clothes. Few were prepared to be labeled  ”racist”, whatever that means today,  and to be outcast from polite society as is presently happening to Trump.

Not the least of which are the elites of the Republican Party.  Suissa lists some legitimate grievances but leaves out the grievances that lead Britain to reject the EU and arguable the most profound. That is the desire to take back their country from socialism, multiculturalism, open borders, bureaucracy and unbridled immigration, all of which the elites in the EU and the US embrace regardless of the will of the people. The GOP elites are not prepared to accept Trump’s position on such matters.  Thus the issue is not so much as who the GOP nominates, but whether the GOP’s policies will reflect the will of the people.

Trump said in his recent take down of Hilary Clinton, that

“Under her plan, we would admit hundreds of thousands of refugees from the most dangerous countries on Earth – with no way to screen who they are or what they believe.

“Already, hundreds of recent immigrants and their children have been convicted of terrorist activity inside the U.S.

“The father of the Orlando shooter was a Taliban supporter from Afghanistan, one of the most repressive anti-gay and anti-women regimes on Earth.

“I only want to admit people who share our values and love our people.

“Hillary Clinton wants to bring in people who believe women should be enslaved and gays put to death.”

He had recently been excoriated for supporting a temporary ban on Muslim immigration. Effectively he is saying the same thing here but is banning those who don’t “share our values and love our people” rather than those who are Muslims. Who can argue with this formulation.  Why should Americans import people who are anti-American or antisemitic or anti-gay or anti-democratic or subversive.  It is a deflection to limit the problem to weeding out those who want to do us physical harm.

Hilary Clinton is as crude and crass as they come by all reports. I’ll take Trump over Hilary any day.

  1. @ Dandaman:

“The Jewish Journal” is the child of the “Forward”. As you probably already know, no Jew live between the East and West Coast.

  2. Good points, Ted. I hear the words of Suissa from decent, intelligent Jews in the Gush. Suissa’s dissembling dominates reporting on Trump… even in the orthodox world.

As with most issues, the Jewish Establishment ‘Left’ & ‘Right’ (secular & observant) embraces dhimmitude, thinks only of the profits from lucrative deals with Saudis, US, etc.

They want to frighten Jews and elect someone who will maintain the ‘status quo’. They’re missing an opportunity to radically change our situation here. Instead of spreading fear & confusion, they should focus on informing Trump about our legal and historical claim to the land as defined in the 1922 Partition. And if it’s only money that concerns them, they should think about how a Trump Administration would dramatically expand construction in Yesha.

  3. Did someone say the “Jewish Journal?” Another pathetic Jewish newspaper that’s more liberal than Jewish.

  4. Suissa speaks of “an unhinged leader of the free world”. What does he think we have now and for the past 7-1/2 years? With another, conceivably worse threat looming in the “liar, liar, pantsuit on fire” candidacy, he chooses to scuttle the Trump nomination? G-d give us better Jewish “leaders”, and a pro-American values president with the moxie to challenge the failed subversive policies and attitudes that have brought America and much of that “free world” to the brink of disaster.

  5. David Suissa’s Article is even worse than Ted reports. Suissa received many scorching replies. Here is the link to the article http://www.jewishjournal.com/david_suissa/article/republicans_must_dump_trump

You might want to read it for yourself and respond: Here is Suissa’s e-mail

The Jewish Journal suppressed a majority of what I wrote which was a point by point refutation of what he stated and I elaborated on each point contrasting Clinton and Trump. I classified Donald Trump’s actions as being equivalent to jaywalking, while Hillary Clinton’s actions are equivalent to an axe murderer .

  6. Trump is like the kid in the famous children’s story (probably my favorite, even as a kid) who sees the naked king and points out the obvious – that the King has no clothes, while everyone else is too cowed to say it.

He points out that our politically correct emperor(s) – Obama and the leftist elites – are naked — they wear no pride or love of America or Western culture, nor do they wear any desire to defend it.

Until Trump came along, everyone was too cowed by the tyranny of the leftist elites to say it.

  7. Nice article Ted. Crude but true beats genteel but false. No more egg shells thanks to Trump- even if, hopefully not, he doesn’t win.
