  1. Several European countries Canadian provinces, and several American states have implemented similar measures to those adopted by Vietnam, but have nevertheless had many deaths. Deaths have been heavilit yconcentrated in a small number of “developed” countries in the Northern hemisphere. Also, countries in the Southern hemisphere which have summer when the Northern hemisphere has winter have had few casualties. Countries with warm climates all year around have had few deaths. That includes most “third world” countries. Clearly, COVID-19 is a seasonal illness associated with winter.

While Vietnam’s authoritarian government and a people with a long record of obeying rulers without question and enduring hardship, when told by their government that it was their duty to the nation, would have even fewer casualties than other countries with warm weather all year around. But even countries with less repressive governments and less obedient people but warm weather all year around, such as Taiwan, most African countries, India, Pakistan, Bengladesh, and the Philippines, have had far less deaths than countries where there was winter between January and the end of March.

  2. Vietnam has reported zero deaths from the virus. It stopped all people coming in from China. Complete closure and strict regiment.

Vietnam – a developing country that has a large land border with China and a population of 97 million people – has not reported a single death from coronavirus. As of April 21, the country had reported 268 cases of COVID-19, the disease associated with the new coronavirus, with more than 140 people making a full recovery.

The reason why Vietnam has managed to keep patients from death’s door is down to a three-pronged government strategy. While these policy choices may not all be consistent with upholding civil liberties, they are proving essential to keeping the pandemic at bay.

  3. @ Bear Klein:
Hi, Bear. I’m not surprised that we keep on learning new things about this brand-new bug. All the articles about scientists who allegedly have come upon know-it-all epiphanies really irk me. In my opinion, this thing is deadly, and should be dealt with cautiously.

  4. They are now finding that young people HEALTHY previously are dying from strokes caused by Covid-19. This is people in their 30s or 40s. Covid-19 is not just another flu. Stroke victims are typically people in their 70s.

At Mount Sinai, the largest medical system in New York City, physician-researcher J Mocco said the number of patients coming in with large blood blockages in their brains doubled during the three weeks of the COVID-19 surge to more than 32, even as the number of other emergencies fell. More than half of them were COVID-19 positive.

It isn’t just the number of patients that was unusual. The first wave of the pandemic has hit the elderly and those with heart disease, diabetes, obesity or other preexisting conditions disproportionately. The COVID-19 patients treated for stroke at Mount Sinai were younger and mostly without risk factors.
