Tamir Hayman Discusses the War that Went Awry

Tamir Hayman, who previously served as chief of Israeli Military Intelligence and is currently the director of the Institute for National Security Studies, summarizes what is being reported in the news about the attempt to bring down the Iranian regime and how the current operation came about.  In doing so, he notes that Israel was caught unaware when Trump announced he was coming to help the Iranian protestors.  From there he explains the story relating the intended use of the Kurdish forces in toppling the regime in Tehran, and the use of the notorious Ahmadinejad to lead the regime into capitulating to a transfer of power from the Islamists.

With regards to the story related to the intended involvement of the Kurds in the war, this has been confirmed but it does seem a bit uncertain if the Kurds alone might have been capable of bringing down the IRGC on its own.  Perhaps the Baluchis and Azweris could also have been used to support the overthrow of the Iranian regime if the Kurds alone were not able to do so  alone, but due to a rather timely leak, the plot with the Kurds was given no chance to mature due to the Trump administration’s pro Turkey policy.  It is interesting that the leak took place just two weeks before Joe Kent resigned amid his objections to Trump’s anti Iran policies, and subsequently it was revealed that he was being investigated for leaking classified material.  Was this relevant to the canceling of the Kurdish involvement in the war? Whatever the source of the leak about the Kurds, it resulted in the Americans ending the only Trump card which might have had any chance of achieving regime change in Iran.

Related to the tale being told about Ahmadinejad, this report comes solely from the NYT and has not yet been confirmed as valid.  It seems a bit incredible to believe that Ahmadinejad would have been successful in gaining the leadership of the Iranian regime while also shifting towards transferring control to the infidel Westerners when he would have had such men as Vahadi at his back.
