According to explosive reports emerging from Washington, American officials believed Iran posed a credible threat to assassinate President Trump and endanger Air Force One as he prepared to leave last month’s NATO summit in Ankara.
And the details are chilling.
Iranian intelligence reportedly knew extraordinarily precise information about Trump’s whereabouts, including where he was staying and even the floor of his hotel.
Even more disturbing, U.S. intelligence reportedly had information concerning a man armed with a shoulder-fired surface-to-air missile near Ankara.
The threat was taken so seriously that an extraordinary deception operation was reportedly undertaken to get the President of the United States safely out of Turkey.
Trump publicly boarded Air Force One.
But he didn’t leave on it.
Instead, according to reports, he was secretly moved across the airport concealed in a catering vehicle and transferred to a smaller military aircraft while Air Force One effectively served as a decoy.
And according to Israeli reporting citing American officials, Israeli intelligence provided crucial warning concerning the Iranian threat that helped trigger the operation to protect President Trump.
Think about that for a moment.
The Jewish state that is constantly lectured by the international community about how we should defend ourselves may have provided intelligence that helped protect the life of the President of the United States from the very evil Islamic jihadi regime of Iran that Israel has been warning the world about for decades.
I hope President Trump understands the enormous significance of what just happened.
Because this isn’t only about Iran.
It should also force Washington to reconsider something else:
Turkey under Recep Tayyip Erdogan is no longer behaving like the dependable Western ally Washington continues to pretend it is. Even more disturbing, some reports have raised the possibility that the extraordinarily detailed intelligence Iran possessed about President Trump’s movements in Ankara originated from Turkish sources. If substantiated, that would raise extraordinarily serious questions about the security of Trump’s America relationship with Erdogan’s Turkey.
President Trump repeatedly refers to Erdogan with extraordinary warmth and respect.
I understand diplomacy.
I understand that Turkey is a NATO member.
I understand that presidents sometimes have to maintain relationships with leaders they fundamentally disagree with.
But there comes a point when diplomatic pragmatism becomes strategic blindness.
Erdogan’s Turkey is a Muslim Brotherhood entity.
He has spent years cultivating relations with Hamas.
Hamas officials have been welcomed in Turkey.
Erdogan has publicly defended Hamas and rejected the characterization of it as simply a terrorist organization.
His government has positioned itself as one of the loudest international champions of the anti-Israel Palestinian cause while repeatedly attacking Israel rhetorically, stating clearly their intent to conquer Jerusalem.
Iran’s Shiite jihad Islamic regime and the Sunni Muslim Brotherhood jihadist are two different movements with the same goal, to conquer and persecute all non-Muslims all over the world, including Israel and America.
America cannot afford to ignore that reality simply because Erdo?a smiles for the cameras, belongs to NATO and knows how to flatter President Trump.
For decades Israel has been telling the Western world:
The jihadi Muslims aren’t coming only for us.
Israel is simply on the front line.
Iran doesn’t chant only “Death to Israel.”
It chants “Death to America.”
That isn’t Israeli propaganda.
Those are their words.
October 7 wasn’t merely another chapter in an Israeli-Arab territorial dispute.
It showed the world what jihadist ideology looks like when terrorists are given the opportunity to implement it.
And now, according to these reports, Iranian intelligence was allegedly tracking the President of the United States with frightening precision while an apparent surface-to-air missile threat was being investigated nearby.
Suddenly this isn’t theoretical.
Suddenly the target wasn’t an Israeli prime minister.
It wasn’t an IDF commander.
It wasn’t an Israeli family living near Gaza.
It was President Donald Trump.
And Who Reportedly Helped Warn America?
Israel.
That should matter.
Not because America “owes” Israel obedience.
That isn’t how alliances should work.
It matters because this episode demonstrates something far more fundamental:
American and Israeli security interests overlap because we are confronting many of the same enemies.
Israel’s intelligence services spend every day penetrating terrorist organizations and hostile regimes that threaten not only Israelis but Americans and other Westerners.
Israeli soldiers confront those forces physically.
Israeli families live on the front line.
We know these enemies because we don’t have the luxury of misunderstanding them.
When Israel warns America about Iran, Hamas, Hezbollah or other jihadist movements, we aren’t trying to drag America into our war.
We are warning our friends about our shared jihadi Muslim enemy.
Which Makes Trump’s Turkey Policy Even More Troubling
This is also why Trump’s Gaza peace plan is so troubling. Trump’s new 15-point Gaza implementation roadmap was developed with the involvement of Qatar and Turkey.
Stop and think about that.
Israel fought Hamas for years.
Israeli soldiers died fighting Hamas.
Israeli families were slaughtered by Hamas.
Our hostages were dragged into Hamas tunnels.
And now governments that support Hamas are being given significant diplomatic roles in designing what comes next in Gaza?
How can that possibly make sense? It doesn’t.
Would President Trump entrust America’s security to countries maintaining intimate relationships with America’s enemies?
Of course not.
Neither should Israel.
President Trump has done historic things for Israel.
Moving the American embassy to Jerusalem.
Recognizing Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights.
Standing against Iran.
Supporting Israel at moments when much of the Western world turned against us.
And helping bring Israeli hostages home.
Those things matter enormously.
Which is precisely why I hope this frightening episode in Turkey becomes another historic turning point.
President Trump should look carefully at the people around him and ask:
Who actually stands with America?
Who shares intelligence that can save American lives?
Who fights the same terrorist networks threatening Americans?
Who celebrates America and who chants for its destruction?
And who embraces organizations committed to destroying America’s closest Middle Eastern ally?
The answers are becoming increasingly difficult to ignore.
Israel Is America’s Ally. Jihadi Islam Is America’s Enemy.
Israel doesn’t need America to fight Israel’s wars.
We need America to allow Israel to win them.
Let Israel finish the job and dismantle Hamas. No international force has either the ability or the willingness to do it.
Let Israel dismantle the jihadist infrastructure in Gaza.
Let Israel be the victor that keeps the spoils and remain in Gaza forever, as no other power will prevent the rearming of jihadi terrorists in Gaza.
Let Israel destroy Hezbollah.
Let Israel dismantle the jihadist infrastructure in Lebanon.
The Lebanese government has proven over decades that it neither has the ability or the willingness to do it.
Let Israel be the victor that keeps the spoils and remain in Southern Lebanon forever, as no other power will prevent the rearming of jihadi Hezbollah terrorists in Lebanon.
Let Israel prevent Iran from rebuilding the terrorist armies it constructed around us.
Stop empowering Qatar and Turkey to determine Gaza’s future.
Stop pretending governments aligned ideologically or politically with jihadist Islamist movements can simultaneously serve as neutral arbiters between Israel and those seeking Israel’s destruction.
And recognize Erdogan’s Turkey for what it has become, an enemy waiting to fill the vacuum of a weakened jihadist Shiite Iran, not the unquestioned, dependable strategic friend its NATO membership might suggest.
The United States must reassess that relationship accordingly.
Because the attempted targeting of an American president, if the intelligence is ultimately confirmed in full, isn’t simply another Middle Eastern intrigue.
It is a warning.
Israel has spent decades warning the free world that jihadi Muslims mean what they say.
First they come for Israel, the Saturday people.
Then they go after the Sunday people and everyone else.
Eventually, jihadis come for all non-Muslims, as Mohammad modeled for them in the Quran.
This time, according to the reports, Israeli intelligence may have helped keep America’s president alive.
Mr. President, remember who warned you.
Remember who stood beside America.
Remember who your real allies are.
And then build American Middle East policy accordingly.
Israel is not America’s problem in the Middle East.
Israel is America’s frontline ally against the forces that threaten us both.
