Meotti: “The Pope was Not a Friend of the Jews”

By Giulio Meotti, ISRAEL NATIONAL NEWS

Pope Benedict XVI just resigned and Israel’s chief rabbis have already lauded the relations the Pontifex cultivated with the State of Israel and the Jewish people.

The contrary is the case. The Pope has not been a friend of the Jewish people and he supported the world’s most important source of anti-Semitism: the Palestinianism.

The proof is in the Pope’s travel in Israel in 2009, when Benedict most went closely in touch with the Israelis.

The Vatican authorities avoided calling the “State of Israel” by name but preferred to use the empty denomination “Holy Land”. And the Pope presented the Arabs as “victims” and the Israelis as “oppressors”. It was clear from the Pope’s speeches in Bethlehem and its surroundings that the Catholic attitude to the Jewish people remains unchanged since the Second World War.

Benedict called the Palestinian Arabs “the people who have suffered so much”. Benedict told President Mahmoud Abbas that “the Holy See supports the right of your people to a sovereign Palestinian homeland in the land of your forefathers, secure and at peace with its neighbors, within internationally guaranteed borders”. After expressing clear support for the Palestinian state, the Pope added that “Palestinians like any other people, have a natural right to marry, to raise families, and to have access to work, education and health care,” hinting that the Israelis are not allowing poor Palestinians to marry and to have access to work, education, and medical care. Rather, the contrary is true.

Pope Benedict did not condemn Arab terrorism, but launched an appeal to young people: “Have the courage to resist any temptation you may feel to resort to acts of violence or terrorism.” His words “temptation for terrorism” hinted at the Vatican’s claim that Israeli policy is the root of Palestinian terrorism, while the truth is exactly the opposite.

Pope Benedict XVI’s message at the village of Al Aida, near Bethlehem, was meant to symbolize the Arab claim of the “right of return”, according to Fouad Twal, Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem. Benedict XVI attacked Israel’s security fence saying that “it is tragic to see that even today walls are erected” and later added that “walls can be brought down,” a clear incitation to violence.

The Pope made Israel responsible for the “the alarming decline in the Christian population of the Middle East, including Israel, through emigration.” Not only the Pope’s accusation is not corroborated by facts. But it ignores the Arab-Islamic grand plan to purge the Middle East of any Christian presence.

Pope Benedict XVI proclaimed the “land of the ancestors” of the Palestinian people and the State of Israel as defined by the Holocaust and facing a real people, aboriginal and native, heir of ancient Israel. This has been the frame of the entire Benedict’s course: piety on the Holocaust for the Jewish people and political sovereignty for the Arabs.

Why did the Pope visite a refugees’ camp if not to certify the Palestinian propaganda?

In his speech in the Palestinian territories, Benedict said: “May He blesses with peace the Palestinian people!”. At the Aida camp: “May God blesses his people with peace!”. In the Manger Square: “You, God’s chosen people in Bethlehem”. And to Palestinian president Abbas: “I invoke upon all the Palestinian people the blessings and protection of your heavenly Father”. Unfortunately, we didn’t hear the same blessings on the people of Israel. Pope Benedict’s words contained an encouragement to violence.

By praising the “right of return” of the refugees, the Pope was asking the disappearance of the State of Israel. The Pope expressed his “solidarity with all Palestinians who have no home and waiting to return to their homeland”. This is the best way to uphold the Palestinians in their plan to eradicate the Jewish State.

And how to find words of peace in the Pope’s condemnation of the “wall”? He said, “I saw the wall that intrudes into your territories, separating neighbors and dividing families. Although walls can easily be built, we know they do not last forever”.

Had the Pope forgotten that before the barrier Palestinian terrorism was rampant in the Israeli cities and Jews were slaughtered in the number of 2,000? Why did the Pope define the failure to commit terrorist acts as “courageous”, if not to assume implicitly understanding such a “temptation”?

The Pope said to the Palestinians: “Have the courage to resist any temptation you may feel to resort to violence or terrorism”. To condemn the blockade of Gaza, the Pope has shown the same selective memory about “the embargo to be lifted soon”. Not a word about Hamas and the 15.000 rockets that Israel received from that territory after it destroyed Gush Katif in 2005.

Moreover the Pope resorted to anti-Jewish theology when he said that “I have seen with anguish the situation of the refugees who like the Holy Family were obliged to leave their houses,” which recalls the Gospel of Matthew (2,13): ‘Get up, take the child and his mother and escape to Egypt…. Stay there until I tell you, for Herod is going to search for the child to kill him’”.

If the Israelis are like Herod, are the Palestinians the modern version of Jesus?

The Pope’s last most important political decision was that of granting an audience to Mahmoud Abbas. The Vatican should not have blessed the audience with overt political significance by accepting from the Palestinian leader the gift of a mosaic of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem, bearing the inscription that it was presented to him by “the President of the State of Palestine”. A few days later, the Pope’s official notes began referring to the “State of Palestine”.

In this day of revolution for the Catholic Church, the Israeli Jewish people didn’t lose a friend. They lost a contender.

  1. yamit82 Said:

13:8 And it shall come to pass, that in all the land, saith the Lord, two parts therein shall be cut off and die; but the third shall be left therein.

Isn’t it the land of Israel being referred to, not the nations of the earth or the earth or the families of the earth who are referred to differently? I always understood “the land” to refer to Israel
    yamit82 Said:

14:2 For I will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle; and the city shall be taken, and the houses rifled, and the women ravished; and half of the city shall go forth into captivity,

  2. @ Andrew:

The test for any real prophet is when we see their actual prophesy come to pass. We know that there were thousands of Jewish prophets that we no nothing about because the prophesy’s have already come to pass.

The next Pope could be the last because of wider circumstances such as a world calamitous event like war, like nuclear war like 2/3rds of humanity being destroyed as per Zachariah

    13:4 And it shall come to pass in that day, that the prophets shall be brought to shame every one through his vision, when he prophesieth; neither shall they wear a hairy mantle to deceive;

13:5 but he shall say: ‘I am no prophet, I am a tiller of the ground; for I have been made a bondman from my youth.’

13:6 And one shall say unto him: ‘What are these wounds between thy hands?’ Then he shall answer: ‘Those with which I was wounded in the house of my friends.’

13:7 Awake, O sword, against My shepherd, and against the man that is near unto Me, saith the Lord of hosts; smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered; and I will turn My hand upon the little ones.

13:8 And it shall come to pass, that in all the land, saith the Lord, two parts therein shall be cut off and die; but the third shall be left therein.

13:9 And I will bring the third part through the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will try them as gold is tried; they shall call on My name, and I will answer them; I will say: ‘It is My people’, and they shall say: ‘The the Lord is my God.’

14:1 Behold, a day of the Lord cometh, when thy spoil shall be divided in the midst of thee.

14:2 For I will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle; and the city shall be taken, and the houses rifled, and the women ravished; and half of the city shall go forth into captivity, but the residue of the people shall not be cut off from the city.

14:3 Then shall the Lord go forth, and fight against those nations, as when He fighteth in the day of battle.

14:4 And His feet shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem on the east, and the mount of Olives shall cleft in the midst thereof toward the east and toward the west, so that there shall be a very great valley; and half of the mountain shall remove toward the north, and half of it toward the south.

14:5 And ye shall flee to the valley of the mountains; for the valley of the mountains shall reach unto Azel; yea, ye shall flee, like as ye fled from before the earthquake in the days of Uzziah king of Judah; and the Lord my God shall come, and all the holy ones with Thee.

    14:6 And it shall come to pass in that day, that there shall not be light, but heavy clouds and thick;

14:7 And there shall be one day which shall be known as the Lord’S, not day, and not night; but it shall come to pass, that at evening time there shall be light.

14:8 And it shall come to pass in that day, that living waters shall go out from Jerusalem: half of them toward the eastern sea, and half of them toward the western sea; in summer and in winter shall it be.

14:9 And the Lord shall be King over all the earth; in that day shall the Lord be One, and His name one.

14:10 All the land shall be turned as the Arabah, from Geba to Rimmon south of Jerusalem; and she shall be lifted up, and inhabited in her place, from Benjamin’s gate unto the place of the first gate, unto the corner gate, and from the tower of Hananel unto the king’s winepresses.

14:11 And men shall dwell therein, and there shall be no more extermination; but Jerusalem shall dwell safely.

14:12 And this shall be the plague wherewith the Lord will smite all the peoples that have warred against Jerusalem: their flesh shall consume away while they stand upon their feet, and their eyes shall consume away in their sockets, and their tongue shall consume away in their mouth.

14:13 And it shall come to pass in that day, that a great tumult from the Lord shall be among them; and they shall lay hold every one on the hand of his neighbour, and his hand shall rise up against the hand of his neighbour.

14:14 And Judah also shall fight against Jerusalem; and the wealth of all the nations round about shall be gathered together, gold, and silver, and apparel, in great abundance.

14:15 And so shall be the plague of the horse, of the mule, of the camel, and of the ass, and of all the beasts that shall be in those camps, as this plague.

14:16 And it shall come to pass, that every one that is left of all the nations that came against Jerusalem shall go up from year to year to worship the King, the Lord of hosts, and to keep the feast of tabernacles.

14:17 And it shall be, that whoso of the families of the earth goeth not up unto Jerusalem to worship the King, the Lord of hosts, upon them there shall be no rain.

14:18 And if the family of Egypt go not up, and come not, they shall have no overflow; there shall be the plague, wherewith the Lord will smite the nations that go not up to keep the feast of tabernacles.

14:19 This shall be the punishment of Egypt, and the punishment of all the nations that go not up to keep the feast of tabernacles.

14:20 In that day shall there be upon the bells of the horses: HOLY UNTO THE the Lord; and the pots in the Lord’S house shall be like the basins before the altar.

14:21 Yea, every pot in Jerusalem and in Judah shall be holy unto the Lord of hosts; and all they that sacrifice shall come and take of them, and seethe therein; and in that day there shall be no more a trafficker in the house of the Lord of hosts.

  3. @ yamit82:

A 11th century Irish mystic who supposedly had s vision of the next 112 popes. He gave a description of each of the popes. The reign of the 112th ends in judgment and the destruction of Rome. The next pope is the 112. Malachy calls him Peter the Roman.

Not that I believe in any of this stuff.

  4. The catholic claim to ownership of Jewish Israel, Jerusalem, and palestine:

Christianity was invented by the Greeks, and for the first thousand years, the roman catholics played a minor role. But the Greeks began a permanent decline starting in 636, and were eventually decimated by the muslims, so that today, almost all the descendants of the fanatic, Jew-hating original greek christians, are now fanatic Jew-hating muslims.

Meantime, in Europe, rome passed through the Dark Ages and began to emerge into the Middle Ages. In step with this, the roman catholic pope became ever stronger. He broke decisively with the greek orthodox in 1054, and began to claim that the roman catholic church was the “true christianity”, and that the original christians, the greek orthodox, were heretics.

The catholic crusaders invaded Israel in 1099, and took complete control of the country, including every orthodox church and muslim mosque. They killed killed every Jew they could find in Jerusalem, Bethlehem and Hebron.

They replaced the greek orthodox patriarch of Jerusalem with a roman catholic latin patriarch. A minority of the native orthodox then converted to catholicism. Happily for the Jews, the muslims reconquered palestine in the 1200s and evicted the european catholics. The greek orthodox patriarch of Jerusalem returned, while the catholic patriarch, although he retained his title in name, actually lived back in Rome. The pope then assigned the Jew-hating franciscan monks to become the official catholic “Custodians of the Holy Land”, but who obviously had no actual power.

The muslims always favored the native greek orthodox, who became good little Jew-hating dhimmis. But eventually (as all muslim countries do), muslim Ottoman Turkey deteriorated, while the Jew-hating european catholics became stronger, as they moved form the Middle Ages to our modern times.

After 1847, the pope and the catholic countries of europe (led by France), forced the muslim Ottoman sultan to sell parts of palestine to the catholics, and to grant them permanent rights there. The Jew-hating latin patriarch of Jerusalem returned. (Jerusalem now has at least three patriarchs: greek orthodox, armenian orthodox, and roman catholic latin.)

So that brings us to the current situation. The catholics are a minority of the christians in Jewish Israel and muslim palestine, and most of them are descended from greek orthodox “arabs” who converted during the crusades. But of course, the catholics insist that they are the “true Jews, the true christians, and the true owners of all of Israel, and particularly of all of Jerusalem”.

  5. Must agree with Sir Meotti on this. When it comes to Israel and the Jewish people, the Euro-Catholics are a Jew hating lot, whose hate cannot even be contained no matter how much they bathe their private parts in holy water.

  6. The Vatican establishes diplomatic relations with Israel:

During World War Two, the pope never mentioned the Holocaust or the Jews (Hitler, Himmler, Goebbels, Heydrich, etc., were all catholics. No catholic nazi was ever excommunicated or refused burial in a catholic cemetery).

The popes opposed the creation of the State of Israel. They most desired that the catholics have it. They would accept it if the muslims had it; but they could not stand the idea that the despised christ-killers would have it. The popes made sure that Jerusalem was never officially included in the Jewish State, and they have never recognized Jewish possession of Jerusalem (either the western (non-arab) or eastern portions.

In 1993, the Vatican (the polish pope John Paul II) established diplomatic relations with Israel. Rabin (atheistic Labor Party) was the Israeli Prime Minister. Rabin also signed the oslo accords the same year. A religious Israeli Jew assassinated him two years later.

In the official text of the agreement, the Vatican frequently uses the terms “catholics” and “holy see”. Naturally, it never refers to the Jews, but only to something called the “State of Israel”, which is apparently the catholic equivalent of the term “the zionist entity”, used by the Jew-hating muslims.

Naturally, any Israeli delegation to the vatican must be composed solely of “Israelis”, with no non-Israeli Jews allowed. Naturally, the vatican ambassador to Israel (who has religious as well as diplomatic duties) has his embassy located in Tel Aviv, since the vatican still refuses to recognize any Jewish control of Jerusalem (the same as both Republican and Democrat America).

  7. Without hinting,I can say Signore Meotti is a friend of Israel and the Jewish people. Many of his essays deserve respect; this one deserves circumspect.
I prefer to think of Benedict 16 as A. Kleinberg wrote of him in Yediot Aharonot:
    (Ratzinger)

was the confidant of Pope John Paul II, and his immense theological authority was a critical aspect of the previous pope’s moves…. John Paul and Ratzinger buried once and for all not only the accusation of the Jews’ murdering the messiah, but the entire theological theory that the Christians replaced the Jews and are now the Chosen People and that the New Testament annuls the Old Testament.

Thanks to David Goldman, aka Spengler, for reminding this reader of Kleinberg, and for his commentary at pjmedia.

  8. ISRAEL SOLD JERUSALEM to the Vatican

The pope’s announcement of his resignation happened only days after the Vatican’s claws got officially dug into the sacred site of David’s Tomb in Jerusalem – courtesy of the Israeli govt.

Chief Rabbis Laud Pope’s Work to Fight Anti-Semitism

    http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/165137#.URob92flkfs
Israel’s chief rabbis respond to the surprise resignation of Pope Benedict XVI, say that he worked hard to fight anti-Semitism.

STUPID RABBIS: It would have been better to shut up and say NOTHING than to demean themselves and we Jews by spouting lies.

  10. The next best thing to a dead Jew hating Pope is one about to die and has resigned the post as has this ex Nazi and previous head of the Holy Office of the Inquisition, now called the Sacred Congregation for the Propagation of the Faith, that was headed by orthodoxy-czar Cardinal Josef Ratzinger, (Pope Benedict XVI).

It once again became responsible for dealing with the worldwide clergy abuse scandal, for John Paul transferred all those cases involving desecrating the Eucharist or buggering altar boys back to its jurisdiction once again. It still ferrets out errant priests, but until the recent round of crises, its chief interests seemed to be seeking out the theologically treacherous ones. For those who threaten the faith have always been considered a graver menace than those who endanger the bodies of believers.

The papal and Spanish “auto da fe” were important festive social occasions to demonstrate the full might of Catholic power as well as granting the condemned heretic a chance to show his or her mettle. Huge processions with much pomp and ceremony would be undertaken to the place of execution. If the heretic had escaped or was otherwise unavailable, a dummy would be burnt in his place.

The lucky ones were strangled before burning; those who were being used as a lesson, were not. Giordano Bruno, for instance, was burned alive in an iron mask that pierced his tongue so he couldn’t scream, and his agonized breath made it whistle. Afterwards, the remains of such infamous heretics would be scattered in the nearest river to prevent them from becoming relics.

The German Nazis had good teachers Mel Brooks´ Spanish Inquisition
