The Veto of the Useful Idiot: Civilizational Amnesia and the Architecture of Modern Illiteracy

PELONI:  Follow Harry Liberman as he examines the consequences of Leftist political ideology colliding with the conflicting dichotomy of economic reality and historical truth.  In doing so, he exposes how the modern radicalized Left is undermining the very institutions and freedoms under which it operates and which it claims to defend, while also demonstrating the need for a return to pragmatic realism so as to prevent its self-inflicted undoing.

The Useful Idiots of the New Left: How Populist Realism Is Saving Progressivism From Its Own Dialectical Suicide

The modern progressive movement is locked in a state of advanced philosophical auto-immunity, paralyzed by an ideological framework so detached from material reality that it actively orchestrates its own destruction. Across energy markets, historical precedents, and civic infrastructure, the contemporary left operates not on coherent structural analysis, but on a reactive emotionalism that systematically conflicts with its stated goals.

In a supreme historical irony, the pragmatic, populist realism championed by the Trump administration is not merely correcting the geopolitical course of the West—it is serving as an external stabilizer, saving the left from the logical, fatal conclusions of its own contradictions.

Nowhere is this cognitive dissonance more glaring than in the progressive approach to energy policy.

For a decade, the climate vanguard has demanded a rapid, punitive transition away from hydrocarbons, using state power to throttle fossil fuel infrastructure. Under the Biden administration, this took the form of immediate regulatory interventions: revoking the Houston Chronicle’s analysis of the Keystone XL pipeline permit and severely chilling capital investment through drilling moratoria on federal land.

According to both elementary market mechanics and the left’s own environmental doctrine, high retail energy prices are the intended feature, not a bug; suppressing supply forces prices up, disincentivizing consumption and artificially expediting the transition to wind, solar, and electric vehicles.

Yet, the moment the immutable laws of supply and demand manifested at the pump—spurred further by the Middle Eastern volatility disrupting the Strait of Hormuz shipping lanes—the left pivoted instantly to a posture of frantic political panic. They demand a zero-carbon utopia, yet violently recoil from the immediate, predictable economic costs required to achieve it.

It is a telling demonstration of economic illiteracy !

THE CURRENT FAKE NEWS MEDIA HEADLINES READ LIKE A BAD JOKE WITH CHRONIC AMNESIA

“Climate Scientists Stunned as Left Demands Immediate Return of Carbon Emissions to Keep Regular Unleaded Under $3.00”Gasoline Prices and Climate Policy, a mere 10% increase in fuel prices yields a significant drop in traffic congestion and slices millions of metric tons of \(CO_{2}\) from the atmosphere. Yet, the same political base that declares global warming a total civilizational emergency immediately experiences a collective amnesia when the laws of supply and demand actually force the drop in emissions they spent years demanding.

“Progressives Panic Over Rising Pump Prices, Forget They Spent Four Years Praying for the Death of the Internal Combustion Engine”cancellation of the Keystone XL pipeline permit on day one of the Biden administration. Mainstream media networks widely celebrated these initiatives as a bold war on carbon, but now cover the resulting unprecedented global fuel supply crunch as an unforeseen tragedy rather than the exact, calculated outcome of their own economic agenda.

Eco-Warriors Forced into Paired-Down Commutes, Furious Trump’s High Gas Prices Are Actually Doing What Their Protests Couldn’t”

Dallas Federal Reserve on Short-Run Price Elasticity confirms that higher prices at the pump successfully alter consumer behavior, with 81% of fuel reductions stemming from activists and everyday drivers simply choosing to drive fewer miles. Despite this proving that high prices achieve green transition milestones, partisan commentators treat current price spikes as a crisis rather than a victory for the environment.

The Great U-Turn: How High Gas Prices Went From ‘The Essential Price of Saving the Planet’ under Biden to ‘An Unforgivable Fascist Crisis’ under Trump”

$5.00 a gallon in June 2022, political commentators defended the surge as a necessary macroeconomic side effect of global events and green transitions. However, with national prices pushed back to painful averages of $4.36 a gallon due to geopolitical conflicts, media coverage has conveniently shifted the entire blame back to executive leadership, exposing a glaring double standard where market forces are only a valid excuse for one side of the aisle.

“Local Activist Who Marched for Total Oil Ban Now Sobbing in Prius Over the Absolute Audacity of $4.50 a Gallon”

International Energy Agency outlines a global energy security challenge that has restricted traffic and driven up global shipping costs, progressive consumers continue to experience intense sticker shock. The media’s portrayal shields these activists from their own logic: you cannot demand the total dismantling of Western oil production from inside your fortified castles, while expecting the affordable energy that fuels your comfortable lifestyle to remain completely unaffected.

This aimless ideological drift is perfectly personified by figures like Greta Thunberg, whose activism has devolved from a focused environmental campaign into an chaotic embrace of whatever cause offers the maximum amount of systemic disruption. As analysts at Forbes note regarding the tragedy of her activism, Thunberg has increasingly abandoned her primary climate agenda to chase highly incendiary geopolitical conflicts, pivoting toward aggressive anti-Israel and intersectional agitations.

Rather than working toward measurable ecological solutions, she now flits between global flashpoints, participating in rowdy rallies from Berlin to Brussels that frequently result in mass arrests for violent and propaganda-related offenses. This [d]evolution exposes a movement devoid of a positive, builder’s agenda.

When a climate icon values the theatrical hostility of international street protests over actual environmental preservation, it proves that the modern progressive figurehead is less interested in saving the planet than in jumping onto any bandwagon that promises to tear down existing institutional order. This myopia extends into a profound blindness toward historical parallels, where progressivism relies on highly volatile, contradictory political coalitions assembled under the artificial banner of intersectionality.

The left naively presumes that radical, illiberal factions share its ultimate vision of social liberation, disregarding the fundamental law that ideological totalitarians eventually purge their moderate sympathizers.

The historical precedent is absolute: during the 1979 Iranian Revolution, secular Marxist students and the communist Tudeh Party actively partnered with fundamentalist Islamists to overthrow the Pahlavi state. Once power was centralized, the Islamist regime turned on their “useful idiots,” outlawing the leftist organizations and systematically imprisoning and executing thousands of Marxists.

Today’s Western progressives routinely champion cultural and geopolitical forces that host zero tolerance for LGBTQ+ rights or democratic pluralism, marching in lockstep with their future executioners. This infantile, self-destructive impulse has mutated from a theoretical vulnerability into direct domestic anarchy.

Across the West, radical activists routinely protest institutional deficiencies by incinerating the exact public infrastructure meant to sustain them.  [with emphasis]

In the mass student riots gripping France, what began as localized grievances over classroom resources rapidly devolved into a lawless wave of arson, resulting in the damage or complete closure of hundreds of educational facilities nationwide. Activists claim to champion education and the disenfranchised while physically reducing their own schoolhouses to ash—a pathology that requires clinical psychological evaluation rather than serious political engagement.

Because progressive ideology fiercely rejects the foundational tenets of capitalism, its adherents remain blind to the core axiom of property rights theory: ownership breeds stewardship. A society that views public infrastructure as a transient, unearned commodity—treating its own institutions with the disregard of a reckless tenant rather than the care of an invested owner—will inevitably consume itself in a fit of nihilistic rage.

By enforcing a doctrine of energy independence, national sovereignty, and institutional accountability, the Trump administration provides a critical structural floor for Western civilization. Left entirely to its own devices, the progressive movement would successfully dissolve the very frameworks of capitalist wealth, constitutional safety, and individual liberty that grant them the luxury of dissent.

By anchoring the state in economic realism and raw geopolitical deterrence, current leadership is performing a vital civic rescue operation—intervening to stop a blind, hyper-ideological left from driving the vehicle of Western democracy off a cliff.

The contemporary progressive worldview functions under a psychological mechanism that can only be described as the “Useful Idiot’s Veto”—a reckless impulse to tear down the very domestic, economic, and geopolitical architecture that feeds, sustains, and protects Western society.

Safe within the borders of advanced democracies, modern radicals indulge in a luxury of dissent that is entirely subsidized by the capitalist systems they vilify. Yet, from energy infrastructure to Middle Eastern history, this movement operates on a foundation of profound historical and geographical illiteracy, wholly blind to the fact that the forces they champion would gladly orchestrate their total liquidation.

Nowhere is this civilizational blindness more terrifyingly clear than in the progressive defense of radical Middle Eastern regimes and proxy networks. Activists routinely march through Western capitals chanting slogans for regional liberation, utterly ignorant of the foundational history of the land they contest. To claim that the region is inherently non-Jewish requires a total deletion of historical reality: the very term Palestine was imposed as a colonial renaming mechanism by the European Roman Empire under Emperor Hadrian in the 2nd century CE, specifically designed to erase the indigenous connection of the Jewish people to Judea—a land explicitly named after its ethno-religious indigenous population.

In a supreme irony, Western progressives issue sanctimonious judgments about indigenous rights while standing on the historically occupied territories of America, Canada, and the remnants of the British Empire. They live as citizens of historically expansionist empires, enjoying the stability of Western rule of law, while pointing a moralizing finger at a Jewish  nation defending its ancient Judean  homeland.

This historical illiteracy is not merely an academic failure; it carries terminal real-world consequences.

The progressive left’s alignment with radical Islamist actors—epitomized by their apologetics for an increasingly weaponized, nuclear-capable Iranian state—mirrors the exact fatal miscalculation of the 1979 Iranian Revolution.

Just as the secular Marxists of Tehran mistakenly believed they could form a lasting coalition with fundamentalist clerics, today’s Western leftists believe their intersectional advocacy buys them immunity. In reality, a nuclear-armed theological autocracy would not hesitate to vaporize the very Western societies housing the secular, progressive agitators who currently defend them. To a fundamentalist Islamic regime, the secular left are not partners; they are merely temporary, dispensable tools.

This cyclical illiteracy will never end until the modern world forces its radical factions to finally grow up.

A mature society understands that you do not burn down the house that shelters you, nor do you hand matches to the arsonists outside the gate.

By rejecting historical distortion and enforcing absolute geopolitical realism, the current populist resurgence is doing the heavy lifting of maintaining civilizational boundaries. It stands as the last line of defense against an ideological movement determined to burn down its own inheritance.
