The View from Riyadh

Peloni:  Mike Doran and renowned Saudi expert, Bernard Haykel discuss the nationalist revolution taking form under MBS in Saudi Arabia as well as MBS’ vision of modernization and diversification of his nation’s society as he anticipates the Saudi Kingdom becoming the linking hub of the region with Asia, Africa, Europe and America while carefully navigating the dilemmas of doing so.  They also discuss MBS’ preference to deal with the US while dealing with the political swings of internal US polarization.  Additionally, they discuss the Saudi desire for the US dealing with the threat from Iran but only to the point that Iran won’t carry out any response on Saudi interests.

  1. Iran threatened Saudi Arabia directly with inter ballistic missiles if it feels existentially threatened, and if it loses its nukes, its hold on power will be crippled and now defences are feverishly being built for Saudi oil facilities and cities, and if MBS fails to modernize, the Jihadists will seize power, according to this, and that will scuttle non-terrorist trade route vision for future.. Who is constructing these defences. U.S.? Timeline? He also said Trump wants another trillion in Saudi investment in the U.S. And MBS said no, they don’t have enough money because he needs to modernize SA.

Truly a rubik’s cube puzzle for Trump.

Iran’s nukes need to be taken out now. This is like a car heading toward a cliff.

Needs the kind of thinking outside the box Bibi showed with the 3 part pager mission or how Trump defeated Isis and crippled Iran’s terror axis taking out Soleimani in his first term.

Like the game of Jenga. Remove the right block and the structure falls.
