UAE, Jordan Slated to Resume Humanitarian Air Drops in Gaza

Peloni:  It is malicious subterfuge which sends supplies and aid to the terrorist Hamas in the guise of being humanitarian aid, particularly in the wake of Hamas having once again stymied the efforts of ongoing negotiations.  The greatest aid which might be afforded to the Gazans is for a quick and decisive victory by Israel over Hamas.  While the Gazan people are complicit in their own captured status under Hamas, as well as in the crimes of October 7, this war needs an end, and ending this war requires ending the transfer of international aid being sent to Hamas.

Latest Developments

  • Aid Drops to Resume: Jordan and the United Arab Emirates are reportedly set to resume humanitarian air drops into Gaza in coordination with the IDF. In 2024, the U.S. military, in coordination with Jordan, Egypt, and France, dropped tens of thousands of meals into northern Gaza, though malfunctions in the aid packages’ attached parachutes caused at least five Palestinian deaths.

  • UN Requests Hamas Protection for Aid Deliveries: In a briefing with international journalists, the IDF asserted that disagreements between Israel and the United Nations over the delivery of humanitarian supplies to Gaza via aid convoys stemmed in part from the United Nations’ refusal to accept Israeli security support. Instead, the IDF said that the United Nations had requested that the trucks be escorted by the so-called “blue police” in Gaza, a Hamas-controlled domestic police force.
  • UN Aid Distribution Resumes: The IDF’s unit for the Coordination of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT) reported on July 25 that the collection of aid trucks from border crossings in Gaza had resumed after several days of inactivity by UN-tied international humanitarian organizations. Despite the United Nations’ own warnings of widespread hunger in Gaza, the IDF stated on July 24 that over 800 truckloads of humanitarian aid had been sitting undelivered inside Gaza. “Only after significant pressure, did the UN and international aid organizations resume collection: within two days, over 270 trucks were collected from the Gazan side of Kerem Shalom and Zikim crossings,” COGAT stated.

FDD Expert Response

“While airdrops of humanitarian aid for Palestinians are a risky yet well-meaning effort, the dire situation in Gaza stems from Hamas and its allies’ decision to launch the October 2023 attack against Israel. Hamas’s ongoing refusal to agree to a ceasefire continues to prolong the suffering of Palestinian civilians, and the demand for humanitarian assistance is only expected to grow. This crisis is fueled by Hamas’s self-serving ambition to craft a narrative that it achieved total victory over Israel on the battlefield and in the ceasefire negotiations. It’s a strategy that has become a central obstacle in ceasefire negotiations and a key reason why aid remains urgently needed in the Gaza Strip.” Joe Truzman, Senior Research Analyst and Editor at FDD’s Long War Journal

“The United Nations keeps on finding new ways to demonstrate that it is morally bankrupt and in cahoots with the Hamas terrorist organization. While clamoring about famine in Gaza, UN bodies insist on Hamas providing security and let food stand undelivered rather than working with Israeli security to distribute aid to needy Palestinians. This comes as no surprise from a world body that has spent decades and billions of dollars to keep the Palestinians as victims in order to undermine the United Nations’ original sin of recognizing a Jewish state.” — David May, Research Manager and Senior Research Analyst
