US sanctions senior PA and PLO officials

Peloni:  US should recognize PA as a terrorists organization.  Sanctions are an important tool but the PA has always been a terrorist organization, even as it has been an American equity.  The purpose of the sanctions is to try to make this American equity less inclined to pursue its terrorist activities, but the reality is that the US should disown the PA entirely.

Text:

USA: Sanctions against senior officials in the Palestinian Authority and PLO members. The violations include initiating and supporting actions in international organizations that undermine and contradict previous commitments, including UN Security Council Resolutions 242 and 338, as well as attempts to bring the conflict with Israel to bodies such as the International Criminal Court (ICC) and the International Court of Justice (ICJ).

Continued support for terrorism – including incitement and glorification of violence (especially in textbooks) – and providing payments and benefits to Palestinian terrorists and their families also constitute serious violations.

The United States has decided to impose sanctions that prevent the issuance of visas to PLO members and senior officials in the Palestinian Authority.

Our national security interest is to impose consequences and hold the PLO and the Palestinian Authority accountable for failing to meet their commitments and for undermining the prospects for peace.
