Ya’alon introduces new punitive measures for ‘violent’ settlements

Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon orders military, police and Civil Administration to prioritize razing illegally built structures in Judea and Samaria outposts and settlements where residents are prone to violently clashing with security forces.

Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon has instructed Israel
Defense Forces commanders across Judea and Samaria to accelerate the razing of illegally built structures in settlements and outposts where security forces meet violence from extremists, Army Radio reported Wednesday.

According to the report, the order, which was given in a closed forum, extends to police and Civil Administration forces in the area as well.

Ya’alon had previously assured the High Court of Justice that any new structure illegally built in Judea and Samaria would be razed before it was inhabited. The order places structures in outposts the defense establishment defines as “violent” at risk of immediate demolition.

The settlers’ leaders have been briefed on the policy in a recent meeting held between them and senior IDF officials. GOC Central Command Maj. Gen. Nitzan Alon had met with the settlers’ leaders ahead of Passover, following the violent clashes that took place in Yitzhar two weeks ago, and informed them that enforcing the order would become a priority wherever settlers harm security forces.

According to the report, Ya’alon’s new policy further seeks to back a recent decision by the Civil Administration to raze the illegally built home of a known right-wing activist in the Kida outpost, in the Binyamin region, after Civil Administration officers encountered violence by the outpost’s settlers.

The policy was already being implemented on the ground, and the demolition of an illegal building in Yitzhar following the vandalizing of Samaria Brigade Commander Col. Yoav Yarom’s car had, in fact, been the catalyst for the violent clash between the settlement’s residents and security forces.

Army Radio noted that the Defense Ministry was unavailable for comment.

  1. @ BethesdaDog: You are not correct about the settlements being illegal. Some units maybe were not built to code but as to the illegality you are in error. In any case that should be subject to proceedings of a civil legal nature as elsewhere in Israel.

Israeli civil law needs to applied to all Jewish Towns. Military being police and judge is not being free. This type of action is not healthy for a supposed free society. Free in Haifa but not in Beit El. This is ridiculous to put it mildly.

Perhaps the civil law will apply to legal settlements. Remember, these are illegal settlements. My heart is with the rest of you who have commented, my head is with doing what’s right if the settlements are not in accordance with the law. This is a difficult situation and yes, the policy should be enforced against illegal Arab settlements (for which Israel has already taken a lot of unjustified heat from outside the country for doing what is right to illegal Arab construction.)

I see no mention of illegal arab construction so it is obviously a revenge against the settlers to be only carried out against the Jews.

    why limited government

But unfortunately it does not remain limited. ” The tree of liberty must be watered from time to time with the blood of patriots”. T. Jefferson

  5. If people break the law, have the police investigate, have the prosecutor review the findings and if reasonable cause of a crime is found to have been committed, have the accused tried before a judge. This treatment of Jews extra judicially because the settlements are not in annexed Israeli territory is compounding problems not solving them!

  6. In all honesty, what else can anyone expect from a fellow that hails from the far left wing of the kibbutz movement? That element may wear a veneer cover for a while, but eventually the filth will come out in the open. We have warned for lon about what the Oslo process” was all about and it was never about peace but about using Islamic proxies to destroy the Jewish core and Heritage. Expecting that the unJews will deal equally against Jews and Arabs is self deceiving. The unJews “partners” are the Islamic beasts, not the Jews.
Never have been, never will be.
