13 European states call on Israel to halt plans for 3,000 settlement homes

T. Belman. I fail to see what if anything the US and the EU are doing for us. First of all they refer to Judea and Samaria as Occupied Palestinian Territory. That goes way beyond their catch phrase “disputed territory” which is itself misleading. Just because its “disputed”, it doesn’t mean that those disputing have any legal or factual claims to back it up.

Their chief function is to restrain us.
  • They favour the JCPOA which permits Iran to get the bomb.
  • They are against Israel settlement expansion.
  • They back the division of Jerusalem by backing the Palestinian Consulate in Jerusalem.
  • They prevent Israel from erradicating Hamas.
  • They allowed Hezbollah to acquire 150,000 missiles and allow Hamas to rearm
  • They finance the illegal construction of Palestinian homes in Area C
  • They finance all manner of anti-israel NGO’s
  • They are leveraging the Abrahamic Accords to force more concessions from Israel.
  • In short, they work against Israel rather than for/with Israel.
A day after US rebuke, UK, France and Germany are among countries saying Israel should ‘immediately’ scrap project

A group of 12 countries on Thursday collectively urged Israel to scrap plans for the construction of more than 3,000 settler homes in the West Bank. The United Kingdom separately issued a similar statement urging Israel to reverse plans for fresh settlement construction.

A day after the US criticized the plan, France, Germany, Belgium, Denmark, Spain, Finland, Ireland, Italy, Norway, the Netherlands, Poland and Sweden said in a joint statement that Israel should cancel its decision to build in the settlements.

“We urge the Government of Israel to reverse its decision to advance plans for the construction of around 3,000 settlement units in the West Bank,” the foreign ministries of the 12 said.

“We reiterate our strong opposition to its policy of settlement expansion across the Occupied Palestinian Territories, which violates international law and undermines efforts for the two-state solution,” they said.

In its own statement, the UK said settlements “are illegal under international law and present an obstacle to peace and stability.” It urged Jerusalem to reverse its decision.

Israel on Wednesday made fresh moves towards building the settler homes in the West Bank, a move also condemned by the Palestinians.

The Civil Administration’s high planning committee gave final approval to 1,800 homes and initial endorsement for another 1,344, according to a spokesman for the military body that oversees civilian matters in the Palestinian territories.

The approvals came a day after Washington criticized Israel for its policy of building settlements, with US President Joe Biden’s administration saying it “strongly” opposed new construction in the West Bank.

On Tuesday, the US State Department said it was “deeply concerned” about Israel’s plans to advance new settlement homes, including many deep inside the West Bank.

“We strongly oppose the expansion of settlements, which is completely inconsistent with efforts to lower tensions and to ensure calm and damages the prospects for a two-state solution,” State Department spokesman Ned Price told reporters in Washington.

Last week, after the high planning subcommittee published its agenda for its upcoming session, the United States Embassy in Jerusalem’s chargé d’affaires Michael Ratney called Prime Minister Naftali Bennett’s senior foreign policy adviser Shimrit Meir to voice his opposition, an Israeli official confirmed to The Times of Israel on Tuesday.

The two had a “difficult” conversation, the Axios news site reported, with Ratney taking particular issue over the fact that many of the projects are located deep in the West Bank, further complicating US efforts to promote a two-state solution.

The Israeli official told The Times of Israel that the sides indeed have disagreements over the issue of settlements, but they disputed Axios’s characterization of the call.

Several countries have also criticized Israel’s designation of six leading Palestinian civil society groups as outlawed terrorist organizations

Israel said its decision last week was due to their alleged financing of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP).

It accused the six of working covertly with the leftist terror group, which pioneered plane hijackings in the 1970s to highlight the Palestinian cause and is blacklisted by several Western governments.

However, it has yet to provide public proof of those assertions.

“We are very concerned by the Israeli decision,” a German foreign ministry spokeswoman told reporters on Wednesday, saying that the groups’ placement on a terror list would have “broad political, legal and financial implications” for them.

A day earlier, France voiced “concern” over the decision. “France reiterates its devotion to the vital role that civil society plays in democratic life,” a spokesperson for France’s foreign ministry said in a statement. “We request clarifications from the Israeli authorities.”

The US has also voiced concern and said it wants more information from Israel.

  1. We have all heard, over and over, that these so-called democracies in the west, call on Israel to stop building illegal settlements in Judea and Samaria. We have all heard, over and over, that Israel claims that these settlements are quite legal. We have also taken note that all of these so-called democracies in the west have been supporting the building and annexation of parts of Area C by the Palestinians which is 100% und Israeli control as agreed upon in the Oslo accords.
There was an article posted a few years ago that explained why Israel doesn’t back up its claims before the International Human Rights Court in the Hague. In short, it told that Israel will not do that because:
    1. It would be agreeing to allow the court to decide on Israel’s foreign and domestic policies.
    2. Israel could only dream of getting a just judgement from a court which calls on anti-semites from all over the world to examine, for example, Israeli activities when under attack from Gaza or Lebanon, not to speak of the constant Iranian threats to bomb Israel and the holy land out of existence. It would be typical to have a judiciary panel made up of “democratic” judges from the Netherlands, Sweden and Iran to decide the outcome.
In short, Israel wouldn’t stand a chance in the IHC.
So, the only option left is to rebuke these calls to commit suicide and ignore them as best we can.
The only good thing we can see at the moment is that the (very splitterred) Israeli government still has enough intestinal fortitude to refuse these obnoxious calls. That seems to be more than Bibi was able to do.

  2. ‘Occupied Palestinian territories’ is it? Of course it is and of course the European countries are right. The Palestinians ( an identity invented by the KGB in the 1960’s) are occupying the Jewish lands of Judea and Samaria. And they should get out– while the getting is good. The Israeli state should move to re-establish its legitimate authority over the remaining Jewish lands. Perhaps, at the same time, the Israeli government should invite these same countries with such tender consciences for illegal occupiers to join with it in condemning — let’s say– China for occupying Tibet or mistreating its Moslem minorities. Just a modest proposal. Alas, we know what the result of such an invitation would be.

  3. A nation whose sovereign agenda is dictated by foreign powers is less than a nation, just as a man whose rights and authorities are dictated by his neighbor is less than his neighbor. This adaptive nature by the Jewish State has been allowed to such an extent that her ‘allies’ feel at ease coercing judicial judgements to suit their own world view. Israel needs to demonstrate her willingness and ability to withstand such international pressures and ignore the threats while pursing her own interests. No to a divided Jerusalem and the Arab consulate. No to the Settlement building cancellation. No to a nuclear Iran. These ‘allied’ nations, just as each of our own neighbors, have their own agenda in mind. Israel needs to seek to secure the future of her own people as sacrosanct above the good will with her close ‘allies’ which would claim far too great a price. She should not do so as a point of belligerence, and it would be best, perhaps, if Lapid were inspecting some ridge somewhere else while it was completed, but it must be done.

  4. Bailey,
What makes you think that Western Europe is Democratic?
Really it is very soft autocracies that manipulate their people from behind the scenes & call it Democracy.
The above Democracies that are owned the NWO which is really the European Old World Order in New suits.
    & they hate Jews.
The Jews have that quaint idea that ”All mankind was created in God’s image.
All people are created equal. This doesn’t go well with the Elites & Aristocrats.
In short, the high & mighty European elites are the secular inheritors of classic
‘Replacement Theology & a successful prosperous Israel is not what they want!

  5. Question:
How many democratic countries can you name that have their domestic policies examined and regularly criticised by other democratic nations?

    Answer:
    only one; ISRAEL!

  6. Israel is a sovereign county. No disgusting liars from USA or Europe will dictate Israel what they can do or not.
