Peloni: This was anticipated following the signing of the recent gas deal as well as the recent sale of Arrow 3 systems to Europe. Importantly, this will solve some of Israel’s dependence on the US arms, but as Netanyahu indicates, not all of it. The long term arrangement with the US which is actually mischaracterized as aid has had an unhealthy effect upon both the US and Israel, making the former more demanding and the latter too conciliating. A return of respect and distance is required in this relationship, and this will likely lead to achieving both of these goals, though again, not completely.

Let’s not sell Israel under price. Sure, there are 3 big ones but some of those can be achieved by other means.
Israel could in theory make all of them or buy them elsewhere.
The easist to build/buy would be in this order:
Helcicopters – many other countries make these
Submarines – Korea and Japan make good diesel subs
Fixed wing aircraft – few countries make these and may not be reliable suppliers
Israel used to make their own fighter jets. The Swedish Gripen might be the type of fighter they could make and it’s fairly good one. It’s a gen 4.5 vs the F-35 that is 5.0 and the new Boing F47 is Gen 6.0
Possibly these platforms are what Netanyahu had in mind. Just not sure how far $110 billion goes over ten years.
Three Big Ones – Israel buys
Fixed Wing Aircraft – US
Helicopters – US
Submarines -Germany
All the rest can be made locally pretty much even if these are presently outsourced.
