Peloni: While these new sanctions being placed on Iran are welcome news, the question remains why these sanctions relating to the teapot refineries were not employed previously as calls for exactly this level of ‘maximum pressure’ had gone unfulfilled til now. Notably, the teapot refineries provided a key work around for US sanctions due to the fact that this level of sanction policy had not previously been pursued, making their current enactment a decidedly significant change in Trump’s maximum pressure campaign.
