Peloni: Well, we’ll see if this prediction about Amb. Tom Barrack proves prophetic. Trump has surrounded himself with people that he feels he can trust, so it is reasonable to conclude that Barrack’s fate lies in the balance of Trump’s trust in him being shaken. Many like to assume that Trump is controlled by the last person who spoke to him or spoke for him, but I find that this is far from a fair assessment of Trump’s competence and character. So, despite the Barrack’s obtusely pro Turkish comments, he has held Trump’s confidence over the past two years while holding obtusely pro Turkish positions. His most recent overstep clearly crossed the line, and this is evident with him having found himself having to restate his comments and then being recalled to Washington in any event. So time will tell if we have seen the last of Tom Barrack in his current role, but the pro-Turkey policy which has been pronounced over the past two years is not likely to change even if the US Ambassador to Turkey does.
