We move on to THE PROCESS and the Meat on the Bone from Part I and II…this being a paean to the day after LABOR DAY. Because labor and ambition, and not the idle, create everything of value.
We answer questions rarely posed or answered:
Does consumerism make people happy? Consider the Soviet Block during the fifties through the eighties. All the people wanted were consumer goods. All the people got were promises of a better health care system, more food on the shelves, cheaper energy, no toilet paper shortages. All the people were unhappy. Does that answer the question or do you see what I saw?
Who are the happier, the consumers or the producers of consumer goods? The answer is, it depends. This makes Marx’s and Engels’ econo-political analyses dead wrong; and the capitalists and neocons always right. Moreover, the producers usually, became wealthier. By becoming wealthier many became happier. In either case, both profited from the understanding that the alternative to prosperity is less attractive.
Chances are if you lean left, you were not born in Kenya like your former president. Chances are you also lack the American “will do”-“can do” explorer spirit, self-reliance, loyalty to your nation, and belief in your own abilities. Chances are you’ve failed taking responsibility for THE RESULTS of your personal failure Making the American Dream Come True for yourself.
Chances are you failed to heed the neocon JFK’s words and values: “Ask NOT, what your country can do for you. Ask what you can do for your country!”
That JFK summed up the entirety of the Jewish religion in two sentences is beside the point. Just substitute the words “mankind,” “family,” “community” and “duty & honor” for the word “country.”

Note the word “productiveness” as a component that leads to happiness. A productive man is happy because he also possesses the characteristic cited by Rand: Purpose and Integrity that makes him productive in the first place. A man with a purpose is productive. A productive man will get results. A man with integrity has self-esteem because his products constitute fair exchange of value for value. In other words, the productive man tends to be honest.
Learn to live with this fact my proto-socialist friends:
You always had the opportunity to become immensely wealthy, successful, productive, even famous, and happy. The evidence is that of immigrants who have. What is your excuse?
Your politics mean something, if not everything, although we might accept the fact that conservatives are naturally happier. We can also assume that if you didn’t like the contents of this essay (and PART I & II) that you are neither conservative, competitive, nor productive, nor rational, nor have you gotten the results you wanted. Because of that, likely you are not happy.
There is a solid REASON one can attribute for the outcome of your lives and the choices you made.

Genuine conservatives don’t resent the success of others. They don’t envy the sense of self, of pride, and the accomplishments of others.

Enraged, bitter and envious people, regardless of their politics or faith, are never happy, are they? Conversely, grateful people always are! Now why is that?
Productive businessmen will show gratitude.
