Flydubai Jihadi’s Mosque Was Taxpayer-Funded

And will likely continue to be.

Hamam al-Hammami, the Omani co-pilot who recently tried to crash a plane full of Israelis in a jihad suicide mission, apparently gained much of his understanding of Islam from a mosque in Melbourne, Australia. And that mosque, like so many others all over non-Muslim countries, receives public money from officials who fondly assume that it is packed full of “moderates” who teach the benign, cuddly, warm, peaceful, tolerant Islam that they assume exists. Despite this revelation of willful ignorance and blindness to the nature and magnitude on the part of the officials who are supposed to be protecting their people, that funding will almost certainly continue.

News24.com.au reported Sunday that al-Hammami “started a ‘drift towards extremism and terrorism’ while studying in Australia.” That “drift” took place at a mosque in Melbourne upon which Australian authorities lavished money: “the Albanese government gave more than $68,000 in taxpayer funding to a Melbourne Islamic centre linked to the accused Israel-bound flight attacker.”

This revelation comes from the United Arab Emirates, where al-Hammami is currently being held: “UAE Attorney-General Hamad Saif al Shamsi revealed that Mr al-Hammami had confessed he became acquainted with individuals associated with My Centre. GrantConnect records show My Centre – Multicultural Youth Centre Ltd – received federal funding under the Community Language Schools Grants Program.”

ABC.net.au reports that “Al Shamsi said during Mr Al-Hammami’s time in Melbourne, the suspect began ‘reading extremist literature and following online content glorifying terrorist organisations and suicide attacks.’”

The UAE provided information stating that when al-Hammami started going there, MyCentre “was managed by a Lebanese man known as Abu Hamza.” That is the kunya (a kind of nickname, usually referring to family relations; in this case, it means “Father of Hamza”) of the mosque’s head, Samir Mohtadi.

Mohtadi, however, insists that it’s lies, all lies. He “‘strongly rejected’ any connection between himself, the Multicultural Youth Centre and Mr Al-Hammami. ‘I have never met Al-Hammami, who has been referred to in recent media reports, and we have no record of him ever attending our centre. The relevant authorities should have verified these claims with me before releasing or publishing such information. Throughout my life, I have consistently preached peace. Both in my work and the work of the centre have always focused on promoting peace, harmony, mutual respect and community wellbeing. We unequivocally reject violence in all its forms.’”

Well, maybe. But Abu Hamza’s Qur’an says “Kill them wherever you find them” (2:191, 4:89, 4:91, cf. 9:5) as much as everyone else’s. His statement inspires a certain skepticism in light of the fact that it resembles the statements of many other Muslim leaders in the West who have insisted that Islam teaches peace even when they know it doesn’t. Abu Hamza may be being honest about not knowing al-Hammami, but his claim that he rejects violence in all its forms raises eyebrows.

Whatever may have happened, for a single mosque, the money MyCentre received from the government was substantial. “The initial grant of $36,960, identified as GA379577, was approved on March 19, 2024, and published on GrantConnect on June 11 that year. A subsequent variation, published on December 11, 2025, increased the grant by $31,176.20, giving it a new end date of December 19, 2028.”

News.com.au states that this money was meant to be used to discourage young Muslims from assimilating into Australian society: “The program, administered by the federal Department of Home Affairs, was intended to help young people learn or maintain languages other than English.”

Why not help them teach English? Wouldn’t that help ensure that these young people would adopt Australian values? Most likely, the program the brainchild of leftist multiculturalists who hope to dissolve the unity of Australian society in order to pave the way for the establishment of an authoritarian socialist state.

Another possibility is that Australian authorities are just being fooled. Non-Muslim authorities the world over assume that the vast majority of Muslims in their countries are “moderates,” and that if they give financial incentives to those “moderates,” all will be well and there will be no reason for jihad, which they think is a reaction to poverty. So these idiotic authorities end up paying for the jihad against themselves.

Jihadis, meanwhile, regard the self-destructive idiocy of non-Muslim authorities as the fulfillment of Qur’anic prophecy: “It is he who has caused those among the people of the book who disbelieved to go forth from their homes to the first exile. You did not think that they would go forth, while they thought that their strongholds would protect them from Allah. But Allah reached them from a place they did not expect, and cast terror in their hearts so that they ruined their houses with their own hands and the hands of the believers. So learn a lesson, O you who have eyes.” (Qur’an 59:2)

Is that a perspective Australian authorities are really wise to encourage?
