AFSI Urges US To Pursue Hamas Bomber Ahlam Tamimi After Arrest Of Venezuela’s Nicolas Maduro

Peloni:  Jordan is one of the greatest beneficiaries of US aid, and has received in excess of $33 billion since Ahlam Tamimi coordinated and celebrated the slaughter of the innocent people at a local restaurant.  The recurrent stream of politicians in Washington ring their hands and challenge the US State Dept and the Ambassador to Jordan on the issue of bringing this promoter of Jihadism and evil to justice in America for her crimes, and twenty five years later this Butcheress of Sbarro remains free, continuing to popularize her crimes, mock the dead, and defy any sense of justice for her continued support of Jihad and butchery, despite her being already indicted in the US and the US having significant and meaningful leverage over the Jordanian govt which is shielding her from prosecution.

Pro-Israel group says precedent set by Maduro arrest should apply to indicted terrorists who murdered Americans and evade justice abroad.

NEW YORK – Following the arrest of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, a prominent pro-Israel advocacy organization is calling on the United States to pursue other indicted individuals accused of murdering Americans who have evaded justice by residing in countries that refuse to extradite them.

Americans For A Safe Israel said the arrest of Maduro should serve as a precedent for decisive action against long-wanted terrorists, beginning with Hamas bomber Ahlam Tamimi, who has lived openly in Jordan for years despite an outstanding US arrest warrant.

AFSI is urging the Trump administration to demand Tamimi’s immediate apprehension and extradition to the United States. Tamimi was responsible for the 2001 Sbarro restaurant bombing in Jerusalem, one of the deadliest Hamas terror attacks of the Second Intifada.

“This August will mark 25 years since the Sbarro bombing in Jerusalem, when a Hamas homicide bomber entered the busy neighborhood restaurant and ended the lives of 16 innocent people, including eight children and a pregnant woman, and wounded over 120 individuals,” said Moshe Phillips, Chairman of Americans For A Safe Israel.

Phillips emphasized that the attack included the murder of American citizens. “Three US citizens were murdered in the terrorist attack. Two died on the day of the bombing: Malka Roth, just 15, and Shoshana Greenbaum, a 31 year old teacher and first time expectant mother. Chana Nachenberg died in May 2023 after lingering in a coma for 22 years.”

Tamimi, a Jordanian national and Hamas operative, was indicted by the United States in 2013 for her role in the attack. According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the indictment was initially kept secret under the Obama administration and only revealed publicly in 2017 during the first Trump administration. Tamimi has since been listed on the FBI’s Most Wanted Terrorists roster.

Despite the existence of a formal extradition treaty between the United States and Jordan, no American administration has formally demanded Tamimi’s extradition, AFSI said. Jordan has publicly refused to hand her over, and Tamimi has appeared regularly on Jordanian media outlets, openly praising the attack and expressing pride in her actions.

AFSI also highlighted what it described as a broader pattern of inaction by successive US administrations. Phillips noted that dozens of Palestinian Arab terrorists who murdered American citizens are currently living under the protection of the Palestinian Authority and its leader, Mahmoud Abbas. Some, he said, are even serving in Palestinian security forces.

“The US government has never pressed Abbas to hand them over for prosecution,” Phillips said.

Phillips argued that the arrest of Maduro demonstrates that political sensitivities should not override the pursuit of justice for American victims. “It’s tragic that many of our political leaders seem to care more about offending Jordan than prosecuting these killers of Americans,” he said.

“The precedent has been set with Maduro,” Phillips added. “Ahlam Tamimi must be apprehended so she can stand trial in an American court, just as Nicolas Maduro will.”

AFSI also issued a pointed call to the American Jewish community, urging communal leaders to advocate publicly for accountability. “What remains to be seen is what American Jewish leaders will do about this,” Phillips said. “The American Jewish community needs to speak out loudly and demand that murderers like Tamimi be brought to justice by whatever means necessary.”

The Sbarro bombing remains one of the most infamous terror attacks in Israeli history, both for its brutality and for Tamimi’s continued freedom. Families of the victims, including relatives of the American victims, have repeatedly appealed to US officials to act on the indictment.

Americans For A Safe Israel said it will continue to press US policymakers to enforce existing arrest warrants and extradition treaties, arguing that failure to do so undermines justice for American victims of terrorism and emboldens those who commit acts of mass murder.

Founded in 1970, Americans For A Safe Israel is one of the oldest pro-Israel organizations in the United States. The group describes its mission as countering anti-Israel propaganda and advocating for Israel’s security and for accountability for terrorism. It is not affiliated with any political party in either the United States or Israel.
