Arab States Reject President Trump’s Call to Join The Abraham Accords As Part Of Agreement With Iran…

Peloni:  It is important to grasp the importance of the Abraham Accords to Trump’s greater strategy.  In the 2026 National Security Strategy (NSS), Trump identified the relevance of multiple states working together with the Chinese against America.  It also referenced  the importance of American allies to share the burden of being able to enforce American interests in their relative regions.  With regards to the Middle East, this policy was acutely relevant as America intends to pivot towards Asia.  So the demand which Trump made regarding the Muslim nations joining the Abraham Accords (AA), while representing a tall ask, was an essential aspect of Trump’s regional policy as referenced in the NSS.  What is more is that the AA specifically promotes peace with the Muslim states as a priority over the pursuit of a second Pal state, and as the comments below indicate, this tall ask by Trump represents a bridge too far for the Muslim states.

Consider further that while Trump continues to ‘negotiate’ with the Iranians and states that he is in no hurry to actually end the war, his Gulf allies have been pressing him to both respond to the attacks against the attacks by Iran or to come to terms with Iran.  Trump’s response has been to declare a near endless patience in waiting for his terms to be met and recently noted that he is increasing the demands being required of Iran even as he plays a game of tit-for-tat with the Iranians.

So, the issue which seems relevant to all of this is the pressure being leveraged on Trump’s allies to accept his demands to join the AA by Trump’s patience with the Iranians.  Meanwhile, Trump is also continuing to pursue his ‘deal’ with the Iranians, such as it is, warts and all.  Hence, while the economic pressure on the Iranians is significant, so too is the ever looming threat to Trump’s Gulf allies who are constantly under facing the potential of their essential and sensitive infrastructure being targeted by Iranian attacks, and that includes their desalination plants as well as the oil infrastructure.  Consequently, while Iran sees the attacks on the Gulf states, Trump’s allies, as the means by which to push Trump to come to terms with them, they are actually bringing the best source of pressure on the Gulf States to agree to Trump’s demand for them to join the AA, which is exactly what Iran would find unforgivable.  Is this leverage over the Gulf States the real impetus for Trump’s recent announcement that he is increasing the demands from Iran as Gas prices rise at home with the US midterms in just a few months time?  Or perhaps it is simply a second tract of negotiations which Trump is requiring to be met before he capitulates to allowing the Iranian regime to remain in power under any terms.

Well, for the moment, Trump’s allies seem to have no interest in satisfying his demands regarding the AA…at least not yet.  As we are still waiting to see what the terms of Trump’s deal with the Iranians might include, a question presents itself as to whether part of what we are not being told about the negotiations Trump is pursuing is with his Arab partners as well as with the IRGC.

In a May 25, 2026 post on Truth Social, U.S. President Donald Trump wrote that, as part of the emerging agreement with Iran to end the war, he expected Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Pakistan, Turkey, and Egypt to join the Abraham Accords with Israel, and warned that failing to do so would demonstrate “bad intention” on their part.[1]

Two days later, he reiterated these remarks at the opening of a cabinet meeting, stating that if Saudi Arabia and Qatar did not join the Abraham Accords, he might not sign an agreement with Iran, and adding: “They owe us that.”[2]

Earlier, on May 24, U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham, a close associate of President Trump, had posted in a similar vein on his X account. [3]

None of the countries mentioned issued an official response to these statements. However, Trump’s and Graham’s remarks evidently generated embarrassment and anger, as reflected in a wave of critical commentary in the media directed both at their statements and at the Abraham Accords themselves.

In Saudi Arabia, an unnamed source clarified that the kingdom would normalize relations with Israel only as part of a clear and defined pathway toward the establishment of a Palestinian state. At the same time, articles in the Saudi state press criticized the Abraham Accords and even described them as “satanic normalization.”

In Qatar – which is the principal patron of Hamas and takes a confrontational and hostile line toward Israel – Trump’s remarks evoked particularly sharp reactions. The public discourse in the country included claims that Trump’s statements were intended to divert attention from his failure in the war against Iran, and that the purpose of the war itself was to reshape the region in accordance with Israeli interests. Journalists in Qatar attacked Trump and Graham personally, accusing them of arrogance, detachment from reality, and malice. One commentator even described the Abraham Accords as “a satanic deal.”

In addition, the International Union of Muslim Scholars (IUMS), which is based in Doha is supported by the Qatari regime, called for the categorical rejection of normalization with Israel. The union’s chairman argued that “any agreement founded upon disgrace will end in humiliation and ignominy.”

Egypt, which maintains a formal peace treaty with Israel alongside a longstanding popular boycott of this country, also refrained from issuing an official response. According to one report, Egyptian officials who had been briefed in advance on the U.S. to advance normalization with Israel made clear that no normalization at the popular level would be possible without a political settlement that includes the establishment of a Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital and clearly defined borders. Articles in Egypt’s state press criticized Trump’s remarks, stressing that the U.S. would not be able to impose its policies on the region.

The state press in Oman and Kuwait likewise published articles condemning normalization. In Oman, the Abraham Accords were described as a “despicable idea” and as “part of a great deception” aimed at reshaping the region for Israel’s benefit. An article in a Kuwaiti daily argued that the U.S. is no longer a reliable ally of the Gulf states and that Trump’s call for normalization with Israel reflected both his fickle and the alleged Zionist influence over him.

This report examines the reactions in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Egypt, Oman and Kuwait to the calls by President Trump and Senator Graham for normalization with Israel.

Saudi Arabia: No Normalization Without Guarantees For The Establishment Of A Palestinian State

As stated, Saudi Arabia issued no official response to Trump’s demand that it join the Abraham Accords as part of an agreement with Iran. However, Saudi sources, speaking off the record,  reiterated the longstanding Saudi position that progress toward normalization with Israel is contingent upon progress on the Palestinian issue. An unnamed Saudi source was quick to respond to Trump’s May 25 post, telling CNN Arabic on the very same day that Saudi Arabia would not normalize relations with Israel “without an irreversible path to an independent Palestinian state.”[4] According to the English-language daily Saudi Gazette, the source further stated that “any future agreement must include credible guarantees ensuring the implementation of the two-state solution.” The source stressed that Saudi Arabia’s position on the Palestinian issue remains unchanged and that ” Riyadh believes achieving peace and stability in the region hinges on finding a just and comprehensive settlement to the Palestinian question.” [5]

Editor Of Saudi Daily: The Abraham Accords Are Not Necessarily The Appropriate Framework For Peace With Israel, Which Remains Tied To Progress On The Palestinian Issue

In a May 25, 2026 article in the English-language Saudi daily Arab News – subsequently also published in Arabic on the website of the Saudi Al-Arabiya channel – the daily’s editor, Faisal Abbas, argued that resolving the Palestinian issue remains a prerequisite for peace with Israel, although not necessarily within the framework of the Abraham Accords. He wrote under the headline “Peace is Possible – But Israel Needs to Embrace a Two-State Solution”:

“… Saudi Arabia made that position clear during Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s visit to Washington in November. “We want to be part of the Abraham Accords, but we also want to be sure that we secure a clear path toward a two-state solution,” the crown prince told the press pool during an Oval Office meeting in the White House…

” For decades, Saudi Arabia has made it clear that it favors regional peace, security, connectivity and shared prosperity that must include both the Palestinians and the Israelis. This can be achieved. Now, would it necessarily happen as part of the Abraham Accords? I do not think so, and personally, the issue goes far beyond branding…

“The issue here is the lack of a serious partner in Israel that is willing to give peace a chance and support the two-state solution. If that condition is met, then I would not be saying anything new in proposing that Saudi Arabia would bring all its religious legitimacy, political weight and influence behind a grand deal that would hopefully see the region’s countries coexist and work together toward a shared future.”[6]

In his column in the Saudi state daily Al Riyadh, Saudi journalist Ali Bin Hamad Al-Khashiban criticized Trump’s linkage between an agreement with Iran and normalization with Israel, writing: “A leading state [like Saudi Arabia] will not yield to pressure and will not accept any formula for ending the war [with Iran] at the expense of a fundamental issue that has persisted for eight decades, so long as there is no pathway toward a Palestinian state. Saudi Arabia has long worked to advance this idea by political means, on the basis of the Arab Peace Initiative, which is founded on normalization in exchange for an end to the Israeli occupation of the territories occupied since 1967…”[7]

Saudi Columnist: The “Satanic Normalization” Is Intended To Conceal Netanyahu’s And Trump’s Defeat In The War With Iran

In an article titled “Satanic Normalization” in the Saudi state daily Makkah, journalist Khalid Al-Owijan argued that Trump’s normalization proposal was meant to obscure the defeat suffered by Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in the war with Iran, and that Saudi Arabia would not allow this to happen. He wrote: “The attempt to impose normalization with Israel on the countries of the region, in particular on Saudi Arabia, is, in my view, intended to conceal the American and Israeli failure to break Iran’s strength. The pressure to either sign the Abraham Accords or leave the war open is a scheme to blackmail Riyadh, which is working to extinguish the flames in a region already ablaze…

“Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu believe that Saudi Arabia’s signing of a normalization agreement with Israel would divert attention from their defeat in their wars and [allow them to] emerge as victors from the fighting with Iran… This idea – of linking the issues being discussed in the U.S.-Iran negotiations to political scenarios that redraw the map of the region and grant Israel additional influence – has not deceived and will not deceive Saudi Arabia, which bases its strategic decisions on historical principles… from which it cannot deviate at any price.

“In conclusion, I can say with complete confidence that Riyadh will not serve Netanyahu a victory cake, nor will it provide Trump with an opportunity to escape the quagmire of his boastfulness and adventurism by engaging in satanic normalization.”[8]

Qatar: The Call For Normalization Reveals That The War Against Iran Was Intended To Reshape The Region; The Abraham Accords Are A Satanic Deal

In Qatar, Trump’s and Graham’s calls to join the Abraham Accords as part of an agreement with Iran were met with unequivocal rejection.

Qatari Minister: Trump’s Remarks Reveal That The War Against Iran Was Intended To Expand The Regional Conflict And Reshape The Middle East

According to Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al-Kawari, Qatar’s Minister of State with rank of Deputy Prime Minister, Trump’s statements revealed that the war against Iran was motivated by broader plans to reshape the region. He wrote: “…Wise [Gulf leaders] understood from the outset that the greatest danger was not merely the [Iranian] military attacks [on their countries], but also the possibility that the conflict would evolve into an Arab-Iranian confrontation. Those who ignited the war [i.e., the United States and Israel] were counting on this [scenario], and they expect its outcomes to serve their plans of reshaping the region according to visions that run contrary to the interests and stability of its peoples. The current attempts to link the war against Iran to the Palestinian issue confirm [these] concerns, which prudent voices in the region warned about from the beginning. This linkage suggests that  expanding the circle of the conflict and redirecting its course were part of the original intentions of those who planned this aggression…”[9]

Qatari Diplomat: Trump’s Remarks Are An Attempt To Conceal The Defeat In The War With Iran; No One, Regardless Of Status, Can Impose Anything On Us; Blackmail And Threats Will Be Of No Avail

In a May 31, 2026 column in the Qatari state daily Al Sharq, Qatari diplomat Muhammad Ali Al-Maliki likewise argued that Trump’s call for normalization with Israel was an attempt to obscure the defeat in the war with Iran. He too wondered whether the war itself had been intended merely to disguise a broader plan to create regional chaos in service of Israel.

He wrote: “A few days ago, the American president addressed a strange and inappropriate statement to us, linking the ongoing negotiations with Iran to normalization with the entity of the Zionist gang [i.e., Israel]… We do not know how he imagined we could agree to such a thing or even consider it. How can the president of a country, regardless of his status, force [other] sovereign countries to accept [a plan] that undermines their sovereignty and independence? How can a political agreement with one country be linked to another, completely unrelated, political agreement? And how does he dare to force countries [to join] an agreement that does not concern them and to which they attach no importance[?]…

“I wonder, was this illogical and impolitic proposal by the U.S. president intended to create a kind of shock in the region, or did he wish to convey that, as the leader of a superpower, others must hear and obey without objection or hesitation? Did he intend this proposal to manufacture yet another illusory victory, in order to conceal his defeat in the war [with Iran]? Or was the declared plan, which he announced together with the entity [i.e., Israel] at the outset of the war, merely a cover for the original plan: to plunge the region into chaos and into a state of security, political, and economic instability, so as to trap it in a vortex of uncertainty and speculation, through which [Trump] could subject the region to unreasonable pressure on behalf of the Zionist entity?

“It appears that, through the shocks he creates, the U.S. president seeks to achieve more than might be expected. None of his moves, actions, or maneuvers have been based on a realistic strategy, nor did he possess an exit strategy from the cycle of conflict in which he became embroiled… [So] when he failed to find a way out of this crisis through war, he resorted to blackmail and thought of another way to declare [an end to the war]: by issuing threats that would preserve his honor…

“We must understand and learn the lesson: Whatever the threats may be, the final word belongs to us and not to others, regardless of their titles or status. We must demonstrate this already today.”[10]

IUMS: Any Normalization With Israel Must Be Totally Rejected; Any Agreement Founded On Disgrace Will Only Lead To Humiliation

In a statement responding to Trump’s statements, the International Union of Muslim Scholars (IUMS), which is headquartered in Doha and is supported by the Qatari regime, called on the Islamic nation to “totally reject them, along with [the notion of] normalization with the state of occupation, oppression, and arrogance [i.e. Israel], and to confront them in every possible way – each [person] from where they are and in accordance with their capabilities.” The IUMS urged the Muslims to establish “a comprehensive political-economic-military-security strategic alliance of the countries that oppose surrendering to Zionist dictates, so as to confront Netanyahu’s strategic policy to forcibly change the Middle East and bring it under his control and the control of his entity [Israel], as he has openly declared.”[11]

In this context, IUMS head Ali Al-Qaradaghi wrote on his X account: “The worst part of [Trump’s] statement is that it aims to push large countries in the Islamic world – like Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Turkey, Pakistan, Jordan, and Egypt – into a position of subservience, as part of an American-Israeli re-engineering of the region.” He exhorted “the governments of the Islamic world to totally reject any pressure that makes normalization a political obligation or replaces national sovereignty with the forced signing [of an agreement].” He also called on politicians to “mobilize, make peace amongst yourselves, and know that our enemy feeds on the discord between us and that any agreement founded upon disgrace will end in humiliation and ignominy.”[12]

Cartoon In Qatari Daily: The Arabs Are Victims Of The Abraham Accords, Joining Will Lead To Their Slaughter

A cartoon published by the London-based Qatari daily Al-Arabi Al-Jadid showed an Arab negotiating with an Eid Al-Adha sacrificial sheep.[13] The Arab says to the sheep: “Sign, my brother – [we are] in the same position. You are the sacrifice of Abraham and we are the sacrifices of the Abraham [Accords]. Go on!”[14]

Journalists In Qatar: Trump Is Delusional; He Is Brash, Disconnected From Reality, And Destined For The Shadows Of History; The Abraham Accords Are A Satanic Deal

Several journalists in Qatar took to their X accounts to criticize the U.S. and American officials for their calls for normalization with Israel. Al-Arabi TV anchor Muhammad Ghamloush addressed President Trump, writing: “Who are you that these countries should listen to you? You want them to be dragged into normalization with the entity of murder and destruction, while the world rejects it? How delusional are [you]?… You must understand that you, and this terrorist entity [Israel], are [destined for] the shadows of history.”[15]

Kuwaiti academic Abdallah Khalifa Al-Shaiji, who writes columns in the Qatari dailies Al-Sharq and Al-Quds Al-Arabi, posted on his X account: “Trump has the nerve, and is sufficiently disconnected from reality, to demand that [we] normalize with an outcast, despised, and isolated entity.”[16]

Qatari journalist and content creator Khaled Al-Kuwari shared Lindsey Graham’s post and commented: “[This is] America’s evil in its clearest form.”[17] In a later post, he wrote: “The Abraham Accords are a satanic deal.”[18]

Egyptian State Dailies: The U.S. Cannot Force Normalization

Egypt too refrained from issuing an official response to Trump’s call for it to join the Abraham Accords. However, Egyptian sources told the Lebanese daily Al-Akhbar that, even though Egypt has a peace agreement and official diplomatic relations with Israel, the relations between the two countries are not warm, there is no normalization between them, and there is a popular boycott of  Israel. According to the daily, Egyptian officials told the Americans that the Egyptian people would not allow any discussion of normalization “before peace is achieved, which requires the declaration of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, and with clear borders and territorial integrity.”[19]

Official Egyptian outlets published several articles criticizing Trump’s statements, asserting that the U.S. cannot force the countries of the region to normalize relations with Israel.

Article In Al-Ahram: The Experience Of The Past Shows That The U.S. Cannot Impose Its Policy By Force

Egyptian academic Ahmad Youssef Ahmad, who lectures on political science at Cairo University and has a column in the Egyptian state daily Al-Ahram, wrote in a May 28 article:

“Trump drew an arbitrarily link between two separate things: the conflict with Iran and the Arab-Israeli conflict. It is true that the two have a common denominator – which is that Israel, with American support, is the original cause of the violence in both conflicts – but these two issues are [nevertheless] completely different, and therefore the solution to one is not a solution to the other…

“Trump believes that joining the Abraham Accords [must be] immediate and mandatory… He apparently does not understand that a country like Saudi Arabia, in its role as a leader in the Arab and Islamic [world], cannot change its known [political] orientation just because of his post, not to mention Turkey and Pakistan. He apparently does not remember that Egypt calmly and successfully resisted his idea of expelling the people of Gaza and building a riviera there.

“As for Iran joining [the Abraham Accords], this is an absurd idea, and as for forcing [anyone to join them], this has no legal basis. It follows that [Trump’s] only way [to compel anyone] is by force, [but] the history of American policy in Vietnam, Lebanon, Somalia, Afghanistan, Iraq, and Iran is rife with evidence of the futility of this…”[20]

Egyptian Journalist: The Americans Are Advancing A Poisoned Path Dictated By Netanyahu; O Allah, Destroy The Zionists And Their Supporters

In a May 26 article titled “The Obsession With Normalization” in the Egyptian state daily Akhbar Al-Yawm, the daily’s former editor, Muhammed Hassan Al-Banna, responded to Senator Graham’s threats that countries that wouldn’t join the Abraham Accords would risk their relations with the U.S. He asserted that the U.S. is attempting to impose a policy dictated by Netanyahu and prayed for Allah to destroy the Zionists and their supporters.

He wrote: “What right does the American Senator Lindsey Graham have to threaten the Arab countries if they do not sign the normalization accords with Israel[?] Is he a divine messenger of the bloodshedder Netanyahu, prime minister of the radical Israeli government?…

“Saudi Arabia has already conditioned the normalization accords on a solution to the Palestinian crisis, a two-state solution, and an end to the war in the region. It informed President Trump of this when he asked Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman to join their Abraham Accords in their meeting last November.

“This poisoned path, dictated by the bloodshedder Netanyahu and carried out by the Americans, proves that the peace that the radical Netanyahu government wants [involves] taking over Arab lands, destroying the Palestinian people, erasing the [Palestinian] cause from history, and placing the Arab region under the control of the Jews. O Allah, destroy the Zionists and their supporters.”[21]

Oman: The Abraham Accords Are A Despicable Idea Meant To Serve Israel Alone

Articles published in the Omani state press likewise harshly criticized Trump’s statement.

In an article in the official Al-Roya daily, journalist Muhammad Bin Khalfan Al-Asimi called the Abraham Accords a “despicable idea” and part of “the great deception” meant to reshape the region in the service of Israel. He added that the U.S. and Israel launched the war against Iran in order to coerce the countries of the region to join the Abraham Accords.

He wrote: “…The idea of the Abraham Accords is  just part of the great deception through which the Zionists aim to reshape the alliances in the region to serve their agendas and political ambitions… The Abraham Accords are a despicable idea that ignores the Palestinians’ right to establish an independent state… and it does not see the Palestinian cause as part of the solution…

“Since these plans [of the Abraham Accords] have not met with the anticipated success – despite the heavy pressure applied by the U.S. to implement them since they were launched in September 2020 – Israel and the U.S. have concluded that there is no choice but to change tack and impose this plan on the countries of the region. This is the main [reason they] sparked the recent crisis and the war with Iran. The goal was to create a crisis between the Gulf states and Iran that would push the former into an alliance [with Israel] by means of these accords so as to confront what they call ‘the Iranian expansionism’ and neutralize [Iran’s] ambitions in the region…

“The plan of the Abraham Accords is no different from the Balfour Declaration. Balfour gave land that didn’t belong to him to an entity that did not deserve it, and these Accords legitimize this right and make this entity a legal fact, just like the Zionists want…”[22]

In another article, published on Al-Roya‘s website on May 30, journalist Sultan Bin Khalfan Al-Yahyai wrote that the Abraham Accords, which Trump is trying to impose on the countries of the region, “do not grant the Arab nations real security, political independence, or development plans that preserve their [independent] decision-making.” Instead, they “grant Israel an unprecedented [opportunity] for political, economic, and security expansion, with overt U.S. and Western sanction. The goal is that the Arabs pay the price [by giving up] their identity, their strategic location, and the future of their coming generations…”[23]

Kuwait: The Alliance With America Is Ineffective; Trump’s Statement Proves The Zionists Control Him

Kuwait, which was mentioned by Trump in his May 27 remarks to the cabinet, likewise issued no official response to his statements. However, on May 27, Kuwaiti journalist Muhammad Al-Moqatei argued in his column in the Kuwaiti state daily Al-Jaridah that the alliance between the Gulf states and the U.S. is of questionable benefit, and called on the former to be self-reliant and establish their own alliances. Trump’s post, he added, proves his fickle character and that the Zionists control him.

He wrote: “…The war between the U.S. and Iran has revealed the fragility of [America’s] alliance with our countries. America’s defense and fighting doctrine was and continues to be about defending its [own] assets, bases, military, and citizens! The U.S. never regarded the Arab and Islamic countries as something to defend! Were it not for the peak readiness, the caution, the awareness, and the wisdom shown by our leaders in the Gulf in their approach to the war between America and Iran, our countries would have easily been destroyed by Iran!…

“It appears that Trump’s recent statement, in his post two days ago, in which he said that joining the Abraham Accords is an obligatory condition for protection from the consequences of the war, clearly demonstrates the fickleness of [this man], who is fully controlled by the Zionist entity… There is no blessing from Allah in a fragile alliance whose cost, consequences, and impact on our countries and nations outweigh its effectiveness and its capacity to protect us from harm. On the contrary, it is creating the foundation for even greater harm and for imposing a new reality in the Middle East that is unacceptable from an ideological, national, and cultural perspective…”[24]

  1. This article presents the Arab countries of the Middle East as uniformly hostile to Israel and uniformly hostile to joining the Abraham Accords.

But I have heard many times from individuals who speak with either these heads of state or those who work with them that away from the microphones and publicity, these people are not as hostile to Israel as they appear to be.

I think most of the people who read Israpundit have read that these countries want President Trump to liquidate the IRGC because they all feel threatened by Iranian aggression. They do not call him to ask him to get rid of Israel.

If Arab countries want to continue to maintain hostile relations with Israel, that is their choice. But then they should be seen as pro-war.

What Trump is aiming at is long-term peace in the Middle East. But the war in Iran WAS NOT STARTED BY PRESIDENT TRUMP OR BY NETANYAHU.

The war in Iran has been planned for several years by Tony Blair’s Institute. The goal for starting the war in Iran was to tie Trump down to an unwinnable war in the Middle East.

Any Arab or Muslim country in the Middle East that wants to remain pro-war and against peace with Israel is merely doing the globalist bidding, and are part of the globalist attempt to maintain forever wars wherever possible around the globe. This brings the City of London and the elite int’l corporations money for all the war materiel and for later reconstruction of the country after the war. They are happy to have wars in Iran and Ukraine.

Qatar, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Oman, insofar as they do not want to join the Abraham Accords are tipping their hands and telling us they are on the side of perpetual war in the Middle East. Maintaining a hateful attitude towards Israel amongst their populace is what creates the context for terrorism and war.
