She lied to obtain citizenship so she should face denaturalization proceedings and, if citizenship is revoked and the law permits, deportation. Citizenship fraud is no technicality. Public office should never shield anyone from the consequences of obtaining citizenship under false pretenses.
We’re now learning that it also includes her family. And it’s bad.
CBS News reports: Multiple relatives of Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar received grand jury subpoenas, as part of the ongoing criminal investigation into her family’s history for evidence of possible fraud and false statements in their immigration paperwork, sources familiar with the matter told CBS News. The subpoenas were issued on Friday, just days before Omar’s home in Washington, D.C., was searched early Monday morning by investigators from ICE’s investigative unit. Omar’s personal cell phone was taken by Homeland Security Investigations during the search, two sources told CBS News (CBS).

RedState looks at Omar’s immigration story: Her father, Nur Omar Mohamed, has been identified as a colonel in the Somali military under dictator Siad Barre, whose regime was responsible for a brutal campaign against the Isaaq population during the 1980s. And according to a detailed report published by Somaliland Chronicle, Mohamed’s position within that military raises disturbing questions about his possible involvement in the atrocities. The publication argues that Mohamed’s rank, length of service, and position in the military command structure made it highly unlikely that he was unaware of the regime’s campaign against the Isaaq….
