Lenny Goldberg, who lives in Samaria and has his own Bible Study podcast series, analyzes the facts on the ground in Samaria which led to the recent tragedy in which two Israelis, a security officer and IDF major, were killed during last Friday’s terror attack near Havat Gilad. Benayahu Melet, of blessed memory, and Maj. Yuval Ezra, 27, from Herzliya, were needlessly murdered in the recent terror attack in the Samarian hillside when a group of Arab terrorists actually seized a rifle from Israeli security officer Benaymen Melet.
The informing aspect of this attack came from the fact that the assaulting Arabs acted as if knowing that they might be able to seize a weapon from an Israeli defender, and this is exactly what took place. As Security Officer Benayahu Melet, acting in accordance with established administrative protocols which threaten imprisonment and/or gun seizure, used his gun as if it were a pole while not even discharging the weapon in the air to provide a demonstration of his willingness to use it in self defense. The manner in which the terrorist responded after seizing the weapon away from Melet was very telling as he unhesitatingly turned the weapon on the the unarmed Jews. It was as if the terrorist acted while fully cognizant of the fact that the security forces would be reluctant to use their fire arms in any way which might provide a meaningful deterrent to the mayhem which ensued. Indeed as Goldberg explains in the video below, the security forces face a terrible choice of actually using their arms to defend themselves or having access to those arms in the future.
Why are Jews made to be more concerned about the prospect of maintaining access to a firearm to protect their fellow Jews than actually using that firearm to provide security for their fellow Jews. The judicial and administrative steps taken to restrain the Jews of Judea and Samaria have in fact transformed these heroes into living targets of terror, as the terrorists know that if the Jewish security forces use force to prevent such a tragedy as took place last Friday, it will only lead to greater restraints being placed on the Jewish security members while ignoring the inciting outrages being conducted by the Arabs. This is why the sweeps taking place in Judea and Samaria are likely to have less of an effect than expected, because the support for the terrorists is likewise being enacted by the whimsical judgements of the High Court along with the administrative judgements being enforced by the IDF leaders in Central Command under Maj. Gen. Avi Bluth.
So the problem of terrorism growing in Judea and Samaria is not just due to the terrorist intentions of the terrorists alone, but also due to the fact that they are now making use of the penalizing rules of engagement under which even a modicum of security is being afforded to Jews in the area who are doing nothing more inciting than taking a hike across the Samarian hills.

It’s like going for a walk in a deep, dark jungle with predators everywhere. Yet the threats are downplayed, both here in the diaspora and in Israel. Jewish “niceness.”
Shoot.
