If ever there was a week that illustrated the dramatic difference between the lives of Israeli Jews and American Jews, this was it.

Over the course of the past week, Palestinian Arab terrorists stabbed and wounded an Israeli in the Old City of Jerusalem, drove a car into Israelis standing at a bus stop near Elazar, fired rockets into Sderot, set fields on fire in the western Negev, threw hand grenades at Israeli soldiers near the Gaza fence, and tried to stone Jews to death at the Tomb of Joseph.

And on Friday, they murdered 17 year-old Rina Shenrav, for the crime of hiking while Jewish. She had  just celebrated her 17th birthday the week before her murder.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met with Zehut leader Moshe Feiglin in recent days and offered him an economic portfolio in the next government if his party were to drop out of the September 17 race.

Netanyahu reportedly also offered to take steps to legalize medical cannabis, a key issue in the Zehut platform, and to help pay the party’s debts. The offer to Feiglin consisted of one package if he would drop out and another if he would also endorse Likud.

But Feiglin rejected the offers and vowed to continue to lead Zehut until it enters the Knesset. On Tuesday, Zehut will hold a mass campaign rally at Expo Tel Aviv, with 700 participants already signed up to attend.

With polls showing neither the Right or Left will be able to secure a coalition, the Joint Arab List could supply a significant boost to the Left in September if it breaks its longstanding tradition of remaining outside the government. Such a deal, however, could also boost Netanyahu’s chances of winning the election.

Israel is deeply worried by US President Donald Trump’s declared readinessin principle to meet in the near future with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, top ministers were quoted saying on Monday evening. The fear is that the US president will open a dialogue with Iran similar to the ongoing one he has with North Korea, taking pressure off Tehran.

To say that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is uncomfortable with the US president’s newly open-minded stance on Iran “is the understatement of the millennium,” Israel’s Channel 13 reported, quoting what it said were three senior cabinet ministers expressing profound concern that just as Trump has “gotten nowhere” with North Korea, while relieving the economic pressure on Pyongyang, the same would now happen with Iran.

Demonstrators protest customs reforms

Jordanian protests against the government’s new customs measures continued for a third day in the northern city of Ramtha, as demonstrators vented their frustration against a new policy that reportedly will limit the number of duty-free items that can be brought into the kingdom and impose a tariff on every item coming from overseas.

Many taxi drivers from Ramtha sell duty-free goods from Syria as a second source of revenue in order to bolster their income derived from driving over the border between Jordan and Syria.

Taylor Luck, an Amman-based journalist and political analyst, explained that while the full extent of the changes have yet to be released, the law formalizes regulations so that every overseas item must go through the customs system and be levied a minimum of five Jordanian Dinars (approximately seven US dollars).

On sidelines of G7 summit, US president tells leaders both sides are ready to negotiate a deal, says Palestinians ‘will be happy to get US funding again’

US President Donald Trump said Monday that his administration might release its Middle East peace plan before Israel’s elections in September, reversing earlier statements that it would wait until after the election re-do to unveil the long-delayed proposal.

Trump told reporters on the sidelines of the annual G7 summit in Paris that both Israelis and Palestinians were interested in reaching a peace deal. Trump said he “thinks the Palestinians will be happy to get US funding again and make a deal,” according to Rueters.

“We’re going to know who the [Israeli] prime minister is going to be fairly soon,” he said, according to Axios. “[A deal] won’t be before the election, I don’t think… But I think you may see what the deal is before the election.”

The Netflix production of “The Dead Sea Diving Resort,” which was a somewhat romanticized version of  one of the most heroic of Israeli operations in the mid-1980s, told the story of how a clandestine tourist-aimed business venture launched in South Sudan by members of Mossad in 1984 to 1985 enabled  the covert evacuation of thousands of Ethiopian Jews in a daring air lift that became known as Operation Moses.

It received huge publicity in its time following the arrival of these Jews in Israel, and was followed by similar operations, but so many dramatic events have happened in the world since then, that there has been  a tendency to forget what went into this truth, which seemed stranger than a fictional story.

The U.S. State Department has removed the Palestinian Authority from its list of countries and areas on its website, Arutz7 reports on Sunday.

The Israeli news site didn’t say when the change was made but notes that “until recently” the word “Palestinians” appeared under the heading “Palestinian Authority.”

Under the Trump administration and the leadership of Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, the State Department has changed other terminology concerning Israel and the territories under Palestinian control.

Terrorist organization denies report of immediate retaliation after Israeli drones reportedly crash in Beirut. Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah expected to reveal next steps later today.

Hezbollah will retaliate to an alleged overnight Israeli provocation in Beirut by Sunday afternoon, sources close to the Shiite terrorist group told the Lebanese media hours after the incident, but the threat was later walked back by Hezbollah.

Two Israeli drones reportedly crashed in a Hezbollah stronghold in the Lebanese capital overnight, a spokesman for the organization said on Sunday, saying the first fell on the roof of a building housing Hezbollah’s media office while the second landed in a plot behind it.

Hezbollah spokesman Mohammed Afif said that a small, unmanned reconnaissance drone fell on a building housing Hezbollah’s media office in the Moawwad neighborhood in Dahiyeh, the group’s stronghold in southern Beirut.
