Amos-17 satellite will be launched early Sunday, Israel time, from Cape Canaveral in Florida atop a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket

Almost three years after losing its Amos-6 satellite in an explosion, Israel’s Spacecom is set to launch its newest and “most advanced” satellite to provide communications services over Africa.

The satellite, called Amos-17, was built by aerospace firm Boeing according to designs and specifications of the Ramat Gan-based Spacecom, also known as Space-Communication Ltd.

The craft is scheduled to be launched on Sunday at around 1:50 a.m. Israel time (6:50 p.m. Saturday local time) from Cape Canaveral in Florida, where it has already been loaded atop a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket. Depending on the weather, the launch could be delayed by a day, Spacecom said at a press conference in Tel Aviv.

The Arrow 3 is designed to intercept ballistic missiles outside the atmosphere. With divert motor capability, its kill vehicle can switch directions dramatically, allowing it to pivot to see approaching satellites. The missile has a reported flight range of up to 1,500 miles.

His opponents argue that even if US President Donald Trump is friendly to Jewish interests, Jewish values mandate he be opposed. Those assumptions must now be questioned.

Most American Jews didn’t need the latest controversy involving President Donald Trump to convince them to resist him. Already loyal Democrats, the overwhelming majority opposed the conservative policies pursued by his administration and regarded his views on illegal immigration abhorrent. But the “Send her back!” taunt Trump vehemently directed at the far-left congresswomen who comprise what has become known as “The Squad” was considered beyond the pale.

Taking their cues from The New York Times and networks like CNN, most Jews now think “racist” is not so much an epithet to be hurled at the president as an objective description. The current debate over Trump resembles the apocalyptic rhetoric that was routinely thrown about in the months before he took office, when many observers claimed the US was living through the moral equivalent of the last days of the Weimar Republic. The latest controversy has some otherwise sober liberals again asserting that Trump is an authoritarian threat to American liberties who is targeting minorities like the freshmen congresswomen for oppression.

Tourist who said she was attacked is detained on suspicion of filing false complaint; ‘rape never took place,’ police source says

Seven Israelis held in Cyprus on suspicion of gang raping a teenage British tourist in Cyprus earlier this month were released from custody Sunday, as police turned their attention to their accuser.

“All seven Israelis have been released, since 10 a.m.,” police spokesman Christos Andreou told AFP. “The young woman will be taken to court tomorrow morning (Monday).”

Earlier, a police source said the British teenager had been arrested. “She is facing charges of giving a false statement over an imaginary offense,” the police source told AFP. “Rape never took place,” one police source told Reuters.

A committee composed of the PLO’s Executive Committee, Fatah’s Central Committee and the PA is set to meet to draw up concrete mechanisms with a specific timeline for the implementation of the Palestinian leadership’s
decision to suspend ALL the agreements signed with Israel – including security cooperation.

The official PLO news agency – WAFA – noted that in apparent reference to the security coordination, Mahmoud al-Aloul, deputy chairman of President Mahmoud Abbas’ Fatah movement told Voice of Palestine radio today that “The
Palestinian leadership’s decision to suspend the agreements signed with Israel includes all the agreements signed with it and does not exclude anything.”

If indeed the Palestinians are serious about this, the challenge for Israeli leadership today is to exploit this unilateral Palestinian move to Israel’s benefit rather than detriment.

The civil war that raged in Syria over the past eight years seems to be drawing to a close. In July 2018, the Syrian regime regained control of the southern part of the country, including the town of Dar’a where the revolt began in March 2011. Five months later in December 2018, U.S. president Donald Trump announced his decision to withdraw U.S. troops from Syria, driving the final nail in the coffin of the rebellion.[1]

Although the return of stability and security to the war-torn country is still a far-off goal, the military campaign is effectively over. The efforts of the rebel groups—supported by large segments of the Syrian population—to overthrow the Assad regime, which has ruled the country since 1970, have failed. President Bashar Assad emerged as the undisputed winner though he did so only thanks to the massive military aid rendered by Moscow, Tehran, and Iran’s Hezbollah Lebanese proxy. How will the end of the war affect Syria’s relations with its patrons, and what will be its implications for wider Middle Eastern stability?

Israel has reportedly flown a modified version of the F-35 to Iran and back, circling major cities and military bases and taking surveillance photographs without being detected by Iranian radar or intercepted by Russian missiles.

That is the story that has been circulating throughout the Middle East for the past year. No one is certain whether it is true, but it has begun to appear in Western sources, especially since Iran recently fired the head of its air force.

Yisrael Beytenu chief blasts Likud’s opposition to unity government, warns establishment of right-wing gov’t will lead to theocracy.

Former Defense Minister and Yisrael Beytenu chairman Avidgor Liberman said Friday that his party would not support a right-wing government, condemning the Likud party for ruling out a unity government with the center-left Blue and White party.

“The cat is out of the bag,” Liberman said, after a Likud internal party memo was published by Israel Hayom Friday morning, telling party officials not to speak in favor of a unity government.

“Netanyahu…made the headlines this morning with his declaration that he will not form a unity government. The assumption is that he will be able to form a narrow Netanyahu-led government with the support of Ben-Gvir, Smotrich, Rabbi Peretz, Deri, and Litzman, who are pushing for a theocratic state,” Liberman continued, alluding to reports Thursday that Netanyahu has offered two ministries to the United Right, and a senior position to Otzma Yehudit candidate Itamar Ben-Gvir, if the United Right allies itself with Otzma Yehudit – and not the New Right.

Elizabeth Pipko feared her support of the president would hurt her career, but now that she’s come out conservative, she’s the face of an effort to change the Jewish vote

NEW YORK — Jewish-American voters historically vote overwhelmingly in favor of the Democratic Party, usually in the 70 to 80 percent range. Elizabeth Pipko is looking to change that.

The self-styled model and figure skater is now the face of the Exodus Movement, a group that started as “Jexodus” in March to spread a right-wing message in an attempt to sway Jewish voters towards voting red in the 2020 election.

In conversation with The Times of Israel, Pipko says that people are often stymied by her, asking if she’s been brainwashed and why she would support US President Donald Trump so staunchly. At a time when Jewish voters are disappointed in the Republican response to increasing reports of anti-Semitism, the Exodus Movement is not an easy sell.

PEOPLES PARTY OF CANADA

Party leader Maxime Bernier announced his Immigration platform for the People’s Party of Canada last night to a cheering crowd that was as diverse as any seen across Canada, clearly reflecting Canada’s cultural and racial diversity. This appears to be reflected in his candidates’ backgrounds as well.  However, this crowd was completely united in their support for his policies on immigration, Islamism and the absolute need for integration of immigrants and refugees.  Their support reflects a recent poll that suggests 63% of Canadians expressed concerns that the Canadian immigration rate, amongst the highest in the world, should be limited because Canada “might be reaching a limit in its ability to integrate them.”
