After multiple rulings by top court thwarting attempts to deport asylum seekers, Knesset proposes a new provision aimed at bypassing the court to ‘guarantee that infiltrators will leave Israel’

The Ministerial Committee for Legislation will discuss on Sunday legislation of a new provision that will override the Basic Law on Human Dignity and Liberty in the case of asylum seekers. The provision allows the Knesset to re-enact parts of the Prevention of Infiltration Law, despite opposition from the High Court of Justice. The court has annulled or frozen a number of government moves to imprison or deport asylum seekers.

A coalition source estimated that the committee will support the proposal on Sunday, and enable it to advance in the Knesset.

Canadian ambassador to Israel Deborah Lyons announced on Wednesday that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will formally apologize next month for the decision in 1939 by then Prime Minister William Lyon Mackenzie King refusing to grant asylum to the more than 900 Jewish refugees from Nazi Germany.

Speaking at the General Assembly of the Jewish Federations of North America in Tel Aviv, Lyons said that Trudeau will apologize for failing to admit the refugees, of whom 254 were eventually murdered during the Holocaust, according to the US Holocaust Memorial Museum.

Addressing North American Jewish leaders in Tel Aviv on Wednesday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu defended his controversial freezing of a compromise deal to expand the pluralistic prayer platform at the Western Wall, blaming pressure from the “ultra-Orthodox street,” and arguing that religion and state issues in Israel have always been settled with “ad hoc compromises” and “slowly evolving arrangements.”

While the agreement — made in January 2016 and suspended a year and a half later — will not be fully implemented, he vowed that a new “refurbished” prayer platform will open very soon.

Before the death of a Washington Post contributor in a Saudi Arabian embassy, elite U.S. universities took more than half a billion dollars from the country and its affiliates between 2011 and 2017.

These gifts and contracts, in some instances, are intended to influence students’ and faculty experts’ views on the kingdom.

Saudi Arabian interests paid $614 million to U.S. universities over a six-year period, more than every country but Qatar and the United Kingdom, Department of Education data analyzed by The Daily Caller News Foundation shows. That includes $120 million from the Saudi Arabian Cultural Mission to the U.S., whose website says it “disseminate[s] information that reflects Saudi culture, tradition, and heritage through our active participation in academic, cultural, and social activities.”

An Israeli Foreign Ministry official told a Knesset committee earlier this week that if U.S. President Donald Trump did not present an Israeli-Palestinian peace plan within a few weeks after the upcoming Nov. 6 midterm elections, French President Emmanuel Macron would likely unveil a diplomatic initiative of his own, Channel 10reported on Tuesday.

Alon Ushpiz, the Foreign Ministry’s director of diplomacy, also revealed that Israel was not aware of the details of Trump’s long-awaited proposal.

As a result, they worked tirelessly to eliminate the candidacy of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court. This is in contrast with the conservative positions of the American Right, a supporter of capitalism, patriotism and the right of every state to govern itself.

T. Belman. To my mind, American liberal Jews should be taught what makes the right in Israel tick. They don’t have to agree with us but must understand that liberalism doesn’t work in the ME. They must understand that a strong national identity is our most important defense asset. The more American Jews embrace their Jewish identity the closer will our communities become.

Secondly they must learn that Trump is their friend not their enemy. In so many ways his policies are good for them, (e.g.,lower taxes, higher stock market, more law and order, less antisemitism to name a few), yet they are at the forefront of attempts to destroy him. They must learn to support Trump because he is the biggest defender Israel has ever had

The initiative comes at a time when the Reform movement, along with the Conservative movement, has deep disagreements with the current Israeli government over state recognition for the progressive Jewish denominations, Jewish conversion, and prayer rights at the Western Wall.

The Reform movement in the US will be ramping up education about, and engagement with, Israel, as well as increasing its support for Reform communities in the country, as part of a strategic initiative to strengthen the identification of Reform Jews in North America with the Jewish state.

The response of moderate Muslims in the face of atrocities committed in the name of Islam has been underwhelming. Whereas hundreds of thousands of Muslims readily rally against American or Israeli actions, demonstrations to protest jihadism have drawn far smaller crowds in European and American cities.

This apathy has given rise to voices accusing Muslims of sympathy towards jihadism. This is untrue. A strong majority of Muslims revile the goals and methods of Islamic extremists around the world. Since the vast majority of Muslims are peaceful and law-abiding, the dissonance between individual peacefulness and collective lack of mobilization against jihadism needs to be explained. Light must therefore be shed on the attitudes and outlook of moderate Muslims.

While Jamal Khashoggi has often been misidentified as a Washington Post journalist, all he did for the radical leftist paper owned by Amazon’s CEO is write editorials promoting the Muslim Brotherhood agenda. The Muslim Brotherhood leader and former Bin Laden pal was never a journalist. The closest he came to it was acting as a terrorist propagandist in Afghanistan, glamorizing Osama bin Laden, on behalf of a man listed by the Treasury Department as one of “the world’s foremost terrorist financiers.”

Truth is, the forerunners of the EU were already working hard on generating mass migrations starting with the late 1970s oil shock. The former EC (European Community) thereupon constituted the Euro-Arab Dialogue. It later culminated in the Barcelona Declaration of 1995 and the subsequent creation of the Union for the Mediterranean which cemented the earlier 1980s agreements to allow Arab mass migration into Europe.
