How to check the Supreme Court

T. Belman. This is great advice for Israel too. High Court judges would have to be elected or retired every five years. This would make the Judges responsible to the people. It would constitute a check on them. Currently, they answer to no one. Their power is absolute.

By Hugh McInnish, AMERICAN THINKER

Comes now Peter Skurkiss and posts a fine piece on American Thinker concerning the panic the NYT is having at the thought of impending retirements on the Supreme Court.  The Times laments the horrible possibility that one or more of the justices may quit while Trump is in office and be replaced with a “conservative” – that is, with someone who has a reverence for the Constitution and what our venerated founders intended for the limited role of the Court.

But shouldn’t those of us who stand as the antithesis to the NYT be equally concerned?  Indeed, we should.  The Court “has morphed into an u?ber legislative body,” “[m]andating homosexual ‘marriage’ and abortion for all 50 states.”

Classic Europe: Appeasement at all costs

By Elad Beck, ISRAEL HAYOM

To understand the bizarreness of the European Union’s almost-automatic response to Israel’s revelation of Iran’s nuclear weapons archive, we have to go back to July 14, 2015. In the early afternoon, following intensive, painstaking negotiations, EU foreign policy chief Frederica Mogherini and Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif emerged side by side to read a joint statement in English and Farsi affirming the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, otherwise known as the Iran nuclear deal.

An overly ecstatic Mogherini and her Iranian colleague spoke about a “historic day” and stressed that “with courage, political will, mutual respect and leadership, we delivered on what the world was hoping for: a shared commitment to peace and to join hands in order to make our world safer.”

Congress Seeks Showdown On Ending U.S. Aid to Palestinians

By Adam Kredo, FREE BEACON

A delegation of leading Republican members of Congress are urging newly installed Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to cut all U.S. taxpayer funding to the Palestinian government over its continued use of American dollars to pay the salaries of terrorists and their families, according to communications between these lawmakers and the State Department.

A group of 14 lawmakers formally petitionedPompeo this week to “immediately suspend all aid payments to the Palestinian Authority” due to recent reports these funds continue to be used to pay convicted terrorists and their families, a material breach of newly passed laws barring American aid money being used for such purposes.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said on Monday that he had rejected an offer by former Egyptian President Mohammed Mursi to get a part of Sinai to settle the Palestinians there.

“When the Brotherhood ruled during Mursi’s presidential term, we were offered a part of Sinai but we turned down the offer,” he said while addressing the Palestinian National Council in Ramallah.

He added that this was an Israeli project dubbed “Giora Eiland” and aims to completely put an end to the Palestinian cause.

The disintegration of American Jewry

Although right-wing antisemitism has made headlines, the real threat emanates from the viciously anti-Israel and antisemitic Left.

By Isi Leibler, JPOST

American Jewry, apart from the Orthodox and a minority of committed non-Orthodox, is demographically imploding.

Paradoxically, this is taking place at a time when support for Israel among the American people is at an all-time high and traditional antisemitism is at its lowest level. Jewish education among non-Orthodox Jews is catastrophic, with widespread ignorance of Judaism and understanding about Israel. Assimilation is rampant, with intermarriage levels reaching 70%.

Although right-wing antisemitism has made headlines, the real threat emanates from the viciously anti-Israel and antisemitic Left and the growing numbers of Muslim extremists.

Under normal circumstances, a proud Jewish community supported by most Americans could neutralize these negative elements. However, the crisis is largely internal. In the past, American Jews, with valid historical justifications, have always had a penchant for liberalism. Their attachments to Israel and Judaism were synonymous and liberal political forces were Israel’s strongest supporters, while conservatives were less inclined to support the Jewish state.

Tehran terrified, US expert says

The Iranian regime is “humiliated” after a daring Mossad operation seized scores of secret documents, the former Pentagon official said.

BY YONAH JEREMY BOB, JPOST

The Iranian regime is “quaking in its boots,” after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu revealed secret nuclear-program documents appropriated by the Mossad, an ex-Pentagon Iran expert told The Jerusalem Post on Tuesday.

Harold Rhode spent 28 years at the Pentagon and studied in Iran before the 1979 revolution there. The fluent Farsi speaker, who is now associated with the Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs, said his view stems from a wave of recent Iranian infighting.

How not to push back on Iran

By Ted Belman

Ken Pollack gave a prescription in two parts which AEI Ideas and National Review published.

Let me save you some time. He writes,

“I remain convinced that it would be a mistake for the United States to unilaterally abrogate or violate the agreement. Its flaws notwithstanding, we cannot lose sight of the fact that (a) the JCPOA has significantly constrained Iran’s nuclear activities, and (b) the rest of the world strongly favors it and could well break with the United States if we gut it. Given the critical role of our allies to make pushback work, that is a risk we should not run.”

No thanks.

Israel revised its approach to open fire during Gaza Border crisis

T. Belman. I hate it when Israel backs down. I also hate international law when it interferes with Israel’s self-defense. It used to be in England that “a man’s home is his castle” and thus he could defend its violation. But in a case in 2000, a homeowner, Tony Martin, who killed a 16 year old intruder, was convicted of murder by a jury. When I went to law school, I believe I was taught that you could kill him. Another law I remember was that if someone comes to do you harm, you must run away rather than shoot him but if it happens in your home, you can stand your ground and kill him.

Whether or not I remember the law correctly, it seems to me that Israel should have the right to kill anybody who attemps to infiltrate the country especially when his attempt is part of a plan by enemy combatants to invade Israeli sovereign territory. At a minimum, the individual who makes the attempt, should be treated as part of an enemy collective.

Israel is trying to justify casualties by inventing international law, according to some NGOs.

BY YONAH JEREMY BOB, JPOST

The IDF has adjusted its approach to the use of live fire when confronting protesters on the Gaza border in recent weeks, the state told the High Court of Justice on Monday.

The statement was made at a high-stakes hearing regarding a petition by a group of human-rights groups asking the court to declare that the rules of engagement used by the IDF in confronting the protesters violate international law.

How Israel obtained Iran’s nuclear secrets

Sources reveal how Mossad agents smuggled half a ton of top-secret records from Iran’s nuclear program from Tehran to Israel.

By David Rosenberg, INN

According to a report Monday night by The New York Times which cited an anonymous Israeli senior official, the massive document haul was undertaken in a January 2017 operation he hailed as one of Israel’s “greatest achievements” in intelligence gathering.

Israel’s national intelligence agency, the Mossad, discovered the location of the Iranian nuclear weapons program’s secret file archive in Tehran in February 2016, the source told the Times, which Netanyahu revealed was located in the Shorabad district.

Last January, Mossad agents infiltrated the archive in an overnight operation, removing the half ton of material, and smuggled the files to Israel that very same night.

The Qatar Crisis: Causes, Implications, Risks, and the Need for Compromise

T. Belman. Why is US maintaining good relationships with Qatar who is a major financier of Islamism and terror and antisemitism throughout the world. Now is not the time for compromise.. Qatar is aligned with Iran and the Muslim Brotherhood. It should be forced to change. Jordan is the same. Jordan is the world headquaters of the Muslim Brotherhood and maintains ties with Iran and Qatar. The King will soon be gone from Jordan and so will the MB.

ByPhilip GordonAmos YadlinAri Heistein, INSS,

Special Publication, June 13, 2017

The recent dispute between Qatar and some of its neighbors is the most serious dispute among them in years, and has the potential to further destabilize an already turbulent region. But the crisis also presents a potential opportunity. If a united front that includes the United States and the leading countries in the Arab world can induce Qatar to contain its support for organizations that promote extremism and threaten regional order, it could help stabilize the region, limit the reach of the Islamic State, and isolate Iran. The United States, which maintains close relations with both sides, should play an active role in trying to bring its quarreling partners together.

The Palestinians have reached a dead end

T. Belman. The reason the US keeps repeating her invitation to the PA to join the peace process is because they are positioning for the full rejection of the PA. They will shortly embrace Jordan as Palestine. That’s why Jordan cancelled the citizenship of the four top leaders of the PA. This was initiated by the US rather than the King. I expect the King to be gone by the end of the month.

When the US say they are open to a two -state solution if both parties agree, what they have in mind is Israel and Jordan, led by Mudar Zahran, being the two parties. And they are sure to agree on the Jordan River as the border.

After 100 years of clashes, 70 years of conflict and a quarter-century since the Oslo Accords, which were supposed to have given the Palestinians peace and land of their own, it looks like they are losing the little they have managed to obtain.

By Eyak Zisser, JNS

The number of Gaza residents willing to participate in the riots along the border fence is dropping, as could be seen in last Friday’s protest. Hamas is no longer hiding the fact that the demonstrations are not intended to be quiet marches, but violent attempts to carry out attacks on Israeli forces and civilians, as well as damage the fence and military equipment, and burn fields and forests.

We can assume that leading up to May 15, on which the Palestinians mark the Nakba (or “Catastrophe”) of their displacement during Israel’s 1948 War of Independence, the border will heat up again. Hamas will spur on Gazans to head out for the “marches of return,” reminding Israel and the world that the Palestinians are still committed to the dream of return, which in essence means the destruction of the State of Israel.

The Double Standards of the Mueller Investigation

By Victor Davis Hanson, NATIONAL REVIEW

The more Mueller searches for hypothetical lawbreaking, the more he ignores the actual lawbreakers.

The country is about to witness an investigatory train wreck.

In one direction, Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation train is looking for any conceivable thing that President Donald Trump’s campaign team might have done wrong in 2016.

The oncoming train is slower but also larger. It involves congressional investigations, Department of Justice referrals, and inspector general’s reports — mostly focused on improper or illegal FBI and DOJ behavior during the 2016 election.

Why are the two now about to collide?

The Problem of Syria and What to Do about It

Blame it all on the US

By Mark Christian, AMERICAN THINKER

What is to be made of the mess that is Syria?  Does there exist a side with which America might prudently align?  To decipher this puzzle, it’s important to recall a little of Syria’s history and how that history continues to shape its people.

Syria is a nation with a diverse collection of ethnicities and a multitude of religious affiliations.  Its capital, Damascus, is the oldest still existing city in human history.  Since 1970, when a coup led by then-family patriarch Hafez Assad brought them to power, the Assad family have enjoyed uninterrupted rule, despite repeated attempts to dislodge them.

Saudi Crown Prince: Palestinians should negotiate peace or â??shut upâ??

Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman said the Palestinian leadership needs to accept the peace plans proposed by the US or stop complaining and that the Arab world has lost interest in the so-called Palestinian issue.

In a closed-door meeting with heads of Jewish organizations in New York in March, Bin Salman harshly criticized Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas and the Palestinians’ diplomatic conduct over the past 40 years, according to a report by American news site Axious. The report cited an Israeli foreign ministry cable sent by a diplomat from the Israeli consulate in New York as well three other sources – Israeli and American – who were briefed about the meeting.

Syrian state TV says that rockets have struck military positions in the countryside of Hama and Aleppo provinces.

A military source was quoted as saying by SANA that the “new aggression” by Syria’s enemies had taken place at around 10:30pm (19:30 GMT) on Sunday.

The state TV outlet aired images of what it said was the explosions. It had earlier reported that successive blasts were heard in the Hama and Aleppo countryside and that authorities were investigating the cause.

SANA did not say who was responsible for the attacks.

To Promote Nonproliferation, Kill the Iran Deal Now

The Europeans won’t do business with Tehran if that means losing access to American banks.

By Jamil N. Jaffer WALL STREET JOURNAL April 29, 2018

Will President Trump terminate the Iran nuclear deal? Many national-security experts are concerned he will, by refusing to waive sanctions that are up for renewal in mid-May. Some worry that unilaterally reimposing sanctions on Iran would isolate the U.S. internationally, as Europe’s leaders still broadly support the deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action. Others argue that the JCPOA is working and Iran is largely abiding by its commitments. Still others urge the U.S. to continue waiving sanctions if the Europeans are willing to consider potential changes to the deal.

New American secretary of state: “We’re with Israel in this fight”

Mike Pompeo voiced a strongly worded message of support for Israel as he came to meet Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu Sunday on first trip to the Middle East as secretary of state.

The discussions, unsurprisingly, focused on Iran, its actions in the region, as well as the nuclear accord that President Donald Trump has threatened to walk away from by May 12th if serious changes are not made. Pompeo and Netanyahu apparently see eye to eye on these issues.

18 Iranians killed in Syria explosions

Conflicting reports in Arab media pin blame on Israel, US, and UK after dozens killed at Iranian facilities in Syria.

By David Rosenberg, INN

At least 18 Iranian servicemen were killed in a series of explosions at military sites across Syria Sunday night, a state-run Iranian media outlet reported Monday.

Arab media outlets have issued conflicting reports Monday morning, blaming either Israel, or the US and UK for a series of explosions at military facilities in Syria believed to have been used by Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps.
