The law passed by the Polish parliament, which calls for punishment of anyone blaming the Polish people for Nazi crimes, has stirred a debate about Poland’s role during the Holocaust. The debate is colored by the memory of the rampant anti-Semitism that existed in Poland before World War II, the widespread anti-Semitism that continued in Poland throughout the war, and the continuation of anti-Semitic outbreaks after the war when it was discovered that not all of Poland’s Jews had been exterminated during the Holocaust.

T. Belman. I am not at all concerned with the possibility that foreign workers won’t leave. In fact I hope they don’t at least until they retire. That’s not to say that I think they should form families here. I don’t. Laws must be passed that require them to leave. We will always need construction workers and they will never become citizens. Israel must have an alternative to Arab workers so that we are not vulnerable to political action they might take. If the Arab workers present as little problems to us as do the foreign workers, they are welcome too.

Israel approved on Sunday boosting the ceiling for foreign workers in the construction industry by 6,000 from the current 16,500. The extra quota is specifically for workers employed by the foreign contractors now permitted to operate in Israel to help ease the housing shortage, while the first 16,500 are free to work wherever they please.
On Sunday, Israel began issuing deportation notices to asylum seekers from Eritrea and Sudan who are not held in the Holot detention facility.
T. Belman. The author seems to think that solving the Arab Israel conflict is central to American plans. I disagree. Not only has the US distanced themselves from the idea that solving the conflict is centeral to ME stability, it has also declared that it won’t force anyone.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: Though the recently released US National Security Strategy (NSS) is not intended to present a concrete and detailed set of American policies for the Middle East, it does reflect the general logic and goals of the Trump administration for the region – and indicates a convergence of US and Israeli views on the Middle East. Its substance and implications warrant close attention in Jerusalem.
The chapter in the new US National Security Strategy (NSS) document on the Middle East is short but powerful. It marks a significant departure from the Obama legacy and is thus of great interest to both America’s partners and its adversaries in the region.
The strategy recognizes that instability and an unfavorable balance of regional power in the Middle East adversely affect US interests. According to the NSS, the region’s instability derives from the interaction between Iranian expansion, violent jihadist terror and ideology, weak states, socioeconomic stagnation, and regional rivalries.

Her opponent––Republican Mr. Donald J. Trump––the billionaire builder who lived in the American version of the Palace of Versailles in Manhattan and in several other resplendent homes around the country and the world, who hosted two wildly successful TV shows, who owned casinos and built golf courses and was a favorite of tabloid magazines, and who had been lionized and courted by the Hollywood crowd, the media whores, and both Democrats and Republicans for his generous contributions, was the clear loser. T. Belman. I normally support any party that sees Islam for what it is and wants to stand up to it. These European parties are usually on the right and usually nationalistic. They are also pro-Israel. Of course, if any of their policies are threatening to Jews, that’s another story. Less so if only some of its members are proven antisemites. I have taken a lot of flack for being so open to them because, don’t you know, we should never support the extreme right because they are nationalistic and antisemetic. Many people including my daughter have taken me to task for this.
I would like to hear from our followers about your views on these parties in general and specifically what you know about whether AfD should be shunned, embraced or approached with caution. Any evidence you can bring to the table in support of their alleged antisemitism or in support of your views, would be appreciated.
I am much more worried about the threat to the West, including Israel, and its culture, represented by Islam including its systemic antisemitism, than I am of the far right antisemitism.

Senior Palestinian official Saeb Erekat on Saturday accused the Trump administration of trying depose the Palestinian leadership in a “coup” and told the “impudent” US envoy to the United Nations Nikki Haley she should “shut up” with her criticism of Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas.
Erekat, who has led the Palestinian peace negotiations and is secretary general of the Palestine Liberation Organization, singled out Haley, who slammed Abbas for a recent speech that was full of anti-Semitic tropes.
Erekat said that Haley’s “impudence” has gone as far as calling for removing Abbas from power. Read more…

Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu’s Likud government would be easily reelected if new elections were held today, a new poll shows, giving Netanyahu his fifth term as premier.
Netanyahu, who was first elected in Israel’s first direct elections in May 1996, was again elected in 2009, 2013, and 2015, giving him three consecutive terms as Prime Minister – four in total. Netanyahu currently holds the record for the longest consecutive term in office, with 8 years and 307 days.
If he remains in office through the end of the current Knesset’s term – set to end in November 2019 – he will break the record as the longest-serving PM in Israel’s history, a title currently held by David Ben-Gurion, with 13 years and 127 days. Read more…
The first round of notices, which gives asylum seekers from Eritrea and Sudan 60 days to leave, will be issued to men without children – about 20,000 people
The Population, Immigration and Border Authority will begin issuing deportation notices on Sunday to asylum seekers from Eritrea and Sudan who are not held in the Holot detention facility.
In the first stage the notices will be issued to men without children who come to renew their residence visa. Citizens of Eritrea and Sudan are required to renew their visas every two months at the authority’s office in Bnei Brak. They will receive their last two-month visa, along with a letter stating that during this period they are expected to leave the country, otherwise they will be forbidden to work and can expect to be incarcerated indefinitely. Authority personnel will suggest that they leave for either Rwanda or their native countries.

Foreign money funnelled towards Canadian political advocacy groups affected the outcome of the 2015 federal election, according to a document filed last week with Elections Canada and obtained in part by the Calgary Herald.
The 36-page report entitled: Elections Canada Complaint Regarding Foreign Influence in the 2015 Canadian Election, alleges third parties worked with each other, which may have bypassed election spending limits — all of which appears to be in contravention of the Canada Elections Act.
The Canada Elections Act states that “a third party shall not circumvent, or attempt to circumvent, a limit set out . . . in any manner, including by splitting itself into two or more third parties for the purpose of circumventing the limit or acting in collusion with another third party so that their combined election advertising expenses exceed the limit.” Read more…

A delegation of senior Russian security officials visiting Israel this weekreportedly sought to dissuade Jerusalem from striking Iranian and Hezbollah weapons facilitates in Syria and Lebanon.
According to the London-based Arabic daily Asharq Al-Awsat, the purpose of Wednesday’s visit headed by Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev was Moscow’s desire to discourage Israeli intervention across the border, Channel 10 news reported.
The Russian delegation, which also included deputy ministers. army generals and intelligence officers, was met by Israel’s National Security Adviser Meir Ben-Shabbat as well as heads of Israel’s National Security Council and top military, defense and intelligence officials.
