The Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet) and the Israel Police announced on Monday the arrest of two reserve soldiers accused of passing classified materials to Iranian agents in exchange for money.
Peloni: This complete rewrite of history to suit the antisemites in Hollywood is simply horrifying to read. Hopefully, the public outrage over this historical revision will defeat the purpose of having done so.
by Rafael Medoff
America’s response to the Holocaust, a subject of much historical scholarship and public discussion in recent decades, increasingly is coming to the stage and screen—with mixed results.
Last year’s George Clooney film, The Boys in the Boat, is an example of how Hollywood sometimes sacrifices history on the altar of entertainment. It tells the story of a gritty American rowing team that made it to the Olympics despite various obstacles. There’s nothing Hollywood likes better than a triumphant underdog. But what happens when half the story is omitted in order to prioritize the thrilling narrative?
Peloni: It is good to have walls to hide behind for momentary protection, but such conveniences should be understood to be only temporary in their nature. Like the Seigfried line and the Atlantic Wall before that, and the Maginot line before that, such impenetrable defenses will ultimately be penetrated, no matter how sophisticated or impenetrable they are envisioned to be…and, of course, the catastrophic devastation of failing to appreciate this fact was most recently suffered on October 7. Like a gladiator in ancient Rome, shields have their uses, but an over dependency on such uses will ultimately lead to disaster. Notably, the Iron Dome, David Sling, and Arrow 1&2 provided Israel with the the ability to protect its civilian population while they brought devastation upon its enemies, but this only came after many years of this shield being used as a crutch to avoid bringing the fight to your enemies door.
New Types of Threats Means the End of the MAD Doctrine

On January 21, the Israeli media reported that the country’s Defense Minister Israel Katz paid a visit to the military command post in Samaria overseeing an IDF operation called “Iron Wall” in progress inside the Jenin “refugee camp” (and never mind there is no camp and the people there are not refugees).

Mourning in Jordan. Hashemite tears. And orphans.
The Queen of Jordan is convinced that the black magic, which cost her millions, will protect her. This will not happen.
Peloni: The need for Judicial reform becomes ever more necessary and ever more obvious.
Appointment of new judges requires cooperation between Justice Min. and Supreme Court

Justice Minister Yariv Levin declared he won’t recognize the election of new Supreme Court president Isaac Amit and vowed not to cooperate with him, further endangering the functioning of Israel’s justice system that is already stretched thin.

Peloni: Qatar should have no leverage over American political elites, and the fact that they do presents a certain challenge for the Trump administration as its Mid East Envoy, Witkoff, was seen in the negotition of Israel’s Surrender Deal with Hamas to show reverence of, rather than contempt for, the Qataris, who should have been the target of US rather than Israel.

An alliance with the U.S. — specifically, a Major Non-NATO alliance — was once the most highly coveted relationship a nation could earn, a sacrosanct pact of mutual importance. But one such alliance is now a liability for both the U.S. and its long-time allies.
Qatar, our oil-wealthy “ally” in the Persian Gulf, is funding and harboring terrorists that not only threaten American forces but are attacking long-standing American allies. Worse yet, Doha believes this terrorist/ally balance is protected because the country hosts the largest U.S. military base in the Middle East.
A U.S. base should give America leverage with the country hosting it — it should not give leverage to Iran, in the case of Iraq; and it should not give leverage to Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Houthis in the case of Qatar.

The late Jimmy Carter didn’t come up spontaneously with the idea of giving away the Panama Canal, which America spent blood and gold on and which is an essential part of its national security. Instead, he had Robert A. Pastor, a communist, whispering in his ear.
Peloni: This is an encouraging report by Hassan.
I can see everyone absolutely having a meltdown over their perception of what could be the US’s policy towards Iran and suspected/alleged Qatari influence over Steve Witkoff. Many are focusing on a tiny piece(s) of the whole picture and are jumping to conclusions.
Yesterday in an X Space, I explained that things are hardly what they seem and that Trump’s policy towards Iran will be shaped largely by his relationship with his closest allies in the region, Saudi Arabia and Israel, among other elements, including the situation in the Horn of Africa and repercussions on global trade (link to the recording in the first comment).

News of Israel’s Achievements and Heartwarming Stories from the Jewish State.
In the 26th Jan 25 edition of Israel’s good news, the highlights include:
“Our maniac reaction to every reproach—to accept responsibility as a people for every action of a Jew, and to make excuses in front of everybody including hell knows who. We demand the right to have our own villains, exactly as other people have them.” — Ze’ev Jabotinsky, 1911.

To Herzi Halevi’s generation, a Palestinian state is an article of faith. These Jews, indeed, do have a Devil. To their parents’ generation, that Devil was Prime Minister Menachem Begin; to theirs, it is Bibi. If they are still around after Netanyahu is gone, then the next leader who stands between them and submission to the Arabs will be the next Devil. They have already identified him, Itamar Ben-Gvir, and are trying to head him off at the pass. But all this is still only at the level of religion/ideology. Beneath that level is where the real fight takes place: between the ruling elite, mostly Ashkenazi, on the one hand, and the closest thing to citizens-in-arms, the IDF ground forces and their reserves, mostly Sephardi and Mizrahi, and mostly residents of Judea and Samaria, on the other. Peloni: It is both unfair, but also unwise, to make such a comparison between Ukraine and Israel. The war in Ukraine should be ended, and it should have never begun, as a negotiated arrangement was always possible, and negotiations were in fact arranged a decade ago, even as the relevant parties in Ukraine and the West admit having betrayed the purpose of those negotiations, which ultimately led to war. Meanwhile, the war in Gaza should have been ended a decade ago when Hamas launched its attack upon Israel in 2015, or even a decade before that when Gaza became the terror enclave of Hamastan. as Schwaeber-Issan states, the border disputes in Ukraine are not what lies behind the onslaught of October 7, and if this war is not ended in Gaza, it will venture to foreign lands such as are taking root in Europe and America today. Critical reasoning should be capable of discerning these facts.

Perhaps, even more than sealing the southern border and solving the inflation problem, U.S. President Donald Trump longs to preside over a war-free administration, where no conflicts are threatening to pull America into the fray.

Recently, Elon Musk has been at the eye of a storm of accusations of antisemitism, making a gesture that was/may be the same as/similar to the Nazi-like “heil Hitler” salute.
Musk, the world’s richest person, owner of Tesla, SpaceX, PayPal, Twitter/X, and recently appointed Administrator of the US Department of Government Efficiency, made the gesture as a warmup act preceding President Trump’s public signing of numerous executive orders immediately following his inauguration. Musk’s making waves and headlines surrounded in controversy is not unprecedented, but rather than extinguishing the flames, he poured fuel on the fire.

The veteran journalist Ira Stoll has many times in the past held up for critical inspection the New York Times’ coverage of Israel and the Middle East which, he demonstrates, “is becoming increasingly unmoored from reality.” More from his latest philippic can be found here: “New York Times ‘Ceasefire’ Coverage Laments That Israel Will Exist,” by Ira Stoll, Algemeiner, January 23, 2025:
