Peloni: In addition to what Avi Abelow explains below, if the Israeli security and IDF were working under legitimate and effective rules of engagment, the rifle which was basically handed over to the terrorist would have been discharged as a threat, and would have actually prevented the terror attack from taking place. Hence, proper management of the security of the Israelis would have not only saved the lives of the two Israeli, but it would have literally stopped this tragedy from taking place at all, so rather than the two Israelis and four terrorists being dead, not to mention the unknown number of injured, the Israelis would have simply moved on with their hike thru the countryside, and the Arab terrorists would have gone home without achieving their goals of emphasizing the lack of security under which the Israeli settlers are living. Notably, as I have made clear previously, the reason that these terrorists assaulted the Israelis was to gain access to a firearm with which to murder Jews. The policies and rules of engagement which exist today armed these terrorists with the foreknowledge that such a feat was possible, and this tragedy is just one of several such recent events in which a terrorist attacked an Israeli and seized his weapon. Proper security protocols would close this loophole in which terrorists seek out armed Israelis as a source from which to arm themselves, enabling them to thereby slaughter Jews.

Before Shabbat, a group of Israeli Jews who regularly hike around Judea & Samaria, families, kids, hikers of all ages, were attacked while hiking near Havat Gilad by a group of Arab jihadis from the neighboring village of Tell. The civilian in charge of security at Chavat Gilad heard about the incident and ran down to protect the Jewish hikers, trying desperately not to shoot. Instead used his rifle as a club to push the attackers back. The Muslim sheikh from the village grabbed the gun and shot, within seconds he murdered two Jews.
