On May 21, 2026, the 36th Civil Chamber of the Ankara Regional Court of Appeals ruled that the 38th Ordinary Congress, held November 4-5, 2023, and 21st Extraordinary Congress, held September 21, 2025, of Turkey’s leading opposition party, the Cumhuriyet Halk Partisi (CHP), were “absolutely null and void” due to corruption, it said, in the proceedings.[1] This ruling created a legislative and judicial crisis in the CHP that is ongoing.
