The Heroes of October 7

There is a remarkable story up at the Times of Israel today about Oz Davidian, an Israeli farmer who saved 120 people at the Nova music festival that was the site of a Hamas massacre on Oct. 7. When I first opened the article, I thought it was going to be about Youssef Ziadna, a Bedouin minibus driver I read about a couple weeks ago who saved 30 from that festival by responding to a call to pick up a customer from the event. Ziadna drove into Hamas’s attack and drove out with a minibus full of Jewish Israelis who are alive because of him.

Hamas gravely miscalculated how Israel would react

The terrorist group that rules the Gaza Strip never anticipated that Israel would launch an all-out undertaking to destroy it.

While the IDF is engaged in Gaza, in what is becoming a protracted war, aiming to weaken Hamas and secure the release of captives, the main effort by Hamas and its backers has been focused on reaching as prolonged a ceasefire as possible.

Such a ceasefire has operational and tactical importance for Hamas. However, its main significance lies in the strategic arena. Hamas hopes a ceasefire will compel Israel to change its war objectives and revert to the softer approach that the Islamist group initially believed Israel would follow right after the Oct. 7 massacre.

Slightly more than three in four Palestinians have a positive view of Hamas in the wake of its Oct. 7 terrorist attacks in Israel, according to a survey by the Arab World for Research and Development (AWRAD) research firm.

The Ramallah-based institute polled 668 Palestinian adults in the southern Gaza Strip, Judea and Samaria between Oct. 31 and Nov. 7. (The margin of error is plus or minus 4 percentage points, AWRAD said.)

The ‘Occupation’ Lie, an excuse for massacring Jews

It is essential to Israel’s existence that she debunk the Occupation Lie: Declare San Remo Day, Yom San Remo. Op-ed.

By Diane Bederman, INN     Nov 17, 2023, 1:01 PM (GMT+2)

On October 7, 2023, we witnessed the worst attack on Jews since the Holocaust. We got a glimpse of what a Muslim ‘return’ looks like and what it means for our children. These horrific attacks will continue to e touted as a result of the “Occupation Lie”, although the real reason is simple Jew-hatred.

Now is the time for Israel to declare Yom San Remo and finally debunk the “Occupation” Lie.

The Return of the ‘Useful Idiot’

by Gary Saul Morson and Morton Schapiro, COMMENTARY

The Hamas charter calls for killing all Jews (not just Israelis), so how could it be that there are Jewish groups, such as If Not Now and  Jewish Voice for Peace, who carry water for Hamas? Hamas and other Islamist groups punish gays with death, so why are there LGBTQ+ groups that are pro-Hamas? Given the way that Iran and Islamists treat women, why do some feminists back them?

‘Globalized intifada’: Shootings, a firebombing and vandalism rock Montreal

This is in fact the actualization of a globalized intifada through violence,” said the president of Federation CJA of the sharp spike in antisemitism since Oct. 7.

Shootings, a firebombing and vandalism have struck the Jewish community in Montreal amid the ongoing war between Israel and the Hamas terror organization.

“Between Oct. 7 and Nov. 7, the police reported 79 hate crimes in Montreal against the Jews. In the entire year before, the number was under 40,” Yair Szlak, president and chief executive officer of Federation CJA, the central philanthropic, planning and coordinating body of services for the local Jewish community, told JNS.

ECI calls for comprehensive re-education program in Gaza

European Coalition for Israel Press Release

Brussels, November 17th, 2023 – “The largest pogrom after the Shoah did not happen in a vacuum. It was the culmination of more than thirty years of incitement to violence and a systematic indoctrination of young Palestinians to hate Jews,” said ECI Founding Director Tomas Sandell in the European Report which was recorded in the European Parliament in Brussels on Wednesday.

How dangerous are the anti-Israel conservatives?

Unlike most Republicans and their voters, Tucker Carlson, Candace Owens and friends are defending antisemites in the wake of Oct. 7. Do they have Trump’s ear?

By Jonothan S.Tobin   (November 16, 2023 / JNS)

On the main stage of American politics, the lines of debate about Israel and the Hamas atrocities of Oct. 7 have been clear. Almost all Republicans and most Democratic officeholders support the Jewish state in its necessary war of self-defense against Islamist terrorists who seek its destruction and the genocide of the Jewish people. Much of the Democrats’ left-wing base disagrees with progressives being the loudest voices raised against Israel. They also have supplied the ideological foundation and the activist passion behind the surge in antisemitism that has been on display on the streets of America’s cities and college campuses in the past six weeks.

Israel’s strategic imperative

We need to think about what the Oct. 7 attack represents within the Iranian blueprint for the annihilation of the Jewish state.Op-ed.

(JNS) As of now, it appears that owing either to U.S. insistence or the Israel Defense Forces’ operational preferences, Israel is leaning towards keeping the issue of Hezbollah-controlled Lebanon on the back burner in the hopes of not having to engage Iran’s most powerful proxy force directly. The argument presented on behalf of this approach is that by defeating Hamas completely and reducing Gaza to rubble, Israel will deter Hezbollah from attacking it for the foreseeable future.

When Has War Even Been ‘Proportional?’

Israel’s conventional disproportionality is proving more effective than the terrorist disproportionality of Hamas

By

Proportionality in war is a synonym for lethal stalemate, if not defeat.

When two sides go at it with roughly equal forces, weapons, and strategies, the result is often a horrific deadlock—like the four years of toxic trench warfare on the Western Front of World War I that resulted in 12 million fatalities.

Revealed: The Munitions U.S. Supplied Israel for Gaza War

Internal Pentagon document details munitions request made by ‘senior Israeli leader’ ? Congressional Democrats grow increasingly wary of Biden administration’s lack of transparency

By Oded Yaron, Ben Samuels, HAARETZ  Nov 16, 2023 12:05 am IST

Tens of thousands of 155mm artillery shells, thousands of bunker-buster munitions and 200 kamikaze drones – these are just some weapons and ammunition Israel has asked the U.S. for since the beginning of the war in Gaza.

An internal Pentagon document revealed by Bloomberg on Wednesday details the requests made by “a senior Israeli leader” in late October. The list also includes 2,000 Hellfire laser-guided missiles for Apache gunships and 36,000 rounds of 30mm ammunition for its cannon.

Israel’s Apache helicopters have been operating constantly since the early hours of October 7, closely assisting ground forces in the Gaza Strip and on the Lebanon border.
