Peloni:  A year too late and an impeachment too short… Quite typical of the Congressional Republicans.  If the Republicans ever accomplished anything useful, it would certainly be a momentous event.  Two years after taking the House, they have finally resolved that Biden has committed impeachable offenses as detailed in their “long-awaited report”, just one months after he announced the end of his political career.  No doubt the Republicans will hold fundraisers to celebrate their empty handed gesture of success, even as it will lead to no substantive changes or consequences in the halls of power in the US.  One hand washes the other, just as it also watches out for the other.

Never to be accused of doing anything timely for the American people, the republicans on the House Oversight, Judiciary and Ways and Means committees just released a 291-page report today [full pdf here], highlighting the evidence of Joe Biden’s corruption in office.

The Republicans couldn’t wait to send money to Ukraine. The same Republicans rushed a FISA reauthorization bill. The Republicans also fast-tracked a Green New Deal bill under the guise of an Inflation Reduction Act, and they delivered a fake border security bill. However, it took them three years to outline Biden’s pay-to-play schemes. Go figure.

The latest information seeping out from the negotiations for an end to the war in Gaza suggest that agreement between the sides remains out of reach. According to a report by Axios today, Hamas yesterday rejected an updated US proposal, claiming that the new formula aligned with attempts by Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu to raise ‘new conditions and demands with the aim of undermining the mediators’ efforts and prolonging the war’.

Israel has been in crisis mode for two weeks, waiting for a promised attack from Iran. At the same time, the Biden-Harris administration is trying to force Israel to accept a cease-fire agreement with Hamas. How are these things related?

The US administration is heavily invested in stopping the Gaza war and preventing Israel from obtaining full security control over Gaza both for domestic political reasons, and in order to advance its long-term goal of unifying the Palestinian territories under the control of single authority that can be a candidate for statehood.

The US has no leverage over Hamas, so the approach is to apply pressure to Israel, its client state, and to Iran, which is concerned that the US does not interfere with its progress toward nuclear weapons, which is currently at an advanced stage.

Peloni:  In fact, the policy of de-escalation is nothing more than the continuation of the Status Quo, and this preserves and escalates, rather than eliminates, the existential threats which lay on Israel’s borders, all of them.  This would be more than a defeat, as it would be a surrender to the permanence of the menacing forces which lay in the North, the South and in J&S.  What is more is that the Sunni nations, who would be pressured towards peace by an Israeli victory, would be pressured towards a very different path by Israeli capitulation to maintaining the Status Quo which oversaw the slaughter of October 7 and the resulting retreat of Israelis from their own borders.  The continuation of the Status Quo is incompatible with Israeli permanence in the region and simply perpetuates and exacerbates the difficulties which Israel will face in the future.

Iran’s war on Israel and America will continue until the mullahs’ regime is removed.

The most prevalent rumor regarding a possible Iranian attack on Israel was that Iran would strike over Tisha B’Av, Judaism’s somber commemoration of the loss of the Jewish Temples in Jerusalem in 586 BCE and 70 C.E. (makes you wonder who the “colonizers” are, doesn’t it?), as well as other difficult moments in Jewish history.

A lot of people opined that the mullahs’ government would see the irony of adding to Jewish mourning, but there is also irony in the fact that Tehran considers the Jewish link to Jerusalem to be of interest.
