Yitzhak Goldknopf, leader of the United Torah Judaism Party (UTJ), said that “if the new recruitment plan isn’t settled, the government will fall apart,” speaking of a haredi conscription law the ultra-Orthodox parties are insisting upon.

Speaking to Mishpacha, a haredi magazine, which ran the quote as a headline, the ultra-Orthodox political leader, who is also Israel’s minister of construction and housing, said: “The Prime Minister received an unequivocal message from me according to which there is an order from the Council of Torah Sages that if the conscription law is not passed before the budget [which is due by May 29], we will withdraw from the government. As long as there is no other [council] directive, this is what will be done.”

On October 3, 1980, a bomb went off just outside a synagogue on the rue Copernic in Paris. Several people were killed: a student on a motorbike, an Israeli journalist, a driver, and a caretaker. In addition, 46 people were wounded, many of them seriously. Eventually, over many years, the French authorities, with help from German intelligence as well as Israeli and French agents, tracked down the PFLP operative who left the bomb, a Lebanese sociologist named Hassan Diab. By that time, Diab was living in Canada. With the evidence it had gathered, France asked Canada to extradite Diab in 2008 so he could stand trial.

The other day, an Arab terrorist died after a hunger strike. The Woke Left are in a tizzy, accusing Israel of war crimes. Arab terror groups are talking about bringing a claim to the International Criminal Court. A barrage of rockets were launched from Gaza prompting an Israeli response.

Think about it. Voices in the Israeli government are apologizing: “We tried so hard to feed him, but he refused to eat. We tried. We begged. He just wouldn’t touch our food. It’s not our fault.”

The ruling Likud party on Wednesday slammed National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir for his far-right party’s decision to boycott Knesset votes, telling him if he did not like the way Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu runs the government he could leave.

Firing back, Ben Gvir said Otzma Yehudit would continue to refrain from voting with the coalition until Netanyahu adopted more hardline policies, and fumed over his exclusion from security deliberations on Tuesday’s fighting between Israel and Gaza-based terror groups.

There are many reasons for effecting judicial reform in Israel, not the least of them the way Supreme Court judges are chosen and the absolute power held by the unelected legal advisor to the Prime Minister (who also functions as the attorney general) and the legal advisors to the government ministries. Add the absence of a demand for standing, the fact that everything, including religious, military and economic decisions can be (and are) adjudicated in the courts, the fact that a justice’s opinion of the “reasonableness” of an issue allows him to strike it down and that all of the above are particular to Israel.
