After the leak of Justice’s Alito opinion on the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization case, there has been an organized campaign to attack the Supreme court’s legitimacy, which really began years ago. The Wall Street Journal writes:

But as the court has grown more conservative in recent years, the left has stepped up the attacks on the court’s “legitimacy,” including character assassination of individual justices, with little objection from mainstream Democrats and plenty of help from the media.

Justice Alito says “this type of concerted attack on the court and on individual justices” is “new during my lifetime. . . . We are being hammered daily, and I think quite unfairly in a lot of instances. And nobody, practically nobody, is defending us.

A San Francisco-based bank collapsed on Monday and was seized by the federal government and quickly sold to JPMorgan Chase following for billions of dollars in what was the second-largest bank failure in U.S. history. First Republic Bank operated 84 locations in eight states but did not have the capital to hand to handle withdrawals during a bank run that commenced following the collapse of two other mid-size banks in March, the Associated Press reported.

Three judges of the High Court of Justice on 24 May 2018 unanimously rejected a final appeal by the 200 residents of Khan al-Ahmar to demolish the illegal settlement and evacuate its residents – finding the Government had that right “under the letter of the law”.

An Israeli military court extended on Sunday the detention of a Jordanian lawmaker who was arrested by Israel for allegedly smuggling large quantities of weapons in the West.

Last Sunday, Jordan’s Foreign Affairs Ministry alleged that Jordanian lawmaker Imad al-Adwan was arrested for smuggling a large quantity of weapons into the West Bank. The court extended the detention by eight days.

Mercouris had an interview with former US Diplomat, Chas Freeman, mostly on the Ukraine war and Russia and China on which Freeman offers a very informative conversation.  He was the Ambassador to Saudi Arabia during the early 90’s, and was involved in the US Foreign Service for about 30yrs til the mid 90’s.  I recalled Freeman from the notoriety around his appointment to the National Intelligence Council during Obama’s first term, a nomination for which he failed to be confirmed before withdrawing due to the marked controversy which was raised during the election season.  He blamed the Likud and their American allies for having scuttled his nomination, but the truth is that it was his own pronounced pro-Saudi and his anti-Israel positions which led to the opposition to his nomination.  In any event, there is not a great deal of discussion in the interview on the Middle East outside of the Saudi’s relations with China and Russia,  and notably only a single swipe at Israel.  I have to admit that I nearly did not watch the interview due to my recollections of and dislike for Freeman, but I am quite pleased that I did.  Here is the link:

Two of the worst-performing US tech stocks this week – Cisco and Tesla – have something in common: Both ran into a buzz-saw of Chinese competition. At the New York opening April 21, Telsa had lost more than 12% during the week and Cisco more than 8.1%.

Tesla’s Chinese competitor BYD announced an $11,400 electrical vehicle, a challenge to Tesla’s lowest-cost offering at about $33,000.
