WASHINGTON – Americans For A Safe Israel, a pro-Israel advocacy group, is calling on the U.S. Congress to block future sales of advanced U.S. weapons systems to Middle Eastern authoritarian regimes. The demand follows the Israeli Air Force’s June 16 destruction of two Iranian F-14 fighter jets that were sold to Iran under the Shah’s regime decades ago.
A statement from the IDF confirmed that a drone strike destroyed two Iranian F-14s on the ground “minutes before takeoff,” signaling Israel’s pursuit of air superiority over Iran. Iranian air defenses reportedly shot down an Israeli drone in Isfahan on June 18, demonstrating the continued escalation.
Business Insider noted Iran maintains its remaining F?14 fleet through improvised repairs and blackmarket parts, emphasizing their strategic and symbolic value.
AFSI’s Phillips warns that supplying F-35s to authoritarian rulers could backfire if those regimes fall. “America’s most sophisticated fighter jets should not be given to authoritarian rulers,” he stated.
“Putting F-35s in the hands of Arab dictators is extremely risky. America’s most sophisticated fighter jets should not be given to authoritarian rulers. Undemocratic regimes are inherently unstable, and that is especially true in the Middle East. What will happen if the dictatorial rulers of nations such as the UAE and Bahrain, countries that regularly seek U.S.-made weapons, are replaced by forces hostile to America and Israel? Will the new rulers return those F-35s to the United States? Somehow, I doubt it.”
The group emphasized that weapons sales must prioritize long term stability. ICS policymakers are urged to consider future regime changes when approving arms exports.

Putting the West’s high technology into the hands of unreliable dictators, particularly those who support religious dogmas, is bad enough, but if you do, the underlying “secret” technology is as good as gone. You may as well just ask China how much they would be willing to pay for it.
