Netanyahu did attempt to dismantle the Deep State, ably assisted by Justice minister Levin. But the supporters of the rule of the Supreme Court, and ultimately the Bar Association which appoints the Supreme Court, all judges and all government lawyers from its own ranks, staged a Jewish intifada–months of violent rioting in an effort to defeat Levin’s and Netanyau’s efforts to restore authority to the Knesset and the Israeli cabinet, which is responsible to the Knesset, not the Supreme Court. There were months of violent rioting by the supporters of the lawyerocracy as well as threats by members of key military units, such as air force pilots, to refuse to fight for Israel unless the judicial reform proposals of Levin, Netanyahu and the Liud were dropped. Eventually Netanyahu and Levin did reluctantly drop them. However, in the midst of the Jewish intifada, Hamas struck and massacred hundreds of Israelis and took many more hostage
In my opinion, the real reason the The Israeli military commanders and the heads of the and intelligence and counterintelligenc agencies failed to heed the warnings of an immanent Hamas attack is that, like everyone else in Israel, they were totally absorbed in the Jewish intifada.
