  1. What makes people hate Israel is a “teaching of hostility to Jews by the Christian churches for nearly two thousand years, and by the Muslim religious authorities for 1400 years. The Christian authorities never forgave the Jews for failing to convert to Christianity and the Muslims never forgave them for not converting to Islam. Both the Christian and Muslim scriptures contain negative comments about Jews. These comments are even more abundant in the writings of the post-New-Testament ‘church fathers,” and in the writngs of Muslim religious authorities in the centuries since the prophet’s death, such as the “hadith” meaning “traditions” concerning Muhammed’s remarks in private.. These revered writings, although not quite as holy as the Quran, nevertheless do have great authority in the eyes of most Muslims.

Because these writings, and the frequent sermons in Churches and mosques that were inspired by the,had a deep influence on the thinking and attitudes of both Christians and Muslims. They world press and the internet have even spead these prejudicial attitudes to countries, such as China, Japan and Korea, where most people are neither Christians nor Muslims. While this hatred for the Jewish people was originally spread by reliigious leaders and their textbooks, it eventually became a part of the culture of Christian, Muslim and other countries, part of these countries cultural DNA so that even people who are non-religious are influenced by these deeply engrained prejudices. Shakespeare wrote that “thevil that men do lives after them, but the good is oft interred within their bones” Words to that effect. I am not sure that I remember the quotation word for word.
