“Betrayal of the Jews”- the video

by Steve Kramer

I highly recommend the following concise (38 minutes) video history of the Jews’ late 19th and 20th century effort to obtain statehood in their homeland in what was then called, “Palestine”.

The betrayal mentioned in the video’s title alludes to the breaking of stipulations that the authors of the British Mandate for Palestine (1922) promised to the Jewish people. It describes the legal parameters that were broken or fudged over between 1922 and 1947, when the Partition Plan for Palestine was finally approved by the United Nations. (The Yishuv – pre-state Israel – accepted the plan for a Jewish and an Arab state and the Arab nations rejected it, renouncing even the idea of a Jewish state.) The link:

However, despite the determined efforts of the British to roll back their promise to the Jews for their Jewish State, in 1948 the Israelis, under the leadership of Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion, declared the State of Israel and defeated the six Arab armies which invaded the Jewish communities. Finally, 51 years after Theodor Herzl’s prescient prediction that in 50 years a Jewish state would be refounded, that “wild” prediction was fulfilled. SEE NOTE

This brings us to the fact that so-called legal documents regarding nation-building are not worth the paper they are printed on. What counts is the strength and determination of the people to bring about a state of their own. The Jews had those qualities and the grit to go forward with enough fortitude to win independence.

In summary, the video Betrayal of the Jews highlights the historic reluctance of the international community to recognize a Jewish homeland since the early 20th century. It explains how the British Mandate, partition plans, and Arab states’ rejections contributed to the Jewish state’s challenges. The video emphasizes the Arab refusal to accept a Jewish state and the ongoing anti-Jewish stance in the region, while also noting efforts to undermine Israel’s legitimacy and survival.

With the above in mind, I remind my readers that Israel is not about to depend on the Western powers to protect its sovereignty. Israel reserves the right to use diplomacy and force to maintain its status as a Western democracy in a sea of Muslim monarchies and dictatorships. Especially in the Middle East, documents and even treaties are rarely “worth the paper they are printed on”. What is clear and convincing is Israelis’ determination, strength, perseverance and passion for their independence living in the homeland of the Jewish people.
