Channel 18 founder Sam Schubert visits a Jewish outpost near Kousra and Ash Kodesh in Samaria to examine the tensions surrounding the claims of a Jewish “siege” taking place on an Arab house in the area.
Below are some highlights from these interviews:
- Residents describe ongoing assaults by Arabs agains the Jewish residents including stone throwing, shootings, attempted lynchings, and other attacks from surrounding Arab villages.
- The village of Kousra is described as a major source of attacks against nearby Jewish communities, including shooting and other incidents.
- The speakers describe the Palestinian Authority deliberately attempting to take control of surrounding hills by funding people to establish a presence and create territorial continuity.
- Residents say they came to settle the land because of their commitment to Torah and the Land of Israel, describing settlement as their religious and national mission.
- One resident recounts being attacked by four or more Arabs, having been beaten and sprayed with pepper spray, saying that he escaped only because others arrived and enabled him to escape.
- A house near the Jewish community is described as having being built by an American citizen and has been largely unoccupied. Jewish residents explain that “as far as we know basically the only people who have ever been living there are outside agitators and terrorists who came into throw rocks shoot and put IEDs around the area.”
- About two weeks ago, a tent and couches near the house were set up so as to be able to monitor it and thereby prevent further attacks while the Jewish residents went about their daily affairs.
- Unprovoked Arab attacks ensued against this position, but this failed to dislodge the Jewish onlookers.
- As explained by Sadia, a local Jewish activist, was that the Arabs decided to adopt a strategy of playing the victim, bringing in ambulances manned by non-medics, presumably for photo ops to feed the media storm over the past several days.
- The claim that the Palestinians in the house are under siege, saying they have electricity, water, supplies and the ability to leave. He characterizes the siege story as false and driven by outside activists and media attention.
- Shubert adds that he unsuccessfully attempted to interview the Arabs in the area.
- The Jewish residents criticize the army for destroying their farm and for insufficient taking place action against Palestinian attacks. They express the hope that the govt will eventually support Jewish settlement on the hills.
- In conversation with the Jewish residents it is noted that the Oslo Accords have resulted in thousands of Israeli deaths and injuries while there has been inadequate Israeli enforcement of violations of those agreements and they explicitly call for the the Oslo Accords to finally be abandoned, and for Israel to take greater control over the territory.
- The residents envision a permanent Jewish settlement with families, electricity, water and proper roads, and ultimately the restoration of Jewish settlement throughout the Land of Israel.
- It is further noted that Israel should support Jewish communities in the area rather than allowing them to be displaced, and calls for the PA to be treated as a terrorist organization and for Israel to take ownership of the land.
